Time Out

Summary:

Fighting isn't allowed... sometimes enforcing the rules means following the rules

Notes:

Fictober day 12: "No More Fighting!"

Work Text:

Marinette growled at her fabric. It refused to lay right, and every time she tried adjusting it… "Aghhhhhh!"

Three sets of eyes met hers as she looked away from the ceiling where she had been seeking unfound solace.

Dewey stuck his lip out. He looked like he was on the verge of tears. "Maman. No more fighting! You need a time out."

"Oh, baby. I'm sorry—But this fabric—"

Melody stepped through the door, her arms crossed. "No. You made Dewey sad. Time out until you're in a better mood and the fabric doesn't make you mad anymore."

"The fabric started it," Marinette grumbled.

"To your room, Maman," Harmony chimed in, peering around the door. Dewey was tucked behind her. It was his expression that made her acquiesce.

Marinette turned her back on the dress form with a sigh. "Fine. I suppose a break might be a good idea."

"It's for your own good," Melody said, shooing her out of her own sewing room and pulling the door closed behind her.

Dewey was watching the whole thing with wide, shimmering eyes. Marinette dropped down to one knee to wrap him in a hug. "Thank you for taking care of me, baby."

He patted her on the back with his little hand. "It okay. You feel better in a little bit."

"I'm sure I will," Marinette responded softly. She really had too much to do to take a break, but her kids came first, and after her own emotionally treacherous childhood, mental health was a priority she wanted to demonstrate for her own kids.

Melody slipped her arm around Dewey, and Harm marched her to her room.

"Do you need anything to comfort you?" She asked at the door, and it was all Marinette could do not to laugh. Her kids really were the best.

Luka materialized at the top of the stairs. "I'll take it from here, Harm."

Marinette sighed again. At least Luka would have a grown-up understanding of her stress.

Luka bit back a grin, trying in vain to hide his amusement from his wife. She'd been tense with the upcoming fashion show, and the kids putting her in time out? It was hard not to laugh… and honestly, it would probably do her some good. She had a terrible habit of forgetting to breathe.

He pulled the bedroom door closed behind them.

Marinette flopped onto the bed with a groan. "They said I couldn't leave until I was in a better mood."

He caught her foot, pressing his thumbs into the arch, kneading slowly. "Anything I can do to help with that?"

A smile tugged at the edge of her lips. "Lu…"

"Please say yes." He worked his way up her calf, never dropping her gaze.

"Yes to what?" She sounded a little breathless now.

Luka smiled. "To a massage, or a nap, or I could get you some food… or whatever you think will make you feel better. More relaxed."

He'd paused at her knee, waiting to see what she wanted.

"I guess a little whatever wouldn't hurt."

Luka grinned. He knew his wife was reasonable. "Good. Just relax and let me take care of you."
