Work Text:
"Fuck," Yoongi huffs out through his panted breaths. "I'm not sure I'm going to survive this weekend."
He collapses onto the bed next to Jeongguk, blinking dazedly up at the ceiling. The action makes the mattress bounce a little. Jeongguk supposes that he should get onto the bed as well, but he's finding it way too much of an effort to move from his current position bent over the side of it.
"Your inner grandpa is showing again," Jeongguk teases, finally gathering enough strength in his legs to climb onto the mattress. He buries his face in the covers, feet dangling off the edge.
"Fuck you," Yoongi sighs, sounding quite exhausted. He swats at Jeongguk's bare behind with the towel he just used to clean them both up.
"You already did," Jeongguk grins as he lifts his head up. "Twice."
Yoongi grins too at this, tilting his head so that they're facing each other. Jeongguk leans down and brings their lips together, a sweet touch at odds with the rest of their morning.
Morning sex with Yoongi tends to mean slow and lazy. Jeongguk likes it that way, getting lost in drawn out, languid touches and deep, sleepy kisses. Jeongguk's not sure if it's the excitement of coming home on leave or the time pressure of only being here for two days. Whatever the reason, from the moment Yoongi woke him up with hot kisses and urgent touches this morning, Jeongguk knew it was going to be a lot more frantic than usual.
Jeongguk likes it that way too, of course. Yoongi does too it seems, and not even an hour after their first session Jeongguk somehow found himself bent over the edge of the bed as Yoongi stood behind and fucked him to his second orgasm of the day. And it isn't even 10am yet.
“Shower?”
“Just-“ Yoongi holds up one finger. “Give me another minute.”
Jeongguk chuckles and leans in again, capturing Yoongi’s mouth in a far deeper kiss this time. Yoongi’s lips part under his immediately, letting the younger take the lead as Jeongguk licks gently into his mouth. Yoongi sighs happily into the kiss and it sends a wonderful shiver of contentment along Jeongguk’s spine.
He’s missed this so much. Okay, so he’s doing well in the military. A lot better than Yoongi did, that’s for sure. But god, he truly misses being here, being with Yoongi. Nothing makes him happier.
He feels bad sometimes about how well he’s doing in his service, to know that he’s breezing through something that Yoongi struggled so bitterly with. It was tough at first, especially once the sergeants realised that they had an idol in their ranks. Jeongguk's first days of training were brutal, singled out for a lot more than the others in his troop, those higher up keen to put him in his place.
He’s pretty sure that they didn’t expect Jeongguk to take on every task without complaint, and he’s certain that they didn’t expect for him to excel at everything presented to him. He loves a challenge and he loves proving people wrong, and slowly Jeongguk has become one of the favourites on their base. He tries to keep his achievements from Yoongi – though he’s fairly sure that his mom keeps him updated - because Jeongguk knows how much the elder detests the whole system. Jeongguk does too, of course; he’d give anything to be at here with Yoongi instead. But whereas Yoongi’s defence was to challenge everyone around him throughout his entire service, Jeongguk decided instead to beat them at their own game.
As much as he gets a strange enjoyment out of testing himself physically every day, he simply aches to be back home. Where he should be; getting woken up every morning by Yoongi’s kisses rather than by barked orders. This is where he belongs. He pulls back, dragging his lips very softly along Yoongi’s jaw before mouthing at the shell of his ear.
“Come on,” he breathes quietly. “I’ve missed showering with you.”
Yoongi sighs at this and Jeongguk can feel him relenting. Yoongi waits another few seconds before slowly sitting up and running a hand through his hair. He looks all kinds of ruffled, his hair a fluffy mess and lips red from kissing. Jeongguk leans in and nips him lightly on the shoulder.
Jeongguk takes a moment once they get in the shower to let the warm water cascade over him, simply enjoying the comforting sensation. Warm showers are a novelty on base, seeming to alternate between scalding hot and freezing cold. He leans back against the wall, eyes closed. They open slowly when he feels long fingers stroking over his sides and soft lips trailing along his neck. He smiles at Yoongi who smiles tenderly back and it makes Jeongguk feel like his heart is caught in his throat. He presses his lips into Yoongi’s hair, curving his arms around the small of Yoongi’s back.
“I think about you all the time you know,” he murmurs into the damp strands.
“Do the other guys on base know what a sap you are?” Yoongi asks playfully, teeth scraping ever so gently just beneath Jeongguk’s jaw.
“Whatever,” Jeongguk grins. “I bet you think about me all the time too.”
Yoongi huffs out a small laugh. “I guess you cross my mind on occasion.”
Jeongguk grins and pulls Yoongi closer, their chests pressed together. It feels so nice and Jeongguk closes his eyes again, taking his time to fully enjoy the moment. He feels searching lips against the corner of his mouth and he instinctively angles his head so that Yoongi can easily slot their mouths together once more. Yoongi’s tongue licks at Jeongguk top lip before sliding inside, the kiss slow and deep.
The sound of the doorbell ringing cuts through the moment but they both choose to ignore it. They’re not expecting company and there’s no way Jeongguk’s leaving this for some salesperson at the door. He switches their positions, Yoongi’s back pressed to the wall this time. One of Jeongguk’s hands leaves the small of Yoongi’s back, dipping down to grab lightly at Yoongi’s ass instead. He takes a moment just to appreciate feeling that again before sliding it down to the back of Yoongi’s thigh, lifting his leg gently so that it’s hooked over Jeongguk’s hip.
The doorbell rings again. There’s a short pause in their ministrations, both of them clearly wondering who it is, but the feel of Yoongi’s body, wet and pressed right up against him, distracts Jeongguk almost immediately. They start kissing again, Yoongi letting out a soft whimper as Jeongguk’s tongue curls around his own. Jeongguk’s really not had long enough to recover since their last session, but that doesn’t stop the flickering need building gradually in him.
“Fuck, I’ve missed you baby,” Yoongi murmurs into the kiss, his arms looping around Jeongguk’s shoulders.
Jeongguk’s about to reply when the doorbell rings for a third time. They both pull back, sharing the same look of concern. Someone clearly wants to speak with them. Jeongguk wonders if maybe it’s something to do with his leave; god, he hopes he isn’t going to be called back to base for some reason.
“I’m just gonna check who that is,” Jeongguk tells him. “I’ll be right back.”
Yoongi looks a little put out but he nods anyway. Jeongguk steps out the shower, grabbing a towel and starting to dry himself off. He considers getting changed but then the doorbell rings a fourth time and he panics. He wraps the towel around his waist and hurries down the stairs. By the time he reaches the hallway there’s an urgent knocking at the door too. Jeongguk checks that his towel is in place before cautiously opening the door, peeking his head around. His stomach plummets and he fights the urge to throw up.
“We were starting to think that the doorbell was broken.”
Jeongguk swallows thickly, forcing an awkward smile onto his face as he stares at Yoongi’s mom. Not just his mom, but Yoongi’s dad and brother too, and a tiny baby. He just keeps staring, not knowing what to say, head still peering round the door to try and hide all the skin he has on display.
“Sorry, uh, I was in the shower,” he says.
“Do you have clothes on?”
Jeongguk blinks a few times at the abrupt question. He certainly knows where Yoongi gets his bluntness from.
“Uh, yeah?” Jeongguk replies cautiously. “Kind of.”
“Well, could you invite us in then please?” she requests, though it sounds like more of an order. “It’s roasting hot out here.”
Jeongguk nods and steps back, allowing the three – well, four – of them to step inside. He inclines his head respectfully as they do so, ridiculous as it may look in his current get up. This is really not how he saw his morning going. He was thinking perhaps round three with Yoongi once they’d both recovered a little. Definitely not him standing in front of Yoongi’s family dressed in only a towel.
“I thought you were away on service?” Yoongi’s dad asks. Jeongguk has the distinct feeling that he wishes Jeongguk was still far away.
“I’m on leave,” he clarifies. “Just for the weekend.”
“Well, we’re sorry to disturb,” his mom continues, though she doesn’t sound too sorry. “We were just visiting family friends in Seoul and thought that it might be a good opportunity for Yoongi to meet his nephew.”
“Oh yes, of course,” Jeongguk stammers. “Congratulations. On the baby.”
“Thank you,” Yoongi’s brother replies, voice a lot softer than his parents’. “We haven’t seen Yoongi in a while and I thought he might like to, you know, meet this little one.”
Jeongguk purses his lips and feels like something’s stuck in his throat. He knows very well that he is the reason that Yoongi doesn’t see his family so much these days. His parents have come to accept their relationship, but things are still uneasy between them and Yoongi. Jeongguk’s pretty sure that he’s the last person they wanted to see today.
“Where is Yoongi?” his dad asks. “We’ve not missed him, have we?”
“No, he’s just in the shower-“
An awkward silence settles over all of them and Jeongguk only realises what he’s said once it’s too late. It’s now very clear that Jeongguk and Yoongi were showering together, and apparently busy enough to not answer the doorbell. Shit, shit, shit. No one seems to know what to say.
“Mom? Dad?”
Yoongi’s slowly making his way down the stairs, jeans and a t shirt thrown on. His eyebrows are furrowed in confusion as he takes in the sight of his family standing there and Jeongguk still dripping wet in his towel.
“Ah, there you are,” his dad comments once Yoongi gets to the bottom step. “We were in the area and thought we’d drop by. Seonghun thought you might want to meet Junseo.”
“Oh. Right,” Yoongi blinks, still seeming as though he’s taking it all in. He shakes his head a little like he’s snapping back to the conversation. “That’s, uh, great. Come into the lounge.”
“I’m just going to go-“ Jeongguk begins, nodding his head towards the upstairs of the house. Jeongguk catches the wide eyed look of panic that Yoongi throws his way and Jeongguk tries to look as sympathetic as he possibly can whilst in the middle of his own storm of anxiety.
Jeongguk dresses as quick as he can without looking scruffy. He runs his palms over his increasingly fluffy hair, still drying from the shower. He knows that he needs to go back downstairs, needs to play a good host –anything to get Yoongi’s family on his side. It’s not the first time that they’ve met; there was that horrifically awkward few minutes after a concert a while back when he was introduced but basically ignored, that left Jeongguk trembling with nerves for ages afterwards. He wants this time to go better.
But he’s never met them when it’s just him and Yoongi, and certainly never in his own house. It’s all so unexpected and Jeongguk’s heart is racing. He knows it’s a good thing that they want to visit Yoongi and he starts to regret choosing this weekend for his leave; if he’d known, he would have let them spend time alone together rather than getting in the way. He smooths down the front of his shirt, taking a couple of slow, calming breaths before he heads back downstairs.
When he enters the lounge everyone is chatting in a somewhat stilted manner. Yoongi’s dad is asking questions about the house, and about the small studio built onto the side. Good, at least he’s taking an interest in something. Jeongguk sits down self-consciously in the space next to Yoongi on the couch. He stays silent as they ask a little about Yoongi and Namjoon’s production company that they’ve set up recently. It’s going very well so far and Yoongi’s dad nods in approval at this.
“Um, how is everything in Daegu?” Yoongi asks tentatively when a lull in the conversation appears. Junseo gurgles quietly from Seonghun’s lap.
Yoongi’s mom takes over at this point, launching into detailed accounts of what everyone has been up to. Even Holly has a full update. Family members, neighbours, friends – she seems like the sort of person who likes to be in the know about everything. Jeongguk wonders if that’s part of why she reacted so badly to Yoongi coming out; whether it was the surprise element, of not seeing it coming.
“I was talking with Kim Wonjun’s mother the other day,” she says, snapping her fingers as something in another story seems to remind her suddenly. “Him and his wife are having another baby soon. He’s just acquired another business actually, they’re doing very well.”
“That’s good,” Yoongi says tonelessly.
His mom sighs. “It’s such a shame that you two fell out,” she reprimands. “You were always joined at the hip and then- nothing.”
“Teenagers,” his dad chuckles quietly, and the sound of laughter feels very odd in the room.
Jeongguk glances over at Yoongi whose face is impassive. Yoongi doesn’t really talk much about his childhood, apart from snippets here and there. Jeongguk knows that he had a small group that he used to rap with; he supposes this Wonjun was one of those guys.
“They live in Seoul now,” she continues regardless. “Perhaps you could get back in touch. I know Mrs Kim would like that a lot.”
“No thank you,” Yoongi says, rather tersely.
“It might be nice to have another friend here,” she persists.
“I have plenty of friends here,” Yoongi replies firmly. “No thank you. Sorry to disappoint Mrs Kim.”
Jeongguk’s eyes drop down to Yoongi hand, which is curled into a tight ball by the side of his thigh. Jeongguk frowns slightly as Yoongi’s mom sighs. She starts talking about something else, drawing everyone’s attention in a different direction.
It suddenly hits him just who Wonjun must be; he could be wrong, but something in Yoongi’s tense demeanour gives Jeongguk the horrible feeling that Wonjun was the high school ex Yoongi has mentioned previously. It makes him tense up too at the thought of that guy being anywhere near Yoongi again.
He wants to reach out and take hold of Yoongi’s hand, loosen the fingers and lace his own through them, but he knows that would not be the best idea in current company. He continues to sit quietly as Yoongi’s mom talks away. From the way Seonghun is looking around the room distractedly Jeongguk feels like he has probably had to sit through this story plenty of times before. He catches Jeongguk’s gaze and offers him a small smile. The action is so unexpected that Jeongguk doesn’t have time to gather himself and return it.
“So Jeongguk, how are you finding your military service?” Yoongi’s dad asks during a brief gap in conversation.
Jeongguk’s eyes widen a little in surprise at not only being acknowledged, but some sort of interest being shown in his life. He supposes that his military service is something that Yoongi’s dad understands and feels safe talking about.
“Are you causing as much trouble as this one did?” his mom adds.
She nods in Yoongi’s direction and it would sound rather rude if it wasn’t for the odd touch of fondness that just about trickles through it. The tone sounds weird coming from Yoongi's mom like that. As though she's somehow conflicted by her distaste over his actions but finding it a tiny bit sweet at the same time. Like it’s something so very Yoongi.
“I wasn’t trying to cause trouble,” Yoongi huffs. “I just hated it. It’s so unnecessary in a modern society and-“
“Yes, yes, we’re very aware of your views,” his dad interrupts before Yoongi can go on much longer. Jeongguk thinks that he sounded rather like Namjoon for a moment there.
“Um, I mean, I hate being away from Yoongi,” he begins tentatively. He knows that’s probably not the best way to start but he’s not going to sit here pretending as though he is okay with being apart for so long. “But I’m doing okay I think.”
“He’s doing better than okay,” Yoongi says, cutting him off. “He’s earned loads of medals and certificates since he’s been in service.”
“I wouldn’t say loads,” Jeongguk denies bashfully, his cheeks warming a little.
“Loads,” Yoongi confirms, ignoring Jeongguk’s protest.
“Oh really?” Yoongi’s dad says, looking genuinely interested. It startles Jeongguk. “What were they for?”
Jeongguk nervously starts to talk through some of the things he’s been awarded for. It’s not much really; just a few ‘best in class’ type deals, some achievements in combat training, and a random one he got for saluting a general's helicopter flying overhead. He'd actually been doing it sarcastically to make one of the other officers laugh but a nearby sergeant saw it and took it as sincere. He doesn't mention that part here. Yoongi’s dad seems impressed. For the first time since they knocked on the door Jeongguk feels the tiniest bit of tension slip away. He tries not to get too settled though.
“Where is your base?”
Jeongguk tells him and gets a nod of the head that looks something like approval. Jeongguk knows why. His base is in the mountains, right along the armistice line. It gets freezing cold there, living conditions are tough, and patrols are round the clock unlike most. He feels a tad jealous of Seokjin and Taehyung's military stints during the winter. Both of them did their service on bases in the much more temperate climate of the south.
“That’s tough,” he nods again. “None of us wanted to be posted there even in my day.”
He laughs a little again and once more it sounds oddly jarring. Its a welcome sound though and Jeongguk would happily put up with this awkwardness over open hostility. Junseo starts whining quietly, stirring from where he had almost fallen asleep against Seonghun’s chest.
“Junseo agrees,” Seonghun says and smiles a little.
“How many weeks old is he now?” Yoongi asks tentatively, as though nervous of conversing with his own brother. It makes Jeongguk's stomach clench awfully.
Seonghun starts talking about the baby but Jeongguk zones out a little. Partly because he has no real interest in talk about babies, but mainly because he is still recovering from an interaction with Yoongi’s family that wasn’t totally terrible. In fact, it was almost verging on positive. He feels like he’s glowing.
He catches sight of Yoongi’s mom looking around as they talk. He sees as her eyes settle on a framed photograph placed on one of the shelves. It’s buried amongst other photos and trinkets they’ve collected over the year but he knows that is what she’s looking at.
It was taken not long after Jeongguk’s niece was born. It’s of Jeongguk’s family, taken in their back yard during summer. Yoongi is pressed into his side as they all smile at the camera, everyone laughing at Jeongguk’s dad’s terrible attempts at using a selca stick to take the picture. Yoongi looks like part of the family, which he most definitely is. Jeongguk wonders what she’s thinking. She gives nothing away, staring with that same impassive expression that Jeongguk recognises as so similar to Yoongi’s.
“Mom’s loving being a grandma,” Seonghun says lightly. “Spoils him way too much and he's still a baby. I dread to think what happens when he gets older.”
Jeongguk struggles to imagine Yoongi’s mom cooing and fussing over a baby but perhaps this detachment is a side of her that only comes out because of Jeongguk. He sees glimpses of something else sometimes, little moments of warmth that flicker in her expression when she looks at either of her sons, but it’s gone just as quick. Jeongguk feels terrible that this layer of iciness is probably entirely down to him.
“Yes, it’s nice to have grandchildren around,” she says pointedly.
Jeongguk truly isn’t sure if she realises quite how cutting her comment comes across, an obvious dig at himself and Yoongi not being able to provide her with any. A moment of something like guilt crosses her face but she doesn’t offer an apology, simply diverts the conversation onto something else. Stubborn like Yoongi too.
“Would you like to hold him?” Seonghun asks.
For an absurd moment Jeongguk thinks it’s directed at him before he quickly realises that he’s talking to Yoongi. Yoongi instantly waves his hands dismissively in front of his chest.
“No way, I’ll probably break him.”
“You won’t break him,” Seonghun laughs lightly. “I felt the same at first but it’s fine once you get used to it.”
“I don’t know,” Yoongi says nervously.
“Oh come on, you have to hold your nephew,” Yoongi’s mom says. It sounds direct but there’s a gentler note in there too, buried deep but still detectable.
“Fine,” Yoongi huffs, apparently keen to divert any extra tension. “But like, tell me what to do.”
Seonghun laughs quietly again and stands up, heading towards Yoongi. Yoongi visibly flinches, retreating back into the couch cushions. It’s almost comical but Jeongguk tries not to chuckle and ruin the family moment. Yoongi cradles his arms awkwardly and lets Seonghun place Junseo in the space.
“Just try to keep his head supported.”
Yoongi stays stock still, as though terrified to move a muscle. His eyes widen in fear, convinced he’s about to do something wrong.
“You look like you’re holding a grenade,” Yoongi’s dad comments and it brings the hint of a smile to Yoongi’s mom’s face.
“You looked just the same when you held Seonghun after he was born,” she reminds him.
“Fair point,” he admits.
The conversation sounds almost lighthearted, if a little forced, but Jeongguk’s happy to take that. Yoongi’s mom gets out her phone, wanting to take a photo of Yoongi and his brother, with his nephew. The way Yoongi’s frozen in place makes Jeongguk think it may be the most incredibly awkward looking photo and if he was close to Yoongi’s mom he’d ask for a copy to tease Yoongi with relentlessly.
“Uh, would anyone like a drink?” Jeongguk asks, using the chance to excuse himself and leave them all alone for a bit, even if just for a couple of minutes. Yoongi’s dad requests a coffee and his mom a glass of water, so Jeongguk quickly darts into the kitchen.
He’s waiting for the coffee to brew on Yoongi’s fancy new coffee machine when he hears footsteps approaching. He expects for it to be Yoongi checking on him but is surprised to find Seonghun standing there instead, leaning against the doorway.
“Do you need any help?” he asks.
“No, I think I’ve got it,” Jeongguk says. “Though I have no idea how this thing works really.”
Seonghun lets out a low chuckle and then silence falls over them. Jeongguk’s not sure what to say so just stares down at his feet. When he looks up Seonghun’s staring at the front of their fridge. At their bills left to pay this month; a finger painting by his niece that is supposed to be of Yoongi (Yoongi acted offended due to it being a messy ball of squiggles but Jeongguk thinks he was secretly touched); a photo of him and Yoongi with Jimin and Taehyung taken on Jimin’s last birthday.
“I’m sorry about everything.”
Jeongguk blinks a few times in surprise and Seonghun continues.
“I know none of us acted right when Yoongi first told us about you. I tried to be supportive but, well, if I’m honest I just didn’t understand it,” he sighs. “Why a man would want to be with another guy. I know that's probably really homophobic but that’s how I felt. I felt like I didn't know my little brother anymore, I didn't know how to act around him and- ”
He sighs again, cutting off his rambling words. He traces his index finger around the outline of a fridge magnet, a kangaroo wearing a big hat with corks on that Seokjin brought them back from filming a section of a movie in Australia.
“Like, I get it now. You make my brother really happy and you have this whole life together,” he continues. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t more supportive from the start and that it's taken me so long but, you know, I want to make amends. And I’m sorry that mom and dad are so-“
He waves his hands around like he can’t find the right words and gives up.
“I just wanted to say I’m sorry about it all.”
Jeongguk nods and wets his lips. “Thank you but- shouldn’t you be saying this to Yoongi?"
“I will,” Seonghun assures him. “I want to do it properly though. I thought bringing Junseo here today might have been a starting point. I really wasn’t expecting mom and dad to come along too but- I think they kind of wanted to see Yoongi as well, even if they didn’t say so outright. We’ve all been so distant these last years and it’s not right.”
Jeongguk nods again and the coffee machine dings to let him know that the coffee’s ready. He takes hold of the mug along with the glass of water.
“Well, I’m sure Yoongi will appreciate the effort,” he smiles reassuringly.
Seonghun smiles back sadly, as though aware of the hurt that he’s caused to Jeongguk too. He reaches out and squeezes Jeongguk’s shoulder tightly with his hand. He doesn’t say anything more, the gesture conveying his apology and his will to set things right.
When they walk back into the lounge Jeongguk hands out the drinks and sits back down on the couch. He chances a glance over at Yoongi and feels- well, he feels odd.
Yoongi’s relaxed a touch, leaning back against the couch a bit more. He’s holding a conversation with his mom that, although not flowing particularly easily, is a lot less forced than it has sounded before on phone calls Jeongguk has overheard.
The conversation isn't what’s made him feel weird though. It’s just something about the way Yoongi sits there with his nephew in his arms. In their home. It simultaneously makes Jeongguk want to run straight out the front door and at the same time envelop Yoongi in a crushing hug.
It’s not like he sees Yoongi and gets a sudden yearning to have kids with him. Not that Jeongguk didn’t ever not want kids but it’s certainly not something that’s crossed his mind properly. Kids have always remained very hypothetical, almost like discussing what kind of superpower you’d choose if you could. He knows that some of the guys would like it; Taehyung has always yearned for a family and since being in his thirties Seokjin’s started to show a lot more interest in settling down.
Jeongguk though? It’s not something he’s particularly bothered about. And it’s not that he’s bothered now, looking at Yoongi cradling his nephew with such care, but-
But he doesn’t know what. Something unfamiliar and warm trickles through him, a feeling that he can’t quite put his finger on. Yoongi turns to look at him and catches his gaze. Jeongguk immediately blinks and turns away, feeling his cheeks heat up from the way he was staring.
Yoongi’s parents stay for a while longer, enough time to finish their drinks and hold a bit more of a conversation about Yoongi’s work. Eventually Junseo starts wriggling too much and Yoongi gets nervous and asks Seonghun to take him back, making the elder brother laugh. It makes Jeongguk smile internally. Min Yoongi, can face down a multitude of shit that comes his way without trouble, yet a tiny baby leaves him an anxious wreck.
They all say their goodbyes and Jeongguk doesn’t exactly get a hug but Yoongi’s mom touches her hand to his forearm in farewell, and Yoongi's dad claps his hand down on his back and wishes him luck in the rest of his service. Seonghun gives him a smile and a nod goodbye.
The pair of them walk into the lounge afterwards, a little stunned. Yoongi collapses down onto the couch and rubs his hands over his face. He tugs Jeongguk towards him, bringing the younger down to lie next to him on the cushions.
“Did that really just happen?” he checks.
“Yep,” Jeongguk tells him. “I think it went- okay?"
Yoongi sighs and nestles into Jeongguk’s side, breath fluttering over his neck. His arm gets slung over Jeongguk’s chest.
“Weirdly enough, I think so too.” He presses a gentle kiss to Jeongguk’s shoulder. “Sorry you had to deal with that. I know you don’t get hardly any time away from base and-“
“It’s fine,” Jeongguk assures him.
Yoongi gives him a low noise in response that tells Jeongguk that he isn’t entirely convinced but he doesn’t push it any further. They lay there quietly like that for a long time, as though needing space to decompress after the surprise visit. Eventually Yoongi props himself up on his elbow, tipping his head down so that his lips meet Jeongguk’s.
“I love you so much,” Yoongi breathes against him. “You know that, right."
“Those hearts in your eyes kind of give you away,” Jeongguk whispers back. He gets a sharp whack against his shoulder for that and it makes him smile.
Yoongi’s phone buzzes from his pocket and he takes it out, squinting at the screen. He reads whatever’s on there and a soft smile slowly spreads across his lips, eyes shimmering happily.
“Seonghun wants to go out for dinner next week,” Yoongi tells him, clearly trying to hold back the excitement in his voice.
“That’s great,” Jeongguk grins.
Yoongi allows himself a few more moments of getting lost in his happy smile, obviously overwhelmed by having Seonghun reach out to him properly for the first time in ages. Sure, they’ve still been in contact over the years but this is different. Jeongguk knows it and Yoongi does too. Finally he catches himself.
“He better fucking take me somewhere nice,” he states and Jeongguk laughs quietly.
“McDonalds not gonna cut it?”
“Not by a long shot.”
“Damn, there goes my idea for our next date night,” Jeongguk teases.
“I’d go anywhere, so long as it was with you, baby,” Yoongi says back, being deliberating sappy and over the top in order to make Jeongguk scrunch up his nose in disgust. Yoongi chuckles quietly once he gets the desired reaction.
“You’ll regret saying that,” Jeongguk warns him.
“Don’t doubt that.”
Jeongguk just grins and pulls him back into another kiss. Their tongues meet softly, gently gliding against each other in the heat of their mouths. Jeongguk positions Yoongi a little so that he’s laying draped over him. It’s comforting and reassuring and Jeongguk loves it, the feel of Yoongi’s solid form pressed into him.
“So how do you feel about round three?” Jeongguk asks, wiggling his eyebrows.
Yoongi grins widely and it’s all the answer he needs.
