flower crown therapy

Summary:

For today's therapy session, Puffy takes Tommy flower picking.

Day 10: Hope

Work Text:

"We'll be going flower picking today!" Was what Puffy had told him as he arrived for his weekly therapy session. Tommy was a little caught off guard, sure, but he would never pass up a chance to do anything but talk about his feelings. Just because he willingly asked for Puffy to help him doesn't mean it's easy to spill his guts and feelings to her. Not yet, at least.

So she took them out to a flower forest and now they were picking whatever flowers they found. Puffy explained that they'd gather a whole bunch and then make flower crowns together. Tommy was actually quite enjoying himself. He loved making flower crowns, it was kind of like knitting but with nature. Shortly after he had arrived at the forest and started picking flowers, he pulled out his green bandana and tied it on top of his head, keeping his hair out of his face. It was just long enough to get in the way but he didn't feel like cutting it yet.

After picking flowers for twenty minutes, they had a big pile and had taken to sitting down on the grass to start making crowns.

It was nice. It wasn't too hot outside today which made it a beautiful day, sitting in silence as they weaved the flowers together. And then Puffy broke the comfortable silence.

"So, how have you been doing since our last session, Tommy?" She asks in a casual tone, never taking her eyes off of the crown she's working on in her hand.

Tommy shrugs, moving onto the next crown. "Yeah, things have been alright. Nothing really new."

Puffy hums with a nod. "Anything fun or exciting happen? Even something small?"

Tommy thinks for a moment before he perks up a bit. "Oh! It was Michael's birthday a few days ago! I helped Tubbo and Tommy put together a little party for him. So that was nice."

Puffy looks up and smiles. "Aw, that's amazing! I didn't even realize! In that case, I'll send you home with one of the crowns I make as a late gift."

Tommy nods with a smile. "Okay. He would like that."

The silence settles over them once again as they continue working. The sound of birds chirping fill the air, mixed with the faint buzzing coming from the bees in the forest, and the distant call of an animal. Tommy thinks he could stay out here all day, but he didn't have a question.

"So, why did you want to do this today?" Tommy asks, tilting his head curiously.

Puffy looks up at him with a gentle smile. "Getting outside and getting exercise is really good for mental health, plus, making flower crowns is fun!" She explains while holding up another one of her crowns.

Tommy chuckles. "Yeah, that's true. But is that really all?"

Puffy shrugs as she goes back to work. "You tell me, Tommy. Has anything been weighing on your mind lately? Or anything?"

There's a moment of silence before Tommy finally speaks.

"Uhm, no, I don't think so."

That gets Puffy's attention, causing her to set her crown aside and look at him, giving him her full attention. "Oh?"

Tommy nods with a small smile. "Yeah. I don't really know how to explain it but things have been... pretty good recently. Maybe not perfect but better than a few months ago," He explains. "And it's kind of nice to just do something normal today."

Puffy's smile grows wider and fonder. "That makes me very happy, Tommy! I hope that means you'll just only get better as time goes on,"

Tommy nods. "Me too."

They finish off all of the crowns they made and head back to the Main SMP, passing them out to anyone they came across.

All in all, it was a really good day in Tommy's books.
