Summary
Robin was his mother’s, was his father’s, was Bruce’s.
Most importantly, however, Robin was the name Dick had made his own and it was his.
He had earned every scrape, every bruise, every late night on the wire in those cavernous tents and on the mats in the vast cave. He had earned the right to wear those colors not only on the trapeze beside his parents, but also on the streets beside Bruce. He’d learned how to fall and how to get back up, how to read Bruce’s silences and anticipate his movements, how to understand a city that seemed determined to swallow them both whole.
And now, it wasn’t. Now Robin was gone and it’d never be returned to him.
