Get ready for International Fanworks Day (IFD)! On February 15th, we will once again come together from all corners of fandom for the 11th annual IFD celebration. IFD was created in 2014 in honor of the one-millionth fanwork on AO3 to recognize and celebrate all forms of fanwork – fics, art, podfic, zines, and more – as vital parts of fandom.
This year's IFD theme Fan Communities are Ecosystems honors this idea of diversity in fandom and expands on it: not only are there many kinds of fanworks, there are also many ways people engage in fandom: reading, commenting, working on fan wikis, creating art, writing, and more! Diverse fans working together creates unique ecosystems of fandoms and we want to celebrate that with you this year. From now until IFD, we will be hosting several activities we encourage you to participate in:
- Take part in our Feedback Fest and rec your favorite work related to (fictional) communities and social dynamics. Or recommend something you believe has impacted your fandom's ecosystem! Interested? Look for our Feedback Fest post on February 13th!
- Tag your own works on AO3 centered around fan communities with our International Fanworks Day 2025 tag!
- Share your experience with fandoms as ecosystems on social media using the tag #IFD2025 or #IFDChallenge2025
We are looking forward to seeing your contributions! Of course, if you want to participate in another way, you are free to do so as well.
