"Are you guys sure about this?" Zidan shook his head. Javadi crossed her arms in protests. "Yes I heard him on the phone."
The betting board gleemed in full pride of its Post-it notes. "We have every scenario of Dr. Robby's relationship on this board. How are we supposed to find out the truth?" Withaker proposed.
Before the MS4 could speak, Dennis fell into her words. "Were not asking him Victoria." "Fine. I was just suggesting." She grumbled.
Dana cleared her throat behind them. "If you were half as invested in any of your patients as you are in your bosses relationship status, this ED would run magically." The whole group turned like meerkats.
"Come on MI6 Headquarters, patients to see, charting to do." She ushered them outside. Sullenly the group disband and went after their jobs.
"How much-" she began, the security guard looking up, "Background knowledge do you get to have to make a bet?" He eyed her carefully. "You can't bet on yourself. Why?" Dana shrugged. "No reason. Have a nice day."
"They have a board? Man those things go fast and high." Abbot shook his head. "For what exactly?" Robby drank from his drink.
The slightly cramped bar offered great drinks but horrible food. "About your relationship status. Apperantly they heard you on the phone talking to obviously a partner or something." She threw her look to Abbot.
"I mean." He cleared his troat. "Assuming that, what can we do?" He looked to Robby. Who leaned back far enough in the booth to hit his knees on the table.
"We could have fun with it." The corner of Danas lips twitch upwards. "What do you have in mind?"
Over the next few days a plan was created. And the goal was to get the bets high enough. So what was the answer. That's right teasing and flirting.
Oh and Robby had fun with it. For Abbots taste a little too much. Everyone on that board as a suspect who came into contact with Robby was given the same protocol.
The board filled steadily. Danas bet idling under them. The issue now was just to hint into the truth. Abbot took on that role.
Almost comical scenes evolved with him and his big puppy eyes. He would laugh about it with Robby together at home. The only thing he had to do was touch Robby as much as he wanted to. His shoulders, his arm, his back, his neck. He had fun.
Withaker sat on the workstation and over the edge of his screen eyeing the two attendings carefully. The hand on his back almost made him yelp. "What are we spying on Huckleberry?" Came not a second too late.
"Jesus Trin. Scared the shit out of me." "Sorry." She sat next to him. "Im watching Abbot and Robby." "Has he come in for handover yet. I want to leeaavvvee. Wanna get Indian tonight?"
"Look at it. I swear theyre doing it on purpose." Santos scooched closer. Robby sat at his desk, glasses on, reading off the screen, while Abbot was technically leaning over him, looking at the same screen, nodding engaged. One hand on the back of Robbys chair.
"Their bets are so high. We rarely see with the board." Santos grinned. "Its almost ridiculous." Dennis stopped at her comment. "Maybe it is ridiculous?" "I dont follow." He eyed them scrutinising.
The night shift attending had his hand on Robbys back, while theyre still looking at the screen. "Nevermind." He grumbled.
"Sorry but they have to be hooking up at least right?" Santos reached across for the chips. The group was assembled around the low coffee table on Trinitys and Denniss apartment.
"I thought they were married when I first met them." Javadi admitted. "Yeah so did I." Dennis drank his beer. "I find it still wierd that were talking about our bosses personal life." Javadi shook her head.
"So are they together or are they not? It sure as hell looks like it." Trinitys gaze darted around the room.
Javadi looked away. Not inconspicuous enough. "Vic. You know something. Spill!" Javadi opened her moth in protest. "I know nothing."
Santos scooched closer. "Spill Javadi or we tell your mom you drank alcohol." "Thats not fair!!" She spat. "I saw nothing. Basically nothing." "Come on Vic. You are the one that starting this whole thing." Dennis pressed as well.
She sank inside herself. "I saw them kiss. In the stairwell. They didnt see me."
Howling through the group was the answer.
"Are you serious?" Santos eyed her dangerously. She nodded stumm. "Maybe they know of the bet?" Dennis spoke cautiously.
The group went dead still. "How would they- Oh." "What Mel spit it out?" "Dana. Dana knows of the bet. She must have told them." They went silent again.
"What do we do now? Confront them?" Javadi chewed on her snack. "What good will that do?" Santos shook her head. "We need a deadline for the board." She added.
"Do you think they know that we know they know?" Javadi typed on the keyboard absently. "What is this a Friends episode?" Santos raised her eyebrow. "Who knows." She added before she could speak further. A smirk on her face.
"Anyway. We haven't found the right way yet to go about it." "This is turning complicated." Javadi spoke. "Like a living time bomb." "Yeah. Deadline is end of shift so." Santos stretched. "Ending in sight."
"ETA 5 minutes!!" Was called out and they set in motion.
Trauma case. The team worked in perfect harmony. Moving here, injecting that. "How's that morphine feeling Ms. Clover?" Abbot asked the patient.
The young brunette nodded out of it. "Heavenly." Robby forgot he smiled at him. Before Abbot could even ask, Robby handed him the forceps. Their hands brushing just second to long. They locked eye contact for a second. Their mistake.
"Are you guys together?" The patient blurts out. Drowsy on morphine. They snapped to eachother. But held the contact just a moment too long.
"Oh my god you are. That's so cute." She keeps on talking, completely out of it.
Slowly they turn around to the rest of the team. Who's starring at them. Then to eachother. "What a way to ruin the plan." Abbot shook his head. "Javadi. Make two stitches here." Robby just grinned shaking his head. "So close."
"So you admit it?" Santos blurted out, holding the ultrasound head. "That we knew of the bet or that we've been together 20 years?" He raised both eyebrows. Abbot just giggled.
The group of residents and interns just starred mouths ajar.
"Guess we won that bet." Abbot grinned over Javadis head to Robby who matched his.
