Work Text:

“Why us specifically?” Chuuya asked as he looked up from the mission file in his hand.  “Mostly because this case needs an executive to take care of it, it’s a highly skilled mission. And even though you guys have been working together for almost two years now you guys can always improve as partners. So instead of just sending Dazai I thought I would send the both of you.” Mori said. “It’s not often that there’s a case that would be particularly concerning that an executive would need to take care of it, what makes this case so different?” Dazai asked. “That’s correct, but what makes this case so concerning and also another reason Im sending Chuuya on the case is that the targets handout happens to be a abandon underground bunker made completely of concert, and we can’t find ay blue print layout of it.” Mori sighed, Chuuyas stomach instantly turned at his words.

“There’s a bigger problem than that isn’t there?” Dazai more so stated than asked. “Correct again, you see the target also has a special ability. The ability to control anything that is made up of minerals.” “So basically it’s like fighting someone in their own habitat.”  Chuuya sighed “It’s exactly like that.” Dazai said. Mori went over all of the other small details of the mission before Dazai and Chuuya head out for the base. After meeting at the age of 15, they became partners not only in work but also in their personal lives. But while at work, they try their best to keep their relationship private. The last thing they want is for someone to use their relationship against them. Of course there are a few who do know about their relationship, like Mori and Koyo. But they’re not too worried about them knowing, and Mori is fine with it as long as they don’t let it come between their jobs, which they both agreed that would be best.

Of course, when on a job, they’re not going to act like they hate each other, but they’re not going to act like they’re in love with each other even though they 100% are. Dazai knows most things about Chuuyas past, of course there are still some things that are difficult for him to talk about, but Dazai has always been good at conecting dots. And even though they say they won’t let how close they are show, Dazai couldn’t help but be worried at the way Chuuyas been acting ever since they had gotten the mission. “Hey, you okay?” Dazai asked as they walked through overgrown trees and bushes, making their own path. “Dazai, what did we say?” Chuuya said slowing down a little glancing behind him. “I know, I know. But Chuuya, you’re tense and you know it too. I have every right to be worried right now…” It was a very unusual thing to see Chuuya tense or have his guard down even in the slightest.

Chuuya came to a stop before sighing and turning to look at Dazai, “I’ll be okay, it’s nothing to be worried about. Okay?” Chuuya said in a reassuring tone, but it wasn’t fooling Dazai in the slightlest. Dazai for the past two years, has studied everything about Chuuya. From his favorite food, to the many freckles he has on his face. From how he does his hair in the mornings, to his favorite time of day and how his blue eyes reflect everything he has ever loved.  He knows Chuuya with more than just his eyes, he knows him with his whole soul and heart. To Dazai, Chuuya is more than just his love story, he is the very human who carries all of him in the palm of the other’s hand. But Dazai didn’t want to push even though he knew something was wrong, but he wasn’t going to let Chuuya think he outsmarted him.

Dazai just sighed and looked at him with eyes of worry before Chuuya turned around and continued on their way. Soon after, they reached what was believed to be the entrance, Dazai stepped forward and brushed off vines and leaves from a noticeably flatter spot on the ground. And there it lies, a metal door that seemed to lead to something underground. He picked the lock on the door before opening it, it made a slight creak sound as the door opened. Dazai looked at Chuuya who had a distressed look on his face, Dazai was doing everything in his power right now to not walk over to him, give him a hug and hold him until he felt better. But now that they’re at the base, there is a large chance that they’re being watched. Dazai waved him over before crawling down the ladder that entered into a staircase that went further down. He looked up to see Chuuya staring down at him, he took a deep breath before following suit and climbing down.

When he got down the ladder he turned to look behind him and grumbled when he saw the staircase that had further down. Dazai just glanced at him before leading them both down the long staircase, when they got to the bottom it opened up into a long but wide hallway with tall cellings. Cautiously, they made their way through the tunnel, but only about 20 feet before reaching the end of it speakers buzzed to life around them.

“It seems like you finally found my base. Though I will say I expected you would, after all you are the legendary duo. But all I see, is two kids that were both created to be weapons…”

The speakers buzzed with the voice of the obvious target, and It was more than obvious that they were attempting to get under their skin. Even though they did stop when the speakers came on, they had a job to get done, so Dazai continued walking. But Chuuyas eyes stayed glued to the floor, and so did his feet. “Ah Ah Ah. One step closer and you won’t have a very fun time getting out of here.” “Damn, I didn’t know that someone could be such a coward. Hiding behind a door that obviously has another way out. Why don’t you come out and face us yourself? It’s a lot funner that way.” Dazai smiling up at the camera that hung from the ceiling. “Don’t mock me as if I don’t  know something about you two.”

“Something that would be troublesome if others found out.”

Dazai’s eyes widened slightly but his smile didn’t falter, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Dazai said, his voice sounding as if he had never told a lie. “Oh but I have a feeling you do.”  Suddenly, a projector came down from the ceiling and lit up to life. At least a dozen images appeared that seemed to only be taken minutes ago, and then a video. “These photos and this video were taken from my cameras that Arte hidden around my base entrance only minutes ago. You two seem a little…close, don’t you think? What a shame it would be if people knew your biggest weaknesses, and that they happened to be each other. ”  The voice that spoke over the speakers said. Dazai knew that this time there was no denying anything he was saying, there was undying evidence and not to mention the rumors that had been going around about it.

He also knew that there was no reason to act as if he didn’t care because it was known that in this world, having any weakness at all was not a good thing. Let alone letting people find out what your weakness is, it’s right about now that Dazai is running out of approaches to make where he will win. “And how exactly do you think you will be able to get this around the world? Even if you do make it out of this alive, and on top of that what makes you believe that people would even believe you?” Dazai said still trying to make it seem that none of this is getting to him, even though every bone in his body is screaming at him, and his mind is showing all the bad possibility’s if this gets out to the world.

“Don’t act as if you don’t know all the rumors about you two, people have seen it with their own eyes but until now had no evidence. If I’m going to be honest I had droughts about the roamers too until now.  And words spread faster than wildfires, and so does the internet. If I were to post this right now who know what would happen, but I think we both have a pretty good idea of what would, after all it doesn’t take a gigues to see that everyone would aim to get ahold of even just one of you. Because after that they will have control of both of you. And that’s a lot of power for just one person, I mean you two are practically what is keeping the port mafia at the top right now even though you both are only 17 years old. The voice was obviously proud of himself right now, and if Dazai was being honest. It was really pissing him off.

“If I’m going to be honest you do have me in a tie here. But there’s a lot of “if I were to”, meaning that you most likely have an offer to make. Dazai said still looking up at the camera. “That would be correct, my offer is that if you too work under me, I will keep your secret safe for as long as you are loyal. If you refuse, your secret will be known by the whole world. Now, which do you prefer?” Of course, Dazai didn’t even have to think about taking his offer, even if he did there was still a large possibility he wouldn’t keep his word. But to make it look like he was considering it he thought to himself for a second, before turning to look at Chuuya. But Chuuya wasn’t looking back at him, his eyes were locked to the ground, and he was slightly shaking, but not enough to see from a very far distance let alone through a camera witch means the target likely didn’t notice. And for some reason not until now did Dazai not  notice either, he was worried, so very worried that he was thinking about saying fuck this Goodman mission and running to Chuuya. But now this was more than just an omission, this now was also the difference between their biggest secret being reviled.

“Fine, I’ll take you up on the offer. But honestly how am I supposed to trust you if you’re just hiding behind that camera?” Dazai said, the way he said it made him sound almost excited to be out of the Mafia, which was exactly what he was aiming for. “I suppose that is a fair request, but how do I know that you won’t try to attack me, you could just be bluffing.” The voice that still had an unknown voice said. “Don’t forget that you still have control over this entire room, you could easily escape without a problem.” Dazai said, he wasn’t only reminding them of that but also himself, he needed to calculate this exactly right to actually succeed.

“As I thought, you do know what my special ability is, you are both more educated than I thought.” The door opened and a tall woman stepped out. She had long black hair and raven-black eyes that matched, and she looked as if she was in her late twenties. “So, what made you decide to actually take my offer besides your secret being revealed? You seemed not to resist taking my offer.” She said, stopping not to close to make distance. “If I’m going to be 100% honest I don’t really take a liking to our boss, and I know that Chuuya feels the same. So this was a better opportunity for us regardless of the blackmail.” Dazai said smiling. “Speaking of him, he hasn’t moved a single time during this whole conversation, what’s up with that?” The woman asked looking behind Dazai, “Oh, he’s just tired is all. Our boss would work us to the bone so we never had time to ever rest. That’s just one of the reasons we hate him.” Even though Dazai knew that wasn’t the case. It was the best reasonable excuse he could come up with that would actually be believable.

“Oh I see, why don’t you too come inside and we can talk while he rests?” The woman offers, Dazai nodded his head and as the lady turned around Dazai instantly pulled his gun out and shot directly at the back of her head. But right before it could hit a piece of rock, a rack came flying, stopping the bullet before it could hit. She slowly turned around grinning, “Oh wow, it’s almost like I called it.” Suddenly the ceiling started to crack and break, pieces started falling from the ceiling and soon after larger pieces that eventually turned into boulders. “I just can’t wait to see how this turns out.” The woman said right before they were completely surrounded by rock.

“GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!!” Dazai yelled throwing his pistol on the floor, he then regained his composure, realizing that yelling isn’t going to do anything to help the situation. That’s when he remembered his partner behind him, he turned quickly to still see Chuuya standing there the same way he had been standing the whole time. Dazai turned on his heels and walked towards him faster than intended, “Hey, what’s going on?” Dazai asked kneeling in front of the shorter, and when he saw how panicked the other looked. He grabbed his hand tight with his, and pulled him into himself.

Chuuya sank to his knees intantly, grabbing onto Dazai’s coat like a lifeline. “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’ve got you.” Dazai said warping his arm around Chuuya. “I-I don’t l-like it h-here…” Chuuya said at a whisper so quiet Dazai almost didn’t hear it. “Here?” Dazai asked, confused by what he meant. Chuuya nodded his head before responding, “Underground…” Dazai then realized that Chuuya was being held in an underground lab when he was being experimented on. And suddenly the whole day was starting to make a lot more sense, “Oh Chuuya, you should have told me. You didn’t have to come, or I could have made Mori give this mission to a different executive.”Dazai said, also wishing that he would have told Mori to do so.

“I k-know…I’m sorry.”Chuuya said curling more into Dazai’s coat as if he was trying to disappear into it. “Don’t be, I should have taken us back the second I realized something was wrong. If anything I should be sorry, because likely by tomorrow everyone’s going to know…” Dazai said obviously still upset and guilty about it. But Dazai right as he said that he realized how much more stressed Chuuya became, “Hey, let’s not worry about that right now, let’s focus on getting out of here” Dazai said looking around. He noticed at the top there was a small opening, barely the size of a volleyball. Dazai took hold of Chuuyas hand before helping him climb with him to the top before pulling at the rocks around the hole carefully to not make anything either rocks fall.

He was able to make a big enough hole for them to be able to crawl out of, he first helped Chuuya out before following him out. They climbed down the other side of piled rocks before finally reaching the bottom. “How are you doing, 1-10?” Dazai asked Chuuya who looked a little more comfortable but still was distressed. “4” Chuuya said quietly. “We can work with that.” Dazai smiled. They held hands and stayed as close as possible as they walked down the long hallway, Dazai took out his phone and called a driver because there was no way Chuuya was stable enough to walk back right now.

By the time they made it to the closest road the car was already there and ready for them, Dazai made sure Chuuya got in first before following him in. “Where to?” The driver asked, “Headquarters.” Dazai replied as they started driving off. Chuuya leaned his head on Dazai’s shoulder and they drove to their destination. Now the only thing next to do is figure out what they’re going to do next.
