   Summary

   The original plan had just been for Ilya to join the Ottawa Centaurs in the fall of 2018, but plans change and now both Shane and Ilya find themselves navigating their new shared life in Ottawa.

   While distance and unsupportive teams are now in their past, Shane works to grapple with the repercussions of building a new team from scratch for the second time in his career while Ilya struggles with the reality of having a relationship in the closet with a whole hockey team closely watching.

   Through their first year in Ottawa they navigate nosy but well meaning teammates, learn how to care for one another’s mental health while they are under extreme pressure, and finally decided to come out. On their own terms.

   This fic is an alternate universe version of The Long Game. Though this is a sequel to A Year In Montreal, this fic is intentionally written so that it can be read as a stand alone.
