Laughter echoed through the home, warmth spreading. Two girls making pancakes as the sun rose through the window. The soft smells of caramel and syrup mixing into sweet satisfaction.
Suddenly, A loud thud split the air. Adora spun, slightly panicked. “Chiiiiill” Catra said, licking batter off her own hands, “I just dropped the bowl, You really need to calm down, Blondie” “Oh we’re reverting to nicknames? Makes sense you dropped the bowl then, Kluzty Claws” “Hey!’ Catra grabbed a handful of flour and chucked it at the girl.
The sweet giggles returned, Adora left her own food station of ‘berry-mash’, and joined catra at the pancakes. “Remind me, how many times have you made pancakes?” Adora teased, Wrapping her arms around Catra’s waist. “More times than you have! Stop hovering, I gots this” She spun and gave a small peck to Adora’s nose.
The blonde raised her hands, jokingly defensive, “Whatever you say, kitchen queen” “Oh are you mocking me Adora” These two were practically incapable of being serious with each other, “Maybe I am, Whatcha gonna do about it?” She made her way back to the fruits and berries. “After I finish these hellish, devil crafted, flat cakes, im gonna bite you!” “And you’re sure you don’t need help with those?” Catra gave an aggressive nod and proceeded to fight a box of pancake batter.
Adora took a quick glance around the kitchen, “Good lord, Its a MESS in here!” “Eh so are we, So what? This can be cleaned” Catra always seemed a little too ‘It’s fine’, But thats part of what Adora liked. Being with Catra felt so freeing, Like she could be her true, honest self. She also just loved every part of Catra. The way her tail flutters when she’s happy, how her head tilts when shes frustrated, the small accent she puts on random words, All of her was just… Perfect.
How she wished to stay here forever. Unfortunately for Adora, that wasn’t how life worked.
She shot herself upright, Cold air of the night filling her lungs. What woke her up? She glanced around the room and realized that Glimmer was missing from her sleeping bag. She must’ve gotten up and it woke Adora.
She laid back down, And her mind was flooded with thoughts. Mainly sad ones, focusing on how Catra chose to stay with the Horde after everything. She saved Catra, they loved each other for fucks sake, And she stayed with them. She was more mad at herself in all honesty. Why could she let her go? Just like that? Adora decided that regretting things was the worst thing she could do, So she stood and put on some clothes to go on a walk. Glimmer came back in, “Adora? Where are you off to?”
“Just gonna walk, try to clear my mind, Y’know?” Glimmer gave a hum of acceptance and went back to bed as Adora walked out. She made her way through the castle and eventually off castle grounds. She walked for hours, Until the sun was rising up on the horizon. A warm purple tone filled the sky, And she took a seat on a log. She had found herself somewhere in the whispering woods. She watched the birds fly and heard them chirp and sing. She also heard quiet footsteps among the trees. She stood to her feet, alert as ever, before a voice cut the tension, “Calm down, its me”
It was Catra. “Catra? What are you doing out here?” “I was walking, and then saw the most beautiful girl in the woods” Adora sighed, “Why are you so cheesy” They sat by each other, and everything fell quiet. They slipped into that comfortable silence, only shared between the closest of people. “Did you wanna talk about …. Well everything?” Catra practically whispered. “Come back to Brightmoon with me, Claws, Please” “Adora-” “I know, You don’t like them but, I like you, You like me, Please just consider it”
They sat in silence for a bit, Before Adora spoke up again, “As a pretty kitty once said, Please just stay?” “Okay don’t get all sappy on me. Ill do it on one condition” Adora’s response was immediate, “What condition?” “Chill. Its just that if I go to Brightmoon, We HAVE to cuddle? Got it?” Adora gave a nod, and hugged Catra tight, resulting in her practically melting into Adora. The girls shared a small laugh as they made their way back to the castle. The golden light from the sunrise truly made the two girls shine.
“I love you, Catra”, Catra giggled “Love you too, dork”
