Work Text:
His day was going terrible, thank you for asking. Satoru had to endure the nonsense of his family first thing in the morning when he hadn't even slept well that night and then he had gone to college to have Yaga bug him the entire day as well.
So, the only way to turn his day around was ‘sugar’. He needed a treat if he planned to function for the rest of the day or whatever was left of it.
So as a person does, he enters the first shop he sees having a such a sweet-sweet display of sweet-sweet treats. Oh yeah, now we're talking.
It was a new one, he noticed as he entered. He would have bothered to look around but his mind wasn’t really functioning without the sugar rush. He bought his favourite waffles from the counter, describing in perfect detail how he would prefer them, which was essentially just demand for extra chocolate. One would think when you are getting late to get back to your house, you would get something to have on the go. Yeah, well, he isn’t everyone. If he doesn’t get through his meal in peace he will literally explode. Not being overdramatic, he really would.
He was in love with these waffles. The chocolate melted in his mouth just right and oh-so-good sweetness, the cold sweetness of the ice cream being a cherry on top.
Now, something worth noting. There are many things in this world never change. Sun rises in the east, sets in the west, his college sucks and nothing EVER comes between him and his sweets. That last one though shattered to pieces today. All because he made the mistake of taking a look around the café while eating. And his two eyes just so happened to look at the barista while doing so.
Fuck.
He was in love with that guy, he’s damn sure about it. His black hair were tied into a messy bun with bangs framing his face while his violet eyes held such beauty.
So, what does one do when you loathe coffee but loves waffles and really want to talk to a barista? You finish the waffles as quickly as you can and go stand in with the long line of suffering employees tired from a long day or ready to grovel through overtime. Frankly he was having the time of his life here.
"What should you like to have sir?"
You.
"Uhh ....the best one you have." The handsome barista smiled politely before answering, "Well I would suggest Americano.”
" Yeah, sure I’ll have that."
" And your name?"
" Gojo Satoru. And yours?"
The barista looked up at him with a forced smile, " I was asking for the order, sir.”
He couldn't let this chance go.
" Yeah, but you know mine so it’s only fair I know yours."
The barista sighed before signalling to his name tag which, to be fair, he hadn't even seen. “Geto Suguru.” Suguru The barista continued with a tight smile, " Sir you're holding up the line. Here’s your coffee. Have a good day."
Well, he knew a dismissal. He returned to his table and looked at the coffee in his hand, tasting it tentatively.
It had looked good in all seriousness, had pretty art too but it was bitter.
Well. All the more excuse to go talk to the barista. He meant all the more reason to get extra sugar.
~
For the next few weeks, he was there early in the evening, his mission to get a certain Geto Suguru’s phone number. Most of the days he tried to reach early, only some of those attempts being successful. Every day, he tried to talk with Suguru a little longer than usual, to get to know him better.
He knew Suguru worked part time from six in the evening till ten at night. How Suguru was a college student as well, a different one from his own unfortunately. How Suguru preferred cats and liked to read manga.
He still didn’t have the phone number. Nevertheless, he stood in the line, waiting eagerly for his turn, having the time of life.
Suguru smiled at him that not sporting his corporate smile today and gosh was it beautiful.
"Good morning, sir, would you like to have your regular?"
Nope, boring. Ordering regular mean conversation over.
"Actually, how about something new? "
"Alright what would you like to have?"
"Recommend something. I would take anything."
"How about French Vanilla. It is very sweet since you usually find your regular bitter?"
"Oh, you remembered? How very nice."
"You are pretty unforgettable."
What?
His brain stopped functioning. Genuinely. He looked back at Suguru and oh god that sly flirty smile was making him malfunction. His heart was literally playing drums in his ears. He was pretty sure it would literally jump out of his chest to run to Suguru if it could.
" Sir? Should I take that one as an order?"
The voice dragged him back to reality. Suguru was still smiling at him, amused at his reaction. Had he done something foolish? Did it matter if it got him that smile? He gathered his wits, not wanting this lovely moment to be over. He could stand here and talk all day just to watch that damn smile.
He leaned over the counter as he whispered, " So I’m pretty memorable, huh? Is it my handsome face? Or perhaps beautiful eyes? Do you think I’m pretty Suguru?" His heart raced at the slip, freaking out if he had overstepped and finally annoyed him? Fuck. Why wouldn't his brain just function normally?
Suguru's eyes widened slightly before crinkling at the corners. Oh, they shone like stars hidden in those violet eyes of his. "Well, you're not-not pretty—" and then Suguru’s voice dropped to a husk, "Satoru."
A voice cut from behind him mixed with amusement and annoyance, " As much as this is entertaining, could you both flirt some other time when the rest of us here aren't getting late?"
Well, that's just rude and annoying. He was having a blast. Suguru put back his barista smile even though his face had a slight blush as he apologised before ushering him away.
He waited on the table for his coffee to get ready as someone else took over to take the orders. He watched Suguru prepare some coffee at the back, his view being interpreted by the other barista and the people, annoying him to no end. He thought back to his name falling from those lips, how it sounded so nice in his voice. He wanted to hear it more.
Suguru had said his name like a lover's secret, as something precious to behold. His heart started hammering as he felt heat rush onto his face. He kept his eyes on Suguru’s back, watching him work methodically with so much concentration, yet his hands working with practiced ease. Suguru placed the coffee on the counter, muttering probably the name of the customer before going back to some work.
Only to realise it was his order. He practically jumped from his seat. Suguru smirked from his place, eyeing him from the side as he reached for it.
He stared at the heart drawn on the coffee. Now he didn't want to drink it and wanted to keep staring at that heart. He settled at taking a photo, trying but very much failing to be discrete, evident from a small laugh he heard from Suguru, before taking a sip. It was heavenly. Perfectly sweet and warm. He loved coffee so much.
It was probably this perfect because Suguru had prepared it. It would be embarrassing for Suguru and he didn’t want to drive him away; else he would have gushed like a kid on the spot.
But then he fell in love with that plastic cup. It had his name, ‘Satoru’. The noteworthy thing, however, was the phone number with a heart next to it.
This was the best day of his life.
