Work Text:
Tango's arms were crossed in front of his chest, one of his hands holding a few loose papers. The shiny, golden wedding band on his ring finger almost glimmered in this light. A stern, calculated gaze stared at the documents from above his glasses, deeply focused on the contents of whatever those papers held. He was dressed all proper, a deep red dress shirt with rolled up sleeves, not quite buttoned to the top. Wearing dark grey slacks with a black belt, the shirt and what was beneath it caked slightly on top. Strong, hairy forearms framed an equally hairy chest — with a thin, golden chain and a sun-shaped pendant buried in the brown and grey fuzz.
Impulse's smile immediately brightened as he saw his husband, all fancied up and pretty. Sure, he literally gave him a goodbye kiss this morning, but there was something special about seeing him in his natural habitat. He closed the door behind him, waiting patiently for Tango to notice him.
After a short moment of staring intently at the paper, Tango sighed.
"Sorry, I'll get to you in a seco—" Looking up, Tango sure didn't expect the love of his life to be beaming at him from across the room. The stern, stressed look immediately melted off of him, replaced with a loving smile. He discarded the documents on the desk, no way they could ever be as important as his husband.
"Impulse! I see today's a special meeting?"
Impy giggled, taking a few steps forwards to close the gap between them. Tango met him around the desk, immediately cupping his cheek to give him a little kiss.
"You know it. I thought we could head over together."
"Absolutely, but— jeez, aren't you dressed all fancy!" Taking his husband's hand, he gave Impy a little twirl. A gorgeous, light beige shirt tucked into grey and black striped pants. The black stripes were quite thin, though matched the belt he wore on top. To complement the grey, Impulse wore a tie in the same color. The highlight of the fit, as well as the accent color, was the small, golden sun pin that matched with Tango's necklace on his tie. Besides making them look like a perfect pair, the gold also tied in his own wedding ring into the whole look beautifully.
These weren't your average business casual clothes, no. Impulse was fully dressed up for the occasion.
"I could say the same about you!" Impy complimented back, even if he had already had the privilege of watching Tango put all of that on. Something of a reverse strip tease. Despite the absurdity, they sure could make it work for themselves.
Tango waved him off with a laugh, giving Impy another slow look up and down.
"Almost wanna steal you away and have a 'meeting' of our own…" he hummed in a lower tone, his eyes all intense while he smirked. The hand he'd used to twirl settled back against his side, while the other slipped down to Impulse's middle to pull him in closer.
After a short, spooked little noise Impy giggled, cupping Tango's cheeks lovingly.
"Maybe that can be arranged… I'm quite excited for the project overview today, though! I prepared a whole presentation to show off," Impy beamed, immediately turning Tango's grin into a matching smile.
The arm around Impy's middle loosened, though was joined by the other to softly hold him close. Deciding to be a little mischievous, he pushed against the hands that held his cheeks to press a small peck to Impy's lips.
"No time to waste, then! I'm excited to see your presentation."
Their conference today was in a building just across the street, and on the way they had enough time to consider if they'd want to eat out today, grab something to bring home for dinner or actually cook themselves. Impulse easily wooed Tango with the idea of going to his favorite bar after they were done, so he could get himself something nice if he'd help Impy out during the presentation. Already hungry at the thought alone, Tango obviously agreed, though asked to change the topic right after. Nothing worse than sitting in some sort of meeting with a rumbling stomach.
After slipping through the entrance doors and into the elevator, Impy smiled and opened up another topic.
"Can you believe this is the same building we met in?"
"Ugh, don't remind me. It's been over a decade and they still haven't changed the any of the chairs. My back feels sore just thinking about it," Tango scoffed lightly, touching his lower back to support his dramatics. After a moment of no reaction, he curiously gave Impy a glance.
Pouting slightly, clearly that wasn't the answer he had hoped for. He glanced over as well, though quickly averted his eyes again as he noticed Tango was looking at him too.
Snorting amused, Tango took a breath in and tried again.
"Yes Impy, I'm so happy we met here, it was so romantic and cute! And I love you," Tango intentionally put on a slightly squeaky voice, lovingly making fun of his husband as they walked out of the elevator.
Impulse poked his elbow into Tango's side all offended, but they shared a hearty laugh about it. Their joking was cut short by arriving at their destination, those familiar blurred glass doors with some of their coworkers already inside. Taking a small moment to readjust and fix themselves up, they walked into the room one after the other.
All those years ago, back when Impulse had just started working at the firm — and the now long-standing collaboration between the two companies they worked for was brand new. Maybe it even happened in that same room they were walking into, neither of them really remembered after all this time. Tango had been having a particularly bad week, with overdue deadlines and his coworkers calling in sick all over the place. He had gone into that conference with low expectations, but was met with the most gorgeous man he'd ever seen. And, as luck would have it, was tasked to work with him right away. They bonded over coffee, doing outstanding work on their assigned project and simply… kept arranging little dates.
They didn't live too far from each other, managing to meet more and more regularly. A friendship blossomed into something more, and soon enough they thought themselves as almost inseparable. The rings and matching pendants were simply to show the world an expression of their love. Marriage was more like a stamp on what they already knew.
Now, after all these years together, the rest was history.
