Thor's leg was bouncing up and down relentlessly. The air smelled like medicine and sickness, the beeping of the machines all around Loki's bed was driving Thor into madness.
Loki had been lying in that bed for hours, nay days at this point.
Three days. Three days since they had defeated the Chitauri. Two days since they got Loki out of surgery.
Extensive internal injuries and bleeding, head trauma, malnourishment, multiple broken, half-healed bones, cuts, bruises, burns and scars.
The list was too long to remember. And Thor had no idea where the scars came from.
They were too old to be from the battle but too young to be from their childhood.
The sheets rustled.
Loki moved.
For the first time in two days, Loki moved.
Thor sprung from his seat, immediately at the edge of the bed, hands closing tightly around the rails.
"Brother?", he asked, voice tight with hope.
Loki groaned, throwing his head to the side.
"Come on, brother, wake up," Thor mumbled. The rails creaked under the pressure of his hands.
"N't your br'ther," Loki groaned and Thor could have collapsed out of relief.
"Hey," he breathed, "You're finally awake."
"H'w long?", his brother asked, squeezing his eyes shut before forcing them open.
"Two days."
Horror creeped onto Loki's face and the beeping of the machine started to pick up in speed.
"Brother? Are you alright? I can call the doctors if you need me to," Thor offered, worry tightening his face.
"They know I failed," Loki whispered, voice cracking in fear?
"Who knows? Loki what is going on?", Thor asked perhaps a little too harshly.
"They know! Thor, they know, they'll come and kill you all, they'll take me again, Thor," Loki mumbled desperately, trying to reach out towards his brother. His hands were tied to the rails of the bed.
"It's alright, Loki, you're okay, just calm down," Thor tried, pushing the large red button on the wall. They had told him to press it should he need any help.
Loki did not calm down. He continued mumbling and trying to pull against the restraints.
"You have to calm down, Loki, you'll only hurt yourself, please," Thor asked again.
A handful of people in bright blue outfits filed into the room, yelling words Thor didn't understand and pulling him away from the bed.
Thor didn't resist. He let himself be dragged out of the room, watching as they pushed some liquid into Loki's veins that made the beeping slow down until Loki sank back into the pillows.
Unconscious. Again.
Thor didn't now what he'd do when Loki woke up again. He didn't know what he'd say then.
