THWACK!
“Wahh!” Kazuha exclaims, exaggerating as much as can be, creating a spectacle out of thin air and falling to one knee, crumpling up. She clutches her belly, doubled over in pretend-pain at the behest of a knight’s toy sword being wielded by her opponent.
Her and her wife’s six-year-old daughter, Huh-Nakamura Hizashi.
“This can’t be!” Kazuha wails. “You got me! How are you so fast? How are you so strong?”
The toddler giggles with delight, a gold plastic crown tilted sideways on her messy head of black hair. Black hair that is, admittedly, in complete and utter disarray from hours upon hours of playtime, and also from the way she’d stuck her head in a bush while trying to find the squirrel that hung out in their backyard every morning. She had secretly picked the bits of peanut out of her chunky peanut butter sandwiches every night for weeks now, and had finally accumulated enough scraps to have a generous offering for the furry creature.
She’s just like Jinnie, Kazuha thought. Hizashi wanted to be friends with everything in the entire world.
Their baby was a carbon copy of Kazuha: jet-black hair with that nose scrunch smile and a pout. And in terms of her eyes… well it goes pretty much without saying. Both Kazuha and Yunjin were notorious for their sparkly, soft eyes; where Yunjin’s were more doe-like and big, Kazuha’s were more puppy-esque and full of curiosity. It was inevitable that their baby would inherit this. Hers are the size of Yunjin’s but possess Kazuha’s gentle baby-wolf stare.
Her personality is where it gets interesting. She’s just like a mini Yunjin. She loves music and flowers, and spends rainy afternoons drawing all sorts of pictures with stories. And she cries so, so easily at Disney movies, and she can’t brush her teeth before bedtime if Kazuha doesn't give her a piggyback ride to the bathroom.
Aside from that, though, she is also extremely athletic. Karate lessons thrice a week, where she is now up to an orange belt. She can run around outside for hours and not even feel it—though, Kazuha supposes this is true for like 99% of kids—and she loved to do kids yoga adventure videos on their big TV, every single day, promptly after lunch. Her favorite was the space-themed one.
The yoga does wonders in strengthening her already-relentless little kid stamina, which is precisely how and why she has just defeated Kazuha in their sword fight.
“A-ha! I win!” The little girl boasts, holding her sword up high in complete victory. Her Disney princess dress swims loosely around her shoulders and legs, still a size too big even after Yunjin had hemmed it and pinned it back, because Hizashi had been born premature and was tiny for her age, but with twice the energy and smiles.
It had been a hard pregnancy for Yunjin. Kazuha’s heart pinches every time she remembers, and she holds her wife a little tighter and closer that night when they sleep.
Kazuha in present-time grins, knowing Yunjin will be home any minute now.
“I lose again…” She laments dramatically. “The evil dragon has been slain by the hero princess!”
She throws her sword aside and scoops Hizashi up to throw her over her shoulder, making playful wooshing sounds while she spins the toddler around.
Hizashi squeals and yelps, arms dangling off her mom’s shoulder with the brightest smile on her face. She laughs just like Yunjin, and Kazuha melts every time. She didn’t think she’d ever find any sound in the world that she loved more than Yunjin laughing, and that’s still true, but her baby girl’s laugh had quickly made it a tie.
“I can’t believe Zizi beat the dragon!” Kazuha praises, using their baby’s nickname. A nickname courtesy of Yunjin, who fell in love with it because it sounded just like Zuzu. And she looked just like Zuzu, too.
Just then, the front door clicks, with Yunjin coming in shortly after.
“I’m home!” She calls out, putting her purse down in the foyer and switching her heels for indoor slippers.
Hizashi gasps, scrambling to hop down from Kazuha’s hold.
“MOMMYYYY!” The six-year-old cheers, sprinting full-speed into Yunjin’s arms and jumping into them.
“Uuf!” Yunjin heaves as their little girl tackle-hugs her, catching her puny frame and kissing her face. “Hi, my baby!”
“Hey,” Kazuha pouts in protest, strolling in with perfect timing.
Yunjin rolls her eyes playfully, smiling at her wife.
“Hello, my other baby.” She jibes, giving Kazuha a kiss.
“Technically I was first.” Kazuha insists. “If anything, she’d be the other baby.”
Yunjin scoffs. “You are not subverting our child right now just to get babied by me.”
Kazuha grins dumbly, wildly mischievous in her comfy sweats and beater tank.
“Maybe I am. Maybe I’m not…” She wiggles her eyebrows.
Yunjin swats lightly at her chest, muttering Dummy.
“Mommy, look!” Hizashi perks up, nudging Yunjin to put her down so she can go get something. It gives the two women a few moments to themselves, and Kazuha is immediately all over it.
She pulls Yunjin in by the waist, giving her a soft kiss. Yunjin melts into it, body always pliant in Kazuha’s hands. She lets Kazuha pull away first and smiles at her, tucking a piece of Kazuha’s hair behind her ear.
“How was your day, my love?” She asks.
Kazuha returns the grin, always ultra-happy when her wife is back home.
“Super fun.” She gushes. “Zizi and I got some groceries and I took her to the book shop. She’s probably grabbing them right now to show you. She picked out like four.”
Yunjin beams at the thought, turning to mush by the second.
“Oh yeah?” She muses. “New bedtime stories, I see.”
Kazuha giggles, about to respond when Hizashi comes running back in.
“Look, mommy! My new toy!” The little girl jumps excitedly.
And Kazuha was right; yes, she’s holding her books. But she’s also holding a stuffed Leafeon. And she’s so excited she doesn’t even give Yunjin a chance to properly react before she’s running off with it, mumbling something about wanting to introduce him to her other Pokemon friends.
Kazuha’s eyes are left wide, and she feels like the distorted embarrassed emoji.
Shit. She had forgotten all about that.
Yunjin lifts an eyebrow.
“You bought her another Pokemon?” She looks at her wife.
“I-...!” Kazuha swallows. “She didn’t have that one yet, okay?!”
“She has like a billion!” Yunjin scolds. “Remember we were supposed to cool it down, since her play room is getting full!”
“Well, you will not restrict me from my child’s happiness.” Kazuha nods sternly. “And that’s final.”
Yunjin snorts at her wife’s wannabe tough-guy antics.
“Dork.” She scoffs, pecking Kazuha’s lips.
Kazuha smiles at her again, blinking after a second and realizing something.
“Wait,” she says. “Didn’t you buy her a Sylveon just last week?”
“Zizi!” Yunjin calls out, pointedly ignoring her wife’s accusation and instead taking advantage of their baby’s protectiveness over Yunjin. “Mommy Zuzu is being mean to me! Come beat her up!”
The death sound of tiny rapid footsteps come bounding towards them, and Kazuha lets out her dolphin screech.
“WHY WERE YOU BEING MEAN TO MOMMY!” Hizashi lunges at Kazuha.
Ohhh Chr—
Kazuha’s in for another battle.
