Summary
In 2563, the Sangheili (Elites) had existed as an independent entity for over ten years. They had beaten down Covenant loyalist movements and presented a friendly but intimidating face to humanity. Human perception of Sangheili was mixed, with many still fearing the deadly warrior race, while others were intrigued by their strength and strange ways. Out of this tense political climate came an enormously popular erotic novel written by unknown Martian author Z. N. Ophelia, originally published on the chatternet as "Zealot of the Galaxy", a derivation of existing novel "Dawning Day" by Esteban Mayer. Within three years, "Fifty Shades of Purple" topped best-seller lists all over UEG-controlled space, including Earth and Mars, selling over 70 septillion copies. Critical response was mixed, with many decrying the book's perceived poor understanding of the English language. A holofilm adaptation produced by Morgan Terry-Weiss, of "GlobeWar" fame, was released in 2566, only increasing the book's popularity.
