Ravens Flock to the Water

Chapter 4: Sibling Antics

Chapter Text

Master Jean was in her office as usual, rubbing her temples to try and quell a headache. Had she been drinking enough water today? Not to mention her joints were really acting up. Maybe she had been pushing herself too hard lately.

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

“JEAN?” Said an agitated voice from outside the door.

Oh dear, it was Barbara. Jean knew what this was for.

“Come in!” She shouted.

The door opened and Barbara haughtily walked to Jean’s desk and tossed a parcel on it.

“Four days, Jean. Four days!! And you haven’t come to pick up your medicine!!”

“Look, Barbara, I have a lot on my plate right now-“

“Excuses, excuses! Mondstadt needs a leader who’s capable of caring for herself properly! You’re lucky to have me around to bring this you know!” Barbara scolded.

Jean sighed and started unwrapping the package.

“I am capable…it’s just easy to forget, I guess.”

Jean opened the glass bottle and threw back a pill and chased it with cold leftover coffee from that morning.

“Thank you, Barbara.”

Then Jean paused a moment.

“…is that lipstick smudged on your face?”

Barbara gasped. She hurriedly wiped her face with her hand. On her fingers, clear as day, was smudged lipstick.

“And nobody said anything??” Barbara huffed.

Jean leaned closer with a deadly serious look on her face.

“Who is it? Is it a boy? Is it a fan?” Jean interrogated.

Barbara flushed a deep red.

“Grrr no Jean!! Not that! It’s…Fischl.”

Then Jean started snickering.

“Pfft. That girl with the bird from the Adventurer’s Guild? The one who talks like a fantasy novel??”

Jean broke out into full on laughter, wheezing like a dying horse. Barbara crossed her arms.

“Oh hush you big oaf!” Barbara said. “At least my electro girlfriend is cooler than yours!”

“What electro girlfriend?” Jean asked.

“Oh come onnnn I’ve heard the way you gush about Miss Lisa!” Barbara replied.

Then it was Jean’s turn to start blushing.

“Shh!! Keep it down! We aren’t even really dating you know!” She hissed.

Barbara laughed. The best thing about being Jean’s sister was that you get to poke fun at the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius.

*knock knock*

“Oh Jean~” said a fruity voice.

Uh oh, it was Lisa.

“Ooooooo~” Barbara said.

“Shut it- Um! Come in!” Jean said.

Lisa came leisurely walking in.

“Oh well if it isn’t the sisters~.” She said.

“What’s the issue Lisa? Theft? Violence? Stormterror?” Jean asked.

Lisa gave her an amused smile.

“It’s Stormterror??” Jean exclaimed.

Lisa laughed.

“Goodness, Jean! You’ll burst a blood vessel! No there’s no problem. It’s getting late in the day. Can’t a concerned librarian just come check on her friend?” Lisa asked.

Barbara smirked at Jean. Jean countered with the meanest death stare she could muster.

“And what brings little Barbara in today?” Lisa asked.

“This blockhead!” Barbara said as she pointed to Jean. “She went four whole days without coming to get her pain medicine!”

Lisa leaned against Jean’s desk.

“Tsk tsk, Jean. You really should take better care of yourself.” Lisa said.

“I knowwww.” Jean whined.

“Why don’t you ask me to pick it up for you next time? I’d be happy to help.” Lisa offered.

“No, Lisa I couldn’t do that…” Jean said.

“You’d ought to take the offer, Jean.” Barbara said. “If you really are too busy to get something as important as that.”

Jean decided she’d steer the conversation elsewhere.

“Why don’t you tell Miss Lisa what we were just talking about, Barbara.” She teased.

“Jean!!!” Barbara exclaimed.

“Well, well. What could be getting Sister Barbara so worked up?” Lisa asked.

“She’s dating Fischl.” Jean said bluntly.

“You!!!” Barbara growled.

Lisa clapped her hands together. “Oh how wonderful! I wish you two all the best.”

Barbara sighed. “I suppose you would know more about this than I do, Lisa. How do you make sure you do well in a relationship?”

“Love her, cherish her, and make her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.” Lisa said, while shooting a look at Jean.

Jean looked away and tried to pretend she wasn’t paying attention.

“Well, I figured that…but how do you know that you’re good enough?” Barbara asked.

Lisa gasped. “Barbara, HONEY.”

“Barbara you are good enough!” Jean said.

“She’s right!” Lisa said. Then she leaned down to Barbara’s level.

“If anything, that girl had better make sure she appreciates you.” She said seriously.

“I think she does.” Barbara said.

“Fantastic.” Lisa said.

“Well, I suppose I had better get back to the church…busy day and all.” Barbara said.

“I have to get back to work too! I need to put in orders for new weapons.” Jean said.

“You haven’t left your office all day! The other knights are already going home. Won’t you come have tea with me?” Lisa asked.

“Yeah Jean, go for it.” Barbara said with a wink.

Jean sighed. “Very well, see you later Barbara.”

“See you!” Barbara said cheerfully.

There was a strange couple in Mondstadt. Barbara, the famous idol, and Fischl, one of the Adventurer’s Guild’s biggest weirdos. People often whispered about them in taverns and alleyways. Why those two? What was their deal? Do they fit together at all? Barbara and Fischl didn’t care. When life got to be too much, they could always count on each other.

Notes:

There is not very much content for Fischl and Barbara anywhere, and they are my favorite rarepair. So therefore, I wrote this. I had less material to go off of than with other characters so it took me a while. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed this cheesy shoujo romance fic.
