Chapter 1: First coffee

Chapter Text

Sunlight beamed through the blinds, gently pulling you from sleep.

Morning already?

You rubbed your eyes, slowly lifting yourself up. Then, you glanced at the clock on your nightstand, making sure you hadn’t overslept.

6:28 AM, 2 minutes before your alarm.

I guess there’s no point going back to sleep

You stretched your arms with a yawn before gazing around. The way sunlight spilled into your room, casting a soft, golden glow over everything… It was beautiful. You felt so peaceful looking at this scenery that it was a shame you had to leave your bedroom.

Eventually, you had to go. You took one last glance at your surroundings, then stood up, starting to get ready for the day.

And before you knew it, you were already at work. The familiar warmth of the coffee shop greeted you as you settled behind the counter. While quickly grabbing your apron and tying it around your waist, you heard a silent jingle of the bell above the door. You turned your head to look.

A guy with dark green hair and matching round glasses stepped into the cafe. His hair was short, curly and messy, as if he just woke up. And to be honest… it somehow looked really cute. The glasses made him look kind of weird though, what kind of person wears glasses like that?

“Good morning.” you greeted him, calmly.

“Morning. Can I get a… uh…” he hesitated, looking at the menu above the counter.

“Can I help you?”

“Uh, yeah. What would you recommend?”

You glanced at the menu before answering.

“It depends. Do you like your coffee sweet or bitter?”

He paused.

“Um… sweet?”

“Hm, I think you’d like a caramel latte. Would you like to try it?”

“Yeah, sure. Whatever.”

“What size?”

“Uh… medium.”

You nodded, turning around to prepare his drink. The hum of the coffee machine filled the otherwise quiet coffee shop. While you made his latte, you couldn’t help but think about how silly he looked wearing glasses like that.

I mean, it’s not for me to judge…

You shook your head. Maybe if he’s going to be a regular you’ll ask him about it someday, but right now it would just be rude.

After adding the caramel syrup, you placed the lid on the cup before turning back around.

“Here you go! One caramel latte.”

You smiled at him.

“Thanks.”

He said, grabbing the drink off the counter.

“That’ll be 280 rubles.”

He pulled 300 out of his pocket

“Keep the change”

“Thank you, have a good day!”

He gave you a small nod before taking a seat next to the window.

You returned to your work, though his unusual appearance kept catching your attention every now and then. He was sipping on his latte, mostly scrolling through his phone, occasionally glancing out the window. It seemed like he wasn’t in a hurry.

Eventually, as you were busy with other customers, he finished his drink and left. You barely paid any attention to it, the only reason you noticed is the jingle of the bell as he left.

The rest of your shift went as usual. Some regulars came, some new faces too. It’s not like you remembered every single one. And for a while, you forgot about that guy.

Until a few days later.
