There was a buzzing in her ears when she came to.
Amber felt as though her head had been dunked underwater. She was coughing and spluttering, exhausted. All she could feel was that her neck ached. She tried to make a small light ball to put in front of her face, but all that came out were small sparks.
Said small sparks flashed, bursting like a mini firework against the body of Psycho Pirate. His mask had been discarded, tossed to the floor. Amber noticed that his face was covered in bruises, and appeared quite swelled. It was like he'd been stung by several thousand bees. She tried to gasp in surprise, but the only noise that came out was a croak-y garble.
Then, she looked up to see the source of both her throat injury and Psycho Pirate's state. Their white cloak acted as a light in the dark room they had been trapped in. She looked up, eyes wide, and felt like she was going to start to cry. However, her eyes felt downright exhausted, and the only noise that came out were some small sniffles.
"Amber?" A familiar voice said, and Amber shuffled backwards, shaking her head as she did so. "Mija, it's us. We're okay now,"
Amber was clearly terrified, feeling as though she was unable to talk. The words didn't seem to come out of her mouth - she wanted to make some snappy comment like "sure, you were okay when you strangled me" or something along those lines. Instead, what came out was a choked out noise, that sounded horrific.
"Oh… Oh no…"
Amber swallowed, an odd, burning feeling creeping up her throat. She'd only really seen Marc or Steven fronting for each other, and usually with Jade, Marc or Steven fronting from her was much more of a struggle.
Here, it seemed her walls were down, and Steven quickly took over in the crossfire. Her Moon Knight costume mutated, the black leather and white bandages transforming into Mr Knight's suit and tie.
"Hey, Amber," he greeted, his mask vanishing to reveal his features, "can you breathe for me? In two, three, hold, two, three, out, two, three,"
Amber did so, in spite of the fact her throat hurt. She felt like she was about to vomit up blood and bile, but she knew that breathing would calm her mind down. She coughed and spluttered in between deep breaths, as Steven sighed.
"Good, that's very good…" He frowned, looking down at Psycho Pirate, "still alive, so Jade's gone soft,"
Ay! Jade cried out in Steven's mind, as he frowned.
"Are you… Alright, Amber?"
Amber shook her head, "what do you think?" She croaked, finally talking for the first time in ages.
She laughed. Laughing hurt.
"I sound like a chain smoker…"
"Yeah, sorry 'bout that," Steven frowned, flicking off his suit and returning to the casual clothing that Marc had put on, "Marc's not talking to me right now. I think he feels guilty,"
"Wasn't his fault," Amber shrugged, "c-can we go home? Back to my apartment - Luna's out, but I think I need a nap and a lot of hot cocoa."
Steven smiled, "that sounds good,"
