"What do you know about the Black family?" Draco asked.
Harry blinked at the non sequitur. "Your mother's family. Pure-blood, traditional, mostly insane."
"Mostly," Draco agreed dryly. "But also powerful. The Blacks have practiced bloodline magic for centuries—the kind that's woven into names and inheritance." She paused. "Have you ever wondered why they name their children after stars and constellations?"
"I assumed it was just tradition."
"It is tradition. But tradition with purpose." Draco's fingers traced the rim of her teacup. "When a Black child is named for a celestial body, they inherit magic tied to that name's meaning. Sirius—the Dog Star—could transform into a dog. Bellatrix—the female warrior—was a prodigy at combat magic. Andromeda—the chained maiden—had an unusual gift for breaking curses."
Harry's mind raced. "And you're named Draco."
"The Dragon." Her smile was sharp. "Mother is a Black. The magic passed to me through her blood."
"What does it mean? What can you do?"
