Chapter Text

The silence was deafening, David hated it.

Dwayne

Marko

Paul

Gone. All of them.

His brothers, his family, dead.

Killed by three little kids full of hatred.

Max was dead. David was free at last.

So why didn't it feel like that?

Michael.

Where was Michael?

David's eyes searched wildly for him, finding Michael laying on the ground by the coffee table, unconscious.

The house was destroyed, he didn't care.

He wanted his brothers back.

Sam and his little friends were somewhere else in the house with Star, probably celebrating their victory.

David felt anger rise. Hatred for the people who took his family, for Max who had made him this way.

Michael shifted on the ground, finally waking up. "Wha-" His vision was blurry but he recognized the person standing near him. "David?"

"What?" David asked angrily, he crossed his arms, gripping himself tightly. Maybe it was supposed to be comforting, or not, he didnt know.

"I'm sorry." Michael said simply, standing and stepping closer to David.

"It's fine. I'm fine." David spat, looking at his boots.

"Still, David I-" He cut himself off with a sigh. "It was a mistake. I freaked out and all this happened because of me."

"It-it's fine. Not a big deal." David chuckled humorlessly, he bit his tongue to stifle a sob.

Michael took David's hand in his own, sensing his distress. "How about we go talk somewhere quiet?"

"Okay."

He was pulled up the stairs to Michael's room, being instructed to sit on the bed. Michael sat next to him, laying back against the headboard, beckoning him closer.

David moved, reluctantly, towards Michael, sitting closer than necessary.

No one spoke for a while.

Eventually Michael said something.

"I'm sorry."

It came out of nowhere catching David off guard. "What? Why?"

"...killed your brothers. 'm sorry." Michael sat up, looking at him with sad eyes. "It's okay if you're mad."

"I am mad, yes, but not at you." David stroked Michael's cheek. "It was your jackass brother and his friends." He sighed, looking away. "T-they killed them." His voice was quiet, more vulnerable.

Michael wrapped his arms around David slowly, bringing him in. "It's okay to miss them. You don't have to be emotionless."

David hated the tears behind his eyes, hated feeling this way.

"Davey... you have to let it out some time. Don't bottle it up." Michael kissed David's forehead. "You gave me a chance to belong, told me I didn't have to feel so alone. I told you that I wanted someone to listen, to make me feel whole, to guide me home. You gave me that. And I know things didn't turn out the way they were intended, I'm glad I was able to be you guy's friend for the little time we had. I am sorry that your brothers are dead, our friends, and I wish I could go back and change the outcome but I can't." He wiped David's cheek as the first tear fell. "I can't promise that it's going to be okay now, but I can say that you are not alone, I'm here, let me repay the favor, let me comfort you."

David's face crumpled, giving up at masking his feelings. "I-I..." He let out a sob.

"C'mere honey."

He held tightly to Michael, gripping his shirt as tears fell. "Michael-"

"Shhh, it's all gonna be alright." His voice was soft.

Hands ran up and down David's back, Michael's chin pressed to his temple as he cried.

Michael wasn't used to this softer side of David, he had grown accustomed to the snide remarks, the teasing, the laughter. This was different, the David he knew didn't cry, didn't whine when he tried to pull away, didn't whimper and cling tightly to him. Maybe this was still David, a part of him that he hid behind his careless persona.

Michael shifted, laying fully down on the bed, pulling David with him. David was asleep before Michael, probably due to the fact he had been crying for however long. Michael followed suit, drifting off after pressing a kiss to the cold skin of David's forehead.

-

It was still dark when David awoke, sunrise was near he knew it.

Pushing himself out of Michael's grasp he went over to the window, opening it. He took one look at Michael's sleeping form then climbed out the window, floating before he shut it again.

David knew he had to move or else he'd be toast but a few more seconds of staring at Michael couldn't hurt.

He floated outside the window for a few moments and flew back to the ironworks

Sweet dreams, bright eyes.

-

Going back to the ironworks hurt more than it should have.

Walking through that entrance brought up so many memories.

Of Dwayne.

Of Marko.

Of Paul.

Of all of them. A brotherhood. A tight-knit family.

Shit.

He had told himself he wouldn't cry again.

Seeing how everything was where it had been before, like everyone would be back soon and they just left for a while.

"This sucks..." David mumbled as he kicked a table leg. He sat on the couch and rested his head in his hands, taking deep breaths to calm himself down.

David knew he shouldn't spend more time moping about his brothers. They wouldn't want him to be sad anyways.

"Fuck you guys..." David sniffed. "Left me by my lonesome huh? Think you're so funny..."

God he was going crazy. Who even talks to dead people? They can't hear you.

He felt his eyes grow heavy, the sun was rising. Falling back onto the couch David fell asleep again, silenty wishing things would go back to normal.

Wishing. Wishing. Wishing.
