Chapter 8: Parties and Planning

Notes:

Hey y'all. Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I applied for an internship thinking it would be part-time, but it ended up actually being 40 hours a week. I've been so exhausted and so I had to put writing on the back burner. My internship ends in a few weeks and my workload is already decreasing. I can't make any promises, but I'll try to update more frequently.
So, thank you guys so much for sticking with the story! Enjoy :)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Katsuki couldn’t help but feel like he was walking on air. Only a few days had passed since he and Deku decided to open up their own agency. It was a shit ton of work, but he didn’t mind. It felt like they were four years old again, constantly talking about their plans for becoming hero partners. Deku had already filed the paperwork with the commission, and he was looking at a few offices to put a deposit on. Katsuki hadn’t really been joking when he said Deku would have to pay for it all, so to make up for his lack of monetary contribution, he took care of everything with Hawks and the apartment.

Hawks wasn’t all that surprised when Katsuki told him he was leaving to go work with Deku. The bird bastard just chuckled and waved him off like he already knew the blonde was going to quit. It was the amount of paperwork that was giving Katsuki trouble. His workload had increased by double, and since he would be gone in two weeks, he had to make sure it was all done on time.

Still, Katsuki couldn’t bring himself to regret leaving despite how exhausted he was. He knew it was the right choice. Sometimes the nerd would get so caught up in his thoughts and would start to doubt himself, but Katsuki was there to reassure him each time. The nerd’s doubts only made the blonde more confident in his decision, since it was proof that Deku needed him there to make sure he wouldn’t die of anxiety.

Other times though, Katsuki wanted to smack the shit out of the nerd. Like right now.

“That’s the stupidest fucking idea I ever heard!”

“Stupidest isn’t even a word, Kacchan!”

“Yeah it fucking is! Look it up in the dictionary and the definition will just be a picture of your face!”

The nerd stuck his tongue out which was probably his version of flipping Katsuki off. “We need to come up with an agency name and I think D2 is a good name.”

“No it’s not, motherfucker,” Katsuki argued back. “It sounds too nerdy.”

“Well, I am a nerd.”

“But I’m not!”

The self-proclaimed nerd huffed and crossed his arms. “Fine,” he conceded. “We’ll decide on one later, but the commission needs it as soon as possible. Let’s work on something else.”

Katsuki looked over at the clock and sighed. It was nearing ten o’clock and they hadn’t eaten dinner yet. They had started working on plans for their agency as soon as they got back to the apartment. It was too late to cook something healthy, and honestly, Katsuki was too wiped from patrol to even attempt making dinner.

“Nah. We’re done for the night, nerd.” He walked over and plucked the papers out of Deku’s hands. “Let’s go get something to eat.”

“But Kacchan!” Deku tried to argue, but Katsuki ignored him and dragged him off the couch. He waited by the door as the nerd grabbed a jacket and pulled on his shoes. After they walked out, Katsuki locked the door with the custom key Deku had given him. Like always, he couldn’t help but smile softly when he looked at it. The smile stayed on his face as they made their way outside into the cool night air.

“So, where are we going Kacchan?” The nerd asked as they walked side by side.

Katsuki hummed. “Just to the convenience store on the next block. I don’t feel like going too far.”

Deku nodded in agreement. “We’ll need to find time to go to the store this week, too.”

“I told you I would take care of all the shopping.”

“Yeah, but we’re having the party on Saturday. We need to get snacks and drinks and stuff.”

“Ugh.” Katsuki honestly forgot about the party. With how busy things had gotten, a stupid party was the last thing on his mind. “Do we really have to?”

The nerd looked over at him horrified. His cheeks were bright pink, no doubt because of the cold, and Katsuki thought he looked quite cute like that. “We already invited everybody over, Kacchan! They’re all so excited. It’s been forever since the whole class met up. We can’t just cancel!”

“Why not?”

Deku elbowed him playfully. “Because, I was thinking we could announce our agency. Come on, Kacchan. Don’t you want to brag about it to all our friends?”

Now that was something Katsuki could be excited about. “Fine. We’ll have the stupid party.”

Izuku laughed but didn’t say anything else. He slowly drifted closer to Katsuki as they walked, so close that he could smell the nerd’s shitty apple shampoo. Several times, he had to resist leaning over to get a bigger whiff.

Katsuki was glad when they finally arrived at the convenience store, and the temptation to be creepy was gone. They each picked out some instant ramen and a couple snacks before paying and walking back out. Katsuki held the bag the plastic bag in one hand and put his other in his jacket pocket. The cold was starting to make his fingers go numb. He subtly looked over at the nerd to see if he was having any problems. With how many times he broke his fingers and arms, Katsuki knew the cold could sometimes cause him pain.

He was glad he checked because the nerd was frowning slightly down at his hands. He brought them up to his face and tried to breathe some warmth into his fingers. Before Katsuki could change his mind, he grabbed Izuku’s hands with his free one and then moved them into his own jacket pocket. The nerd’s hands were ginormous compared to Katsuki’s own, but he did his best to cover the scarred and rough fingers.

“Tch. Buy some fucking gloves you damn nerd,” Katsuki chided, though he didn’t dare look over at Izuku. He hoped the nerd would think the bright red on his cheeks was just because of the cold and not because of his heart now fluttering in his chest.

Izuku was silent for a few moments and just let himself get pulled along. Eventually, he squeaked out “Okay, Kacchan.”

Neither of them spoke again as they strolled through the empty streets. It was only when they got back to the warmth of the apartment that Katsuki let go of Izuku’s hands, leaving his to feel incredibly cold and empty.

---

Kirishima was on patrol when he got a call from Bakugou. He was a little surprised that he hadn’t received the call sooner. He knew his oblivious friend was working through his feelings for Midoriya, and god bless him, but Bakugou could be an idiot when it came to the green-haired hero.

“Hey, Bro! How’s it going?”

I need to talk to you. Can we meet up for lunch?”

“Sure! Meet at our usual place at noon?”

Yeah. See you there.”

Kirishima smiled down at the phone after Bakugou hung up. Straight to the point as usual. He just wished Bakugou could be like that with Midoriya, but a hero couldn’t have everything in life. It was a good thing Kirishima could be patient.

He arrived at the Gyudon place right at noon. Bakugou was already waiting at the counter when he got there, so he sat down next to him.

“I need your advice, shitty hair.”

“What? No ‘hello’ or ‘how are you?’. You just insult me and expect me to help you?” Kirishima teased.

“Yeah, yeah.” Bakugou said, waving him off. “I need to talk to someone.”

“Someone that isn’t Midoriya?”

The blonde glared at him but didn’t say anything which only confirmed his suspicions.

“Okay. Let me guess.” Kirishima cleared his throat for his best Bakugou impression. “I’m just so in love with that damn nerd and I think the best way to tell him is to punch him in the face.”

Bakugou slapped him on the back of the head. “Cut that shit out or I’m going to punch you in the face.”

“Was I close?”

Again, Bakugou said nothing and Kirishima grinned.

“So, you finally figured out what kind of love your feeling?” He asked, going to take a sip of water.

“Well, considering I jacked off to the nerd and we’re opening a hero agency together, I’d say yeah,” Bakugou said casually, and Kirishima promptly choked on his water.

“Wh-what?” He coughed out. “Could you repeat that?”

“Nope.”

Kirishima took another drink, careful not to inhale it this time. “How the hell did that happen?”

“Well, I was beating my-”

“Not that part!” Kirishima hissed, looking around the restaurant to make sure no one was eavesdropping. “I meant that part about opening up a hero agency together.”

Bakugou huffed. “Deku made it into the top fifty and the fucking commission is pressuring him into opening up his own agency, and since we both kick-ass together, I told him that I was coming with. Only he didn’t want to have to be my boss, so I decided we’d just both be the boss. Problem solved.”

Kirishima could only gape at his best bro. Not only had he offered to go with Midoriya, but he was giving up his dream of being an independent hero. The man sitting next to him was such a far cry from the boy in high school who would do anything to be number one, the boy who was determined to do everything on his own.

Before he could stop himself, Kirishima threw his arms around Bakugou. “That’s so manly, bro!”

“Get. The. Fuck. Off.” Bakugou growled as he tried to pry the red-head off.

“I’m just so proud of you, man.”

Bakugou huffed but stopped trying to rip his arms off. “Whatever. Let’s just eat and get out of here.”

Kirishima finally let go. “Fine, but we still have to talk about what we’re gonna do about your crush.” He wiggled his eyebrows teasingly at the blond.

“No the fuck we don’t!”

“Then, should we talk about it at the party?”

“Absolutely not!”

“Okay,” Kirishima smiled. “So, it’s settled. We’ll talk about it now.”

Bakugou scowled. “What do we even need to talk about? I got my feelings and shit all figured out.”

“That was only part of the problem,” he explained. “Now, we gotta figure out how you’re going to confess to Midoriya.”

The blonde was silent for a few moments. “Should I even confess to him? I mean, we’re opening up an agency and shit. That kind of thing could get in the way.”

Kirishima looked at his friend, and he could see the insecurity practically bubbling underneath his skin. Stuff like that could easily get in the way. Mina and he weren’t even in the same agency and yet their relationship still had an effect on their work. But then again, this was Midoriya and Bakugou. Even when all they could do was fight and yell, their teamwork with impeccable. They always managed to get things done despite whatever went on between them.

“I think there’s nothing that could ever bring you two apart,” Kirishima told him honestly. “Deku and Dynamight are two heroes who will always manage to save the day, no matter what happens between Bakugou and Midoriya. Even if it doesn’t work out in the end, which I don’t think would happen, it’ll only make your relationship stronger.”

Bakugou didn’t respond for a few minutes. Even when their food arrived, he just dug in without saying anything. Kirishima didn’t speak either, letting Bakugou sort through whatever was going through his mind.

It was only after Kirishima finished half of his bowl that Bakugou finally spoke up. “Fine.”

“Fine?”

“Fine. We can talk about ways I can tell the shitty nerd that I like him.”

“Perfect!” Kirishima grinned and pulled out his phone. “I’ve already been thinking about different ways for you to confess and I wrote them all down.”

“What the fuck?” Bakugou asked, incredulously.

He ignored the question and went straight to his list. “Number one, you write a song and sing it for Midoriya at the party.”

“No!”

“Number two, you hire a plane to fly a banner that says ‘Deku makes my heart explode’”.

“Take this shit seriously, shitty hair,” Bakugou growled and tried to swipe the phone out of his hands.

Kirishima gasped dramatically, setting his hand over his heart. “These are serious suggestions, Bakugou.”

“Like hell I’m going to write a fucking song and sing it for the nerd!”

“Okay, okay,” he conceded. He scrolled down the list to where he wrote down some actual advice. “Mission Dick Down Deku is beginning.”

Kirishima wasn’t able to get out another word before an explosion was set off in his face. He decided teasing the human bomb anymore probably wasn’t a good idea. So with that, the two began discussing actual ways Bakugou could confess, and by the end of their lunch, Kirishima was positive the two idiots would be together before the party this weekend. Well, almost positive.
