"My blood is in his veins, he belongs to me." David turned away from Star, stepping closer to Michael.
"David." Star warned. "Back off."
"I think he can choose how he feels, Star. Why don't you let him speak, hm?"
Michael hesitated as David took his chin in his hand, smiling. "What's it gonna be, Michael? A life where you can be free? Forever? Or a life where you know you'll die someday, held back from what you really want?"
"I-"
David lifted Michael's chin, staring intently at him."Tick tock Michael. We don't have much time."
"David-"
Star crossed her arms. "Michael he's tricking you. End it already."
David held up his hand. "Choose."
Michael looked at Star then to David, he tightened his hand around the stake. "I don't know."
"Michael do it." Star pushed.
"Focus on me Michael, not her. Give me an answer."
"I don't know, I-"
"Michael come on!"
Michael pushed off of David, letting the stake fall to the floor. He ran a hand through his hair aggressively, pacing back and forth. "I don't know what I want okay?" He snapped. "I want to be free, I really do, but my family! I don't want to leave them behind! I-I can't do that to my mom or to Sam."
"Hey... I never said you had to leave anyone behind." David's voice was softer now, realizing Michael's distress. He reached out to Michael, giving him a chance to back away. "We gave you a chance to belong, so you didn't have to feel so alone. You said so yourself that you wanted someone to listen, to make you feel whole, to guide you home." Taking Michael's hand, David pulled him closer inch by inch, cupping his cheek. "You don't need to give up anything."
"Michael you don't seriously think-"
"Star you're clouded by hatred, you think we're monsters." David said. "Michael chose this, I gave him a chance out and he still went with it. I let you pick if you wanted to be a vampire or not, you chose it. There was always a choice."
Michael glanced behind David, at Sam and the Frogs frozen in place, ready to attack, time continued to stand still. He thought of his mom, what would she think?
"Michael, what's your decision?" David questioned.
He didn't know, still. Immortal life and freedom or a chance at growing old, being held back from what he truly wished for?
"I-I..."
"Look at me." David commanded, stern but not unkind. He guided Michael's eyes back to him, his face held no anger, no resentment. "It's alright."
"I want to be free." He said with finality.
David smiled, running his thumb along Michael's jaw. "Good boy."
Time came rushing back, everything moving at once, snapping back into reality as their moment ended.
"Michael step away from him!" Sam shouted, aiming his crossbow at David. The Frog brothers stood close behind, holy water guns raised.
"Michael, why?" Star asked. "Why side with him? You never wanted this."
"I very much wanted this. I want to feel something real Star, I want to feel whole."
"I'm sorry but I just can't be one of you. I don't want to be a killer."
"I highly advise both of you to step away from the vampire!" Edgar said.
Alan raised a stake menacingly. "Yeah! Back off!"
"No, no. Just listen." Michael stepped closer to them, backing up from David. "Just wait a minute. I know that this sounds like some cheesy movie shit but he's not the bad guy."
"What- what do you mean?" Sam asked.
"He just isn't okay! I overreacted and some... details got lost in translation."
Edgar asked, "So we killed the other three over a misunderstanding?"
David glared at him, making a noise akin to a growl.
Michael placed a hand on his chest. "David."
"You killed them." David pushed past Michael, getting in Sam's face. "They weren't hurting you. You killed them."
"Dwayne knocked out Michael, pushed him right to the ground." Alan said.
Edgar placed his hands on his hips. "They attacked us. We were defending ourselves!"
Sam turned his head towards them, "Guys. You're not helping. He's scary and gonna kill us just shut up."
Alan held up a cross in fear. "No more murder!"
Michael pulled David back to his side. "How 'bout we all go home and get some rest then regroup later?"
"What?" Sam asked. "What are you talking about, Mike?"
"It's too late for this fuckwittery."
"Big word." Sam said. "Sounds British."
"We should probably talk about it now though." Star stepped forward. "So we killed Marko, Dwayne, and Paul... What do we do about Max?"
Sam, Edgar, and Alan looked at her. "Max?" They questioned in unison.
"Oh so David didn't say anything..." She looked over in the direction of Michael and David, prompting them to answer the question.
"Max is the head vampire." David answered.
"Oh." Sam said simply. "We thought you were."
"Really?" David asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Sorry, it's an honest mistake."
"Whatever man." Michael said, grabbing David's hand and pulling him away. "Max is bad, David's not all evil, the other's are dead, goodnight." He was too tired for this shit. "Go home. All of you."
"Michael what-"
"I'm going to bed Star. I've had enough blood and death tonight. Kill more people tomorrow please." He let go of David and disappeared up the stairs.
"Diva." Edgar said, looking at where Michael had been.
Alan nodded along with him. "Agreed."
David looked at Star. "So have you chosen immortality or...?"
"Not relevant right now David." Star said rubbing her forehead.
"We need to clean up." Sam announced. "Mom's gonna be back soon."
It took a while, but everything was basically back where it had been. That was good enough in Sam's opinon.
David had gone after Michael and hadn't reappeared once, Sam didn't want to go looking.
Star had left, probably going on a walk or something. She'd said she was getting some fresh air. Not his problem.
Edgar and Alan laid on the ground, whispering conspiracies.
Peace. At last.
