Yoongi wasn’t sure exactly when it first happened, maybe a few months ago, but it never seemed like a big deal to him or Seokjin.
“She has a crush on you, hyung,” Yoongi teased when he and Seokjin entered their room.
“No she doesn’t,” the other sighed, “She’s just very friendly.”
“Yeah ok sure,” he responded with a raised eyebrow, “Oppa doesn’t like younger girls?”
“Shut up,” the older said before he picked up a pillow and threw it at the other. “And don’t call me that, it’s creepy.”
“But Oppa,” Yoongi whined and Seokjin let out a yell before he grabbed the pillow and began to hit him. Yoongi laughed until Seokjin jumped on top of him.
“Okay, I surrender,” Yoongi said as he raised his hands in defense. “Sorry,” he continued but when Seokjin got off him, he grinned. “Oppa,” he repeated. Seokjin cursed but left him to his devices in favour of going to the kitchen to find something to eat.
A few days later.
“There she is,” Yoongi whispered to his hyung. “Oppa, look, it’s your girlfriend,” he said in a mocking tone and Seokjin shoved him away.
“Shut up.”
“But Oppa-“
“Yoongi!” he scolded when said woman walked up to them with a smile. She asked about their days and sent them a bow before she was called away by someone else.
“What’d I tell you?” Yoongi mumbled and Seokjin rolled his eyes.
After that, Yoongi couldn’t help himself. He got a kick out of making Seokjin embarrassed and calling him that seemed to do it. He didn’t really notice when it got to a point where he said it so naturally. Probably after a couple months.
“Oppa, I’m hungry,” Yoongi whined when he collapsed in his bed. Seokjin puffed up his cheeks at the term. “Make something.”
“Yah, respect your hyung,” Seokjin said but he stood up to cook food anyway.
-
“Oppa, you left your phone at the studio,” he teased before he tossed the phone at his roommate.
“Yah! Careful!” Seokjin yelped but didn’t fail to catch it. “Don’t just throw things like that.”
“Sorry, Oppa,” he stressed the latter word and received a glare in return, though not without his face turning slightly pink.
“Thanks,” Seokjin muttered and Yoongi just grinned.
-
“C’mon, Hyung, you can do it,” Yoongi said softly. Seokjin sighed as he stared at the microphone in front of him. “Take a break?” he asked and the older nodded.
“I just can’t hit that note today,” Seokjin whined when he sat next to the rapper.
“Hey, just rest for a bit and we’ll get back to it okay?” he said as he patted the other’s shoulder.
“I guess I’m just tired.”
“Oppa just needs to relax,” he added and Seokjin shoved his shoulder. His face was red at the sudden use of the word.
“You need to stop,” he said with a sigh.
“What? Why?” Yoongi asked with a grin, “Is Oppa getting embarrassed?”
“Yah!” the eldest yelled as he shoved the other’s shoulder yet again. Yoongi shot a smile in return and the other just shook his head.
Present Day.
“Yoongi-ah, could you pick something up for me?” Seokjin called from the kitchen. Yoongi walked into the area to find Seokjin in front of the stove, Jungkook and Hoseok helping him while Jimin sat on the table with Namjoon and Taehyung.
“Why can’t the others go?”
“They’re all doing something important,” Seokjin said before he shoved his wallet into Yoongi’s hands.
“Oppa,” Yoongi whined when the eldest continued to recite what they needed.
“Be a good dongsaeng,” he responded, “Oppa needs more ingredients,” he included and Yoongi rolled his eyes. He missed the days Seokjin would turn red at the use of the word.
“Fine,” he said but then noticed the strange atmosphere in the room. Everyone seemed to have stopped what they were doing and were openly gaping at the pair.
“What?” Yoongi said, furrowed brows and Seokjin turned around.
“Did you just,” Namjoon started and looked at the other’s shocked expressions, “Did you just call him Oppa?”
Suddenly, the whole room went quiet and Seokjin widened his eyes before he looked back at Yoongi who had an equally baffled expression.
“I should go get food,” Yoongi said quickly.
“Yoongi!” Seokjin yelled when the other practically sprinted out of there. He turned around to find the rest of the members still staring at him in shock.
“I’m just gonna go with him,” he said awkwardly. “Make sure the house doesn’t burn down,” he added before he basically ran out the dorm after his roommate. He managed to catch up to him halfway to the convenience store.
“Yah!” Seokjin yelled and Yoongi turned around, face red and distress evident in his face.
“That was so embarrassing,” the younger muttered as he kept walking. Seokjin grabbed his arm.
“And whose fault is that?” he said with an equally red face, “I told you to stop doing that!”
“Well, you responded just as weirdly,” he said and Seokjin bit his lip.
“I got too used to it,” he said with a pout.
“Oh God, that was so embarrassing,” Yoongi repeated and kicked the air. “I feel like my image has been ruined.”
“It was just the boys?” Seokjin said, somewhat conflicted.
“How are we gonna explain this to them?”
“I mean, it’s not like we’re admitting we have some weird oppa kink right?” Seokjin said and Yoongi scrunched his face up. “Wait, you don’t have one do you?”
“Hyung!” he yelled before he shoved him away.
“I mean, it’s not a big deal really,” Seokjin reasons, “We can just tell them what happened?”
“I guess,” Yoongi said before they walked into the convenience store.
“Listen to me, Oppa knows best,” Seokjin said before he met eyes with the cashier who had a shocked expression on her face. “Oops.”
“Hyung,” Yoongi said as he lowered his head and pulled his hood over him in embarrassment.
“What’s wrong? Is Oppa embarrassing you?” he said loudly and Yoongi threw a hand over his mouth.
“What the fuck, hyung?”
“Listen, this is just payback for all those times you made me embarrassed.”
“What if someone hears and recognises us?!”
“No one else is here and everyone who works here knows better,” he said smugly.
“Well, fine then, if you don’t care so much,” Yoongi said as he threw back the hood and crossed his arms. “What did you want us to buy, Oppa?” he said, stress on the last word, as if he laced it with honey. “Does Oppa have a list for me?” he continued and Seokjin widened his eyes before he placed both hands over Yoongi’s mouth. They both glared at each other until the sound of the door opening caught their attention.
“Hyung?” Jungkook called out as he walked in, followed by several other boys.
“Great,” Yoongi muttered under Seokjin’s hands. “You can stop now,” he said and Seokjin lowered his hands. “Oppa,” he said one more time.
“Okay, that’s enough,” he said as he pushed Yoongi further away from the voices of their friends.
“Well, Oppa should probably think twice about calling himself that in front of all these people,” Yoongi said louder than usual.
“Oppa was trying to prove a point,” he said in response and then they were back to glaring at each other. After a few seconds of useless staring, they heard Hoseok call out to them.
“We swear we’re not judging you,” Hoseok said awkwardly, “I mean what goes on in the bedroom is none of our business.”
“He’s making this worse,” Seokjin said with wide eyes and suddenly Yoongi was laughing. The eldest was surprised at the sudden outburst but eventually found himself laughing along with him.
“This is stupid,” Yoongi said, “I think we need to explain things,” he said when the other continued to call out more assumptions they really shouldn’t be in such a public place.
“Agreed.” As the pair walked towards them, Yoongi stayed quiet up until they could see the rest of the members.
“You’re the best, Oppa.”
In about two seconds, the members were dumbfounded when a running Yoongi zoomed past them, Seokjin on his heels with the word ‘Oppa’ being thrown between them in a very not friendly way as they exited the convenience store.
It’s safe to say that when they got home, all was explained no one’s image was ruined. Except Yoongi’s when Jungkook made it his mission to catch said rapper calling their hyung Oppa on video. Eventually everyone got used to it but if one day, one of the members let it slip during an interview, well that’s a whole different story.
