Chapter Text

Seokjin graduates from college on a Thursday. It's an anticlimactic end to his youth, according to Yoongi, who is a year younger and who's been his roommate for the past three years.

"Sorry I missed the ceremony," he tells Seokjin on the phone. There's only silence afterwards, and Seokjin has come to know, after years of studying Min Yoongi, that he is not going to give him more information on the subject.

"It's okay," Seokjin says. The ceremony was long and it was unbearably cold for a February day. Seokjin spent half the time worrying about his parents joints. They were not young anymore. "It was boring."

Yoongi makes a noise that sounds like a low hum and that it's probably the sound he makes whenever he's thinking of something. It sounds different over the phone. Seokjin stares at the different piles of clothes on his bedroom floor and remembers why he called Yoongi. "Do you think it'd be cold in Japan? I mean, as cold as here? I thought I was going to freeze to death today."

There's the noise again, then Yoongi's grunt voice. "I have no idea, hyung. Google is your friend. You know I've never been outside of the country."

When he first met Yoongi, Seokjin thought him rude and an ass, but as time passed, he realised blunt and curt was Min Yoongi's language. He didn't mean it in a bad way, he just went straight to the point.

"Do you think a box of wada calcium cd3 will be enough for two months?" Seokjin takes the pills out of the box and examines them; they're just plain and white, like aspirins but a bit bigger.

Yoongi's laughter also sounds weird on the phone. "Why on earth would you take those, hyung? Are you a freaking fish or something?"

"No, I'm just forever bitter about the fact that my hyung is six centimetres taller than me. I need to grow taller."

"You're 26. You stopped growing a while ago," Yoongi says curtly. Damn him and his matter of fact responses.

There's a loud thud and then shuffling noises on Yoongi's end. "Yoongi?" Seokjin stays still, he holds his breath so he can listen to what's happening at the other end of the line a bit better. "Are you okay? What happened?"

Then there's Yoongi's voice again, sounding far away from the receiver. "Jesus God, kid!" He says, not to Seokjin, obviously. "Are you trying to kill me?"

Seokjin breathes again, maybe it was Yoongi's puppy. But he's proven wrong when he hears Taehyung's voice loud as a thunder, "Yoongi hyung! I'm here!"

That puts a smile on Seokjin's face. Taehyung is such a happy-go-lucky guy, and Yoongi is such a grumpy little man, and whenever Seokjin witnesses them interacting, he can't help but be amused at how weird of a friendship theirs is.

"Were you on the phone, hyung? Who are you talking to?"

It's a bit confusing, just listening to the sounds on the phone. But Seokjin imagines Taehyung and Yoongi fighting over it.

"Hello, Seokjin hyung!" Taehyung yells a bit too close into the microphone. Seokjin takes his mobile away from his ear.

"Yes, hello. Please don't be so loud, I don't want to go deaf before I even start enjoying my graduation gift." By graduation gift, Seokjin means money from his parents. Money that he will use to travel to as many places as he can before the hellish job applications begin. He knows he needs to take his time, do things at his own pace, and he's grateful his parents are not pressuring him into getting a job right away.

Taehyung chuckles, then adds, loudly, "Hyung! Tomorrow is D-day! Are you all packed and ready to go?"

"Taehyung-ah, I know you're excited, but please don't yell in my ear."

When Seokjin asked Yoongi if he wanted to come with him, he wasn't expecting Taehyung to take the offer instead. "Sorry, hyung. I'm still a broken college student," Yoongi said lamely. He forgot to mention he had used his savings to buy one of those fancy music equipments.

"I'm sorry, hyung," Taehyung says not sounding sorry at all. "I only came here to ask for Yoongi hyung's opinion, uhm..." he trails off, Seokjin's used to Taehyung doing this now; not finishing his sentences, trailing off before he finishes what he was saying. Before, it was a bit infuriating. "I forgot what I wanted to ask him. But I'll wait for you tomorrow, hyung! Goodbye! I love you!" And with that he does something that sounds as if he were smacking his lips against the phone. Seokjin still catches Yoongi's gruff voice, scolding him for making his screen all dirty, before he hangs up.

Seokjin's left with the sound of Taehyung's kiss in his ear, and the piles of clothes and language books scattered across his bedroom floor.
