   Summary

   Uki is only 6 years old when her family discovers she can firebend. She is seven years old when she begins training with the Bending Brigade.
   The Brigade is big, and scary, and overwhelming, but she has her new friends to help her! Things can’t be so bad when you have a squad, can they?
   The captains are kind, her allies are strong and kind and funny, she gets to see her family on holidays and breaks…and she’s known as a hero in Ellora, because she serves the Brigade!
   But then Uki is no longer a wide-eyed child. She is 12, and then 14, and then 15, and now she is 19 and the world looks so different compared to how it did when she was eight even though it’s hardly changed-physically at least.
   The Brigade is exhausting…punishments are harsher…she is tired all the time…her family is concerned for her…but she can barely see them anyway.
   Something should change…right?
