Work Text:
Bobby had thought it was going to be a normal hunt. It wasn't. Maybe he'd been wrong. Maybe family does end in blood.
It tends to die in it at least.
...
When Bobby arrived at the scene, a town in the middle of fucking nowhere, he wasn't all that happy. He'd just found a really great book with stuff that promised to help with the seemingly growing demon-problem when the call had come in.
Dean and Sam had a problem. A monster they couldn't quite identify and didn't know how to kill. Great. Exactly Bobby's domain.
"Get here and help me unload," Bobby ordered and opened the trunk, revealing a bunch of books and a few rare herbs and exotic weapons.
Sam and Dean complied, running over towards Bobby's car and picking up the books and shiny tools to bring them into their motel-room.
...
"Come on, boy, don't leave us here alone. You have to hold on!"
"I don't feel so good, Bobby."
"You'll be fine, I promise. You can't leave us you idjit!"
...
Just a few hours into research, Dean's cell started ringing.
He answered with some made up name and title and Bobby couldn't help a small, proud smile at that. How far his boys had come...
"New victim," Dean declared after the call ended, "I got the location, let's go."
Sam gave a harsh nod, briefly looking over their fruitless research and pocketing a silver knife that had been half-buried under books and papers.
"Let's go," the younger brother agreed and Bobby followed them both, locking the door behind them all and flicking off the light.
...
"Help'll be here in a minute, come on, you gotta hold on."
"No... Can't - I don't -"
"It's alright, don't talk, you'll be fine you hear me? I'm watching out for you always, right?"
...
It had been a trap.
The monster had caught scent of the three hunters in the small town and set up a trap.
Everything went to shit the second they entered that damn house.
It had to have been obvious. They should have noticed it. Should have noticed that the police-cars had been empty and the one officer had been suspicious.
Bobby mused they'd all still been thinking too hard about what had killed all these people in this town to notice.
...
"Just a minute more, come on. Keep your eyes open, please!"
"It's okay."
"No it's not! You'll be fine!"
"It's okay, Dean."
"Sammy, stay with me, please!"
...
The ambulance had come to late.
Sam's heart had already stopped.
His face lined with blood that he'd coughed up where he was laying on the floor, the paramedics declared his death.
Bobby felt empty.
Family did end in blood. It died in it at last.
