A soft silence settled over the dark room as Rae rolled off of Kate.
Kate instantly curled her body so that she was behind her, one arm wrapped around her waist, her face nestled in the groove of her back. Their naked bodies tangled underneath the satin sheets.
She inhaled her scent and ran a finger along the pale ridge between Rae’s shoulder blades, one of many.
Kate shuddered at the memory of the encounter with the Lizard League. The one that had almost killed Rex and Rae and the encounter that had given her one of her most violent deaths to date.
She still had nightmares thinking about it.
This scar came from where one of Rae’s bones had protruded the skin after being eaten alive and breaking all her bones trying to free herself. The GDA took months to put her back together but some of the scars were still present.
Rae shifted slightly, a faint hum in her throat. The thin, white lines crisscrossed her skin. Kate shifted up and pressed a soft kiss to a scar.
"Does it hurt?" Kate suddenly whispered.
"'Course not." Rae’s voice came out in a murmur. "Not anymore. Not with you."
