Work Text:

The sun had just begun to set over the quiet countryside, and a certain two Gems who resided in a barn were now making their way over to the couch to partake in their favorite part of the day: watching Camp Pining Hearts together.

Peridot had been the first to get into the show and before long, she had managed to also get Lapis into it. Now the two of them had a daily routine of watching a couple episodes before bed.

“Lapis, hurry up!” Peridot urged, sitting and glancing over at her partner.

Lapis chuckled. “Okay, okay. I'll be right there.” She took a seat next to the shorter Gem.

Peridot smiled and began to turn on the next episode. “I've been waiting for so long to get to this part!”

“We've already seen the whole show at least five times,” Lapis pointed out, grinning.

Peridot laughed. “I know we have, but it never gets old.”

“True,” Lapis conceded. She had to give credit where it was due, Peridot had done a good thing in introducing her to this show. She really did enjoy it, and it somehow managed to get even better with every rewatch.

Peridot stared at the screen, her expression beginning to sour as soon as she saw her least favorite character come into view. “Ugh. Go away, Paulette.”

Lapis gave her an amused look before turning her attention back to the show. It was comical how much the green Gem hated Paulette.

Peridot scowled. “Paulette, you suck! Go away, you clod!"

Lapis tried and failed to stifle a giggle.

Peridot paused the show and turned her attention over to Lapis. “And what is so funny, Lazuli?”

“You,” Lapis replied, laughing.

Peridot pouted. “I fail to observe the alleged humor of my current state of frustration. Paulette is giving me a spike of much cortisol.”

Peridot's use of smart words just made Lapis laugh even more.

The green Gem squinted. “I'm still failing to see what you find so funny about me.”

“Just the way you get so animated when watching the show,” Lapis explained around her giggles.

Peridot thought about it, then reluctantly began to smile. “Okay, I suppose that's sensible.”

“See?” Lapis grinned over at her.

“But my frustration is warranted! Paulette is the worst character ever in all of existence!” Peridot ranted.

Lapis chuckled, all too used to Peridot’s endless rants about how much she hated Paulette.

Peridot ranted passionately for a bit longer before pushing play on the show again…and then ranted passionately again the next time Paulette had the audacity to show up on the screen.

The two Gems watched the show in silence for the remainder of the episode, a nice sense of peace settling over them both.

By now, the sun had set completely, the colors of the sunset had faded, and the stars had come to litter the dark sky. All was quiet outside aside from the soft hum of the crickets and a few sporadic owl hoots.

As for the inside of the barn, Lapis and Peridot alternated from laughing, commenting on the episode, yelling at the TV, and some moments of quiet.

But whether there was noise or not, the peaceful and happy mood between the friends turned partners remained.

Yeah, this really is my favorite part of the day, Lapis thought, smiling to herself as she glanced from the TV to the smaller Gem that sat beside her.
