Work Text:

Copia has sworn to you over and over again that he is not scared of horror movies.

“Cara mia, I am a man of culture- Eh, these little horror movies?”

Looking you in the eye he waves a hand in the air passively as if waving off the concept of fear itself.

“Pfft. They do not frighten me! I have seen things on tour that would make these silly little movies look like a day in the park!”

With a smile plastering across your face, you don’t bother arguing, just giving a simple nod in agreement. While you are getting ready and fetching drinks, Copia is spending the better part of an hour making the most elaborate pillow and blanket fort that you have ever seen. There is even a set of string lights strung all throughout it, making it so very cozy.

When you return with drinks in hand, he quickly hurries out of the room. While you have the opportunity you turn down the lights and light a few candles to really give the room a spooky atmosphere. Just as you settle into the fort, Copia shuffles in behind you with a big red bowl of fresh buttery popcorn, practically too big for him to carry. Balancing it carefully, he lowers himself beside you and you immediately snuggle in to his side. The glasses upon his face have slipped down his nose, so he nudges them back into place with a tiny sniff, puffing his chest up as if this is truly- no big deal.

It takes all of 2 minutes for Copia to startle at the opening music. The movie has barely even began when a shrill violin screech cuts through the speakers. Copia jolts so hard popcorn is sent flying, half of it raining down onto the blanket, the other half on top of both of your heads.

“Mio dio!” he hisses, clutching at your arm in a tight grip. “They start with all the scary music already? It is not fair, eh?”

You giggle picking a piece of stray popcorn from his hair and popping it into your mouth. As he burrows closer, practically hiding against your shoulder, you grin widely. “It’s just the opening credits, Copia.”

“Yes, yes, but it is the foreshadowing!” He whispers with urgency, leaning so close you can smell the butter on his breath. Peeking around from the safety of your arm, his eyes dart to the screen like something might just leap straight into the room with you. The true first jump scare makes him give an undignified squeak and he ducks, dragging you along with him in a flurry of blankets and limbs.

“Okay, you’re definitely more scared than me,” you tease with a giggle, tugging the covers back to look at his face.

“No, no, cara,” he tuts, quickly emerging from the blankets, red faced and puffing himself up with what little dignity he has left. “I cuddle you only so you feel safe.” His voice cracks at the last word when the music swells again.

You grin, pulling him tightly against your side. “Of course. Totally for me. That explains why you’re shaking.”

Before he can retort back another crash of loud jarring music blasts through the speakers. Copia yelps and practically launches himself into your lap, glasses all askew as he buries his face into your shoulder. Clutching your sleeve like it is his only lifeline he grumbles softly

“Cuore mio, you are very lucky I am here to protect you.”

You absolutely cannot help yourself- you burst into a laughing fit while tightly wrapping your arms around him, pressing tiny kisses into his now extremely messy hair.

“Totally! I feel muuuch safer now that I’m wearing you like a blanket.”

The movie quiets again but Copia doesn’t loosen his grip on you. If anything, his grip tightens with every swell of the music and jump scare on the screen. He is making a show of keeping one eye glued to the screen- solely to prove he isn’t TOO rattled by it all.

And for all of the dramatics of it all, you do not mind one little bit. The warmth of him pressing against you, the popcorn scattered all over, the flickering candlelight casting shadows on the wall- it all feels perfectly cozy and comfy.
