Chapter Text

“Do you have your tissues?” Inko asked as she walked with her son to the door of their apartment, who was getting ready for the first day at highschool.

“Yes mom! You’ve asked me this about a thousand times!”

“I know, I know. I’m just so excited for you! I- I know I haven’t been the most supportive of your dreams, but right now I promise I’ll be your number one fan!”

Izuku smiled at her, happy about her change of attitude with his dream.

“Also, don’t worry about that silly rule they have. You’ll be great!”

That was the one thing he was the most scared about. He had worked so hard to get here, but what if that was all taken away because of a quirkist teacher. Then what? Would they allow him to rejoin if he proved himself in the festival? He didn’t know, but he knew he couldn’t worry about that now. Right now he has to go to UA for his first day!

So he waved goodbye to his mom and set off for the school of his dreams.

He definitely was nervous about school. From experience he knew how bad it could be. So he hoped that this time it would be better.

Although, it started off with a rough start, so he didn’t know what to expect.

He just took that thought out of his mind and began to make his way over to the train. This was a new start for him. He was going to the top hero school with one of the lowest entrance rates in Japan. He was gonna go to school and make lots of friends. Maybe that kind girl in the Entrance Exam would be in his class.

He just hoped that Kachaan and the kid with the glasses from the entrance exam wouldn’t be in his class…

Other than that, this day was gonna be amazing!

—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The minute Midoriya walked through the big 1A doors was when he realized that maybe this day wasn’t going to be amazing.

He had just finished navigating his way to the classroom, (he hadn’t realized how big UA was, so that led to him getting lost and having to be told by the heroine Midnight!) When he heard familiar yelling inside the room.

He took a deep breath and opened the door to his worst nightmare. Both Kachaan and the kid with the glasses were there! Even worse, Uraraka was nowhere to be seen!

He just walked over to an empty seat and sat down, trying not to garner any attention to himself.

“ Remove your foot from this desk immediately!. You are insulting all of the past students of UA who have used that desk! Even the people who made this desk would be insulted!” Midoriya heard the kid with the glasses shout at Kachaan, whose feet were on top of the desk. He looked annoyed at the kid and looked like he was about to yell, like always.

“Like I care, you extra!!!”

“That is very rude! Do you wish to become a hero with that behavior!”

Just then, the kid with the glasses noticed Midoriya and made his way over to talk, or maybe lecture. He didn’t really know.

“Hello, I am Tenya Iida! I am from Somei Private Academy!” Iida put his arm out for a handshake and waited for Midoriya to respond.

So he quickly took Iida’s hand and shook it, still feeling a bit nervous.

“I-I’m Izuku Midoriya and I’m from Aldera Middle School. I-It’s nice to meet you.”

Then, Iida’s face got more serious than before and he began to speak, looking a bit ashamed.

“I must admit Midoriya…I misjudged you. You discovered the true nature of the exam, while I did not. I hate to admit it, but you out did me.”

Midoriya smiled and quickly added to Iida’s statement.

“I didn’t discover anything, but thank you! I was impressed by your performance in the practical as well!”

Iida gave a little smile and Midoriya took this as a sign that he might just have made a friend!

“That curly hair! I would know it from anywhere! It’s plain boy!”

Both Midoriya and Iida turned around to see the brown haired girl standing right behind them. Iida began his introduction, but she cut him to the quick and began talking to Midoriya instead.

“You got in! That makes sense because of how you took down that big robot!” She was swinging her arms around and Midoriya was furiously blushing. He felt a bit embarrassed about all of the attention.

“W-Well I really should be thanking you for speaking on m-my behalf and all!”

The girl grinned and began to talk at a fast rate that Midoriya could barely comprehend.

“If you’re here to make friends, then get out” a deep voice said. They both turned around and saw some random person on the floor in what seemed like a sleeping bag.

“It took you 8 seconds to quiet down. Time is very precious here in the hero course.”

Was this their homeroom teacher? This guy hadn’t looked familiar to Midoriya and he knew just about every hero. So who was this guy?

The guy then pulled out a uniform and addressed the class, “I’m Aizawa Shouta, your homeroom teacher. Now get into your gym uniforms and meet me outside. Now.”

Everyone grabbed a uniform and bolted for the changing rooms, not wanting to be the last person outside.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aizawa was waiting for all of them once they got into their uniform. He seemed to be the strict type. It was really bothering Midoriya that he couldn’t remember who this hero was though.

“Now that everyone is here it is time to begin your first test as hero students”

Everyone instantly became worried. Midoriya hadn’t thought that they would begin testing yet, but that’s UA for you. They couldn’t really expect them to know much though since they had just started, so maybe it was easy?

“We will be holding one of the standard gym tests that they probably did at your middle schools.”

Then Aizawa got a big shit eating grin and added, “Except you’ll be using your quirks. Due to this, whoever performs the worst will immediately be expelled”

Now everyone was panicking, but they really had nothing to worry about. They all had wonderful quirks to help them. Midoriya had nothing. The only other person who might be in a similar situation would probably be the invisible girl.

He couldn’t believe that he might just get expelled on the first day.

Then Midoriya realized something. Doesn’t UA have to be fair to all people and quirks? Not everyone had physical quirks, so there had to be some sort of loophole. How had their homeroom teacher worded it? ‘Whoever performs the worst will be expelled’. So that could mean if Aizawa had thought someone hadn’t used their quirk to its fullest extent they could have performed badly.

This might just work. Of course, this was a theory with little evidence. It was also all he had at the moment so he would take it.

So he took the tests and got to see everyone’s quirks in action. One kid with multiple arms absolutely dominated the strength test. Midoriya thought he did fairly well on that test, getting 56 kilograms. So at least he did better than his middle school score!

Some of the other kids weren’t performing well either! He did better in the strength test then the invisible girl and the kid with the purple balls on his head.

The rest of the tests went by as normal. Then came the ball throw. He knew this was the last one and that made him nervous. He felt that this was really where he would have to be impressive.

So each kid took their turn, each score better then the next. The girl who had saved him had even managed to get Infinity!

Then it was his turn. He quickly stepped up and took the ball. He was about to throw it, when his hand was suddenly held back by some sort of white cloth.

He looked to his side and saw Aizawa’s eyes glowing with his hand on the cloth.

Suddenly, Midoriya finally knew what hero Aizawa was.

“Eraserhead” he whispered, or maybe not since he saw Eraserhead raise his eyebrow, as if he was surprised on how he knew that information.

He couldn’t believe his teacher was the Eraserhead! Besides All Might, Eraserhead was one of his favorite heroes. His quirk was to erase other quirks, which basically made his fight quirkless. Seeing Eraserhead for the first time actually encouraged Midoriya to be the first quirkless hero. Because if Eraserhead could be a hero while fighting quirkless, who said he couldn’t?

“I thought I’d tell you to put your hardest into this throw. Everyone else here had been working hard to get a good spot. So what about you?” He then released Midoriya’s hand and let go of his quirk. (Which he didn’t really know why he used it, considering he was quirkless. Maybe a force of habit?)

Midoriya picked up the ball again and just stared at it. Eraserhead thought he hadn’t been working hard, but he had! Hadn’t he? He thought he had put his all into it, but he hadn’t really done anything that could be considered outstanding. Everyone was putting their all into this with their quirks, but what did he have to give?

Nothing. Like always he couldn’t do anything. He was either too weak or just quirkless.

Except, he couldn’t just give up. He did the impossible by making UA quirkless. He never took the easy road, so why start now? He just had to do what he did best. Analyze.

He knows that UA is known for being pretty fair to all quirks so they probably wouldn’t allow the teachers to just expel anyone because their quirk wasn’t suited to the exercise. Or was that what they wanted? Anyone’s quirk can be applied to anything if you have the right idea. So what could he use to apply this newfound knowledge to his situation?

He knew he couldn’t kick the baseball, but he used to play a bit of baseball. He only learned it because he saw it on an episode of his favorite All Might. He basically begged his mother to get him a bat, glove, and baseballs. She used to play baseball with him all the time before she had to pick up more shifts for work. He was pretty confident of his skills as well.

Looking around he tried to find something that could be used as a bat. He then saw it. It was in a bin that was leaning on the schools walls. It was a bat, which seemed a bit suspicious considering that UA wasn’t really known to have sports.

“Mr. Aizawa, do we have to necessarily throw it? Also can we use some outside help?”

Aizawa just stared at him, but Midoriya swore he could see a smirk in those eyes.

“You don’t have to throw it if you could use your quirk in a different way. You can use something out of the circle, but you can’t ask anyone to throw it for you or use their quirk on the ball.”

Hearing this, Midoriya quickly walked over to the wall and took the bat. He made his way to the circle and got ready to call on whatever strength he had left.

He threw the ball up and got ready to hit the ball. He had to do this for his mom. For his dream of saving people and being a beacon for everyone who was quirkless.

The bat makes contact with the ball and it goes soaring in the air. It definitely went farther than if he threw it, so he just hoped that it would be enough.

He turns to Aizawa and sees his score. He got a 406.

Seeing this, he gets out of the circle and back into the clump of his classmates. He feels like celebrating! Unfortunately, he is pretty sure that if he did Aizawa would use his capture scarf to throw him out of UA’s grounds. Literally.

After everyone was done with the throw, they made their way over to the side of the building where Aizawa was standing holding a remote.

“Alright, here are the scores”. Then the scores appeared on the holographic screen.

Midoriya scanned through the names, trying to find his. He started to get to the bottom and he was getting nervous. He just hoped that he would not find his name at the very bottom.

Just then he spotted it. It was second to last! He did it!

“Mineta” Mr. Aizawa said, looking down at the boy with the purple ball hair, who Midoriya had to assume was Mineta.

“Meet me in my class before school ends. We’ll need to have a little chat about your score”.

Midoriya felt bad for Mineta. Actually, maybe not considering the fact that he was a massive perv. He saw how Mineta tried to grab many of the girls, so he was rather relieved that he might get expelled.

But he did it! He didn’t get expelled. He still had to get through the rest of the year without any incident, but how hard could that be?
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aizawa noticed All Might stalking in the bushes since he got outside. You would think that the number 1 hero would know how to go unnoticed, but he was as quiet as an elephant.

Then again, he was a spotlight hero who made money off of being heard so it all adds up.

He would also have to teach his class how to be more aware of their surroundings. If they last that long, that is.

He was actually quite impressed with this bunch of kids this year. They just might have what it takes. Well, besides that Mineta kid. He saw those looks he was giving the female students and he did not want it to continue.

But back to All Might, who still hadn’t noticed Aizawa, which may be a good thing considering he is an underground hero.

“Do you normally stalk classes” Aizawa said in his monotone voice, which managed to scare the number 1.

“Young Aizawa! I-I was just…uhm… checking out the hero students before my first class!”

Aizawa could see that lie from a mile away, but he had to be logical if he thought what might be the real reason All Might was here.

“Well, you could have just looked at their files or watched the entrance exam tapes if you wanted instead of being creepy. Now excuse me, I have to go prepare for my classes”. He began to walk away, but All Might quickly caught up to him, unfortunately.

“I actually have another concern in mind that I wish to talk to you about.”

Aizawa stared at All Might, waiting for him to continue.

“Yes, what is your concern.”

“Well, I noticed that Mineta actually got last. I don’t know if you realized your mistake, but Midoriya actually should have gotten last.”

Aizawa sighed. He could already feel a headache coming on from this annoying interaction.

“No, there was no mistake made. Mineta got the least amount of points. Midoriya got higher, so unless you can’t count, you can clearly see who would get last and be expelled.”

“I think you misheard me, Young Aizawa. Midoriya is quirkless so he couldn’t have gotten many points!”

“Well you are wrong, because it doesn’t matter if you have a quirk or not. The test was to see who could use their surroundings to act quickly in a situation where a quirk would not have been useful. Midoriya succeeded in that, other than Mineta, who didn’t even try.
All Might frowned. “Well, to be honest, I think you purposely put Mineta last so Midoriya wouldn’t be expelled, isn’t that right!”

Aizawa began to chuckle at how idiotic this dufus was. Could he not see why Mineta had failed and Midoriya succeeded?

“All Might, I am not one to play favoritism and I’m sure by now you know that. If you looked closely you could see that Mineta’s main focus here was to inappropriately touch and harass our female students. So you can see why, with his scores and attitude, he would be expelled.”

“Aizawa, you gave an opportunity away from a bright, quirked, student and gave it to someone who won’t last a week! You can see how wrong this is!”

Oh. Now he was mad. All Might had pushed his buttons.

“I will not sit by and watch you be quirkist to another student here. That is against UA policy and I will contact Nedzu about this behavior. Every student here has been proving themselves. Now, excuse me, but I must get ready for my classes.”

Aizawa then began making his way back to his classroom, far away from All Might who had finally gotten smart and decided not to follow him.

Midoriya was actually quite promising from what he saw. The kid had managed to find the bat that Nedzu had left there and use it. No one else had thought of that, or they were just too dependent on their quirks, which he would have to fix soon.

In fact, all of these students were impressive. He’d never admit it to anyone, but it was true. They each had potential and weren’t as boastful with their quirks as his previous classes had been.

Well, except for Bakugou. He was just very obnoxious with his quirk, but the kid knew what he was doing. Bakugou would probably get put in his place once the Hero Studies begin.

But All Might might pose a problem considering he was quirkist and might make things hard. Luckily, Nedzu didn’t seem like he would get rid of Midoriya so that was a pro. The con was that All Might was, well All Might. He had influence. Even though he couldn’t have a say in Midoriya’s place in UA, he could convince others who did.

He didn’t feel like thinking about all of that though. Midoriya was gonna be a real problem child this year. He could just feel that this year he was gonna need a lot more coffee to make up for his lack of sleep.
