Work Text:
It was dark and murky. The only light came from the cracks in the basement door that was a flight of stairs away. It smelled of blood and grime.
Dazai-no, The boss-had called him to his office and told him to wait for him in the basement. He knew what that meant. He was being punished.
What did he do?
He didn't remember any mess-ups on missions.
Did he forget to file a report?
A heavy scrape pulled him out of his thoughts.
Light spilled into the room and there he was.
Dazai. The boy he fell in love with in his teens.
But this wasn't Dazai.
The person he knew was not the man he now called his boss.
Chuuya used to think that what Dazai was doing to him was wrong and horrible but now he knows that Dazai does it out of love. He does it because he loves Chuuya. Dazai said so himself, so why would he not believe him?
Dazai closed the heavy metal door behind him with a loud thud and began to step down the stairs.
Each of his steps made a painful and dreadful fear crawl up his guts, it was so bad he wanted to vomit.
But… if he threw up… the boss wouldn't like it.
“Chuuya.”
His head flew up automatically. He did not speak until he was told to.
“Do you know why you are down here? Go on, you may speak.”
“No, boss. I don't know why I am down here.”
Dazai stood in front of Chuuya, looming over his sitting form.
SMACK.
Chuuya's head whipped to the side as a hot, stinging pain bloomed on his cheek where Dazai hit him.
“Really? You don't know why you are down here? Well I was expecting more from my executive but I remember that he literally forgot to sign a report.”
He sighed as if Chuuya was an inconvenience.
“I don't know how someone so stupid got into the mafia, but it would make sense cause the only thing you're good for is your strength.”
The silence suffocated him. Oh how he hated the silence.
“I'm sorry, boss. I swear I will remember to sign the report next time.” His voice was drenched in fear.
“Oh, Chuuya. You know I love you right? I only do this because I love you. I didn't want to do it but you made me.”
Dazai's hand cupped Chuuya's cheek softly as if nothing ever happened. He couldn't help but desperately lean into the warmth emitting from the rough palm.
A sigh escaped Dazai's mouth as he sat down on the grimy basement floor and pulled Chuuya into his lap.
Chuuya immediately tensed before Dazai started tenderly stroking his hair and coaxing him to rest his head on his shoulder.
And the moment that he put his head down he started sobbing.
Chuuya was always an ugly crier. This time certainly didn't help. With tears running down his face and into the coat, he looked like the scared little boy that lost his friends at 16.
“What did I do!? I was being good! I'm sorry, please don't leave me!” He sounded so heartbroken.
“Oh baby… dry your tears. There is no need to cry.” Dazai simply just tightened his arm around Chuuya's waist and shushed him to sleep.
And when Chuuya woke up, he would not be surprised when he woke up all alone and freezing in the mafia basement with the door locked, after all, it wasn't his first time spending a few days down here.
