There had been too many dreams. Daydreams and dead-to-the-world-but-not-to-her-fantasies while she tossed and turned, getting tangled in her sheets during the still-dark hours of early morning before her alarm ruined everything.
She'd woken blushing, and confused, and regretful, because they were only ever just dreams. Blue eyes and hair and hands calloused by the press of flat-wound steel strings faded with every sunrise.
Kisses trailed hot and insistent up her neck, claiming her panting breaths once again. She felt hot and dizzy and so right. She clutched the back of Luka's shirt, pulling it up and off him, only to marvel at the tattoo that had never been there in her dreams before. A green snake wound around a clutch of sakura blossoms inked right over his heart. Luka hissed softly when she traced the petals with a fingertip before kissing the head of the snake and climbing fully into Luka's lap to press more kisses up his neck.
After all the little touches and caresses he'd blessed her skin with, it was only fair, right? To return the favor on some level?
Luka moaned softly, pulling her closer. He always did in her dreams. The good ones anyway. When they didn't end before the sunrise with the words, "I have to go."
To Brazil.
Or on tour. Smiling and playing for hundreds or thousands of screaming fans.
Somewhere that wasn't with her.
"Please stay." It wasn't so much a request as a prayer. Luka took it well, holding his position as he sucked the sensitive skin of her neck until she felt herself shaking apart.
She whimpered when Luka pulled back, his eyes roaming her, half-lidded and perfect.
Her shirt was gone; that happened in her dreams too. Usually she noticed when it vanished, but this time she hadn't. He felt too real. There was more to feel than a lost shirt. His heat, the perfect pressure of his hands against her skin. The hot, wet heat of his mouth angling hers just so.
"Is this real?" Luka moaned into her neck as his hands slipped under her ass and gripped her oh so perfectly.
"Does it matter?" Marinette answered. Dream Luka didn't usually question anything. "It's real to me. I want it to be real. Isn't that enough?"
Then his mouth was back on her, just where she wanted it to be. She could feel his heart racing in time with hers as he fulfilled her deepest fantasies.
It was perfect. He was perfect.
Luka's whispered words were all about her, though. "Gorgeous. Darling. I've got you, that's it." He was more talkative than usual… and she loved it. His voice, low and husky in her ear, was so much better than his stage voice.
When she drifted to sleep in a sea of euphoria, wrapped in Luka's arms, she almost didn't mind the thought of the impending sun.
The dark was ebbing when her eyes next blinked open.
"Luka—" It was almost always the first word out of her mouth when she woke up. As if his name could capture the wispy tendrils of what only existed in sleep.
Soft gray light spilled over her bed, but there was more warmth than she was used to in the cool autumn mornings.
"I'm here, sweetheart." Arms tightened around her, pulling her close; she blinked.
Blue hair and a snake tattoo filled her vision. His eyes were still closed against the morning, but he was smiling.
Carefully, Marinette reached up to run her fingers through his tousled hair. He didn't disappear. She smiled. He was real.
For once, it wasn't a dream.
Her dream faded into memory.
Juleka had asked her to pick him up because Rose was sick. She'd brought him home, also because Rose was sick.
She'd tripped on something and banged her shoulder. Luka had offered to kiss her better.
Boy, had he.
