Chapter Text

Sonic woke up to Silver absent from the couch. He had offered to sleep on the floor last night and after small convincing and insisting, Silver admitted defeat.

The blue blur looked around Tails’ house, checking the closet, under the table, and outside the house that resembled his brother’s face. Sonic rushed over to Tails’ room next, opening the door and squirming inside. To no surprise, the kitsune was already awake and working on something at his hand built crafting table.

“Hey bud where did Silver go?” Sonic couldn’t help but ask.

Tails perked up his ears and turned to face his brother, answering after a short pause.

“Oh, we woke up around the same time, but he said he needed to go back to the future for a bit. He didn’t wanna wake you so he told me to tell you he said bye.”

“Oh,” Sonic muttered, almost disappointed.

‘Why am I so sad about that? It’s his job after all… I never really ever worried about it before either…’ He found himself thinking, the faint sadness in his eyes catching Tails’ attention.

“Don’t worry I asked him to come visit soon if the future’s doing alright. You both seem to have been hanging out with each other more recently anyways.” Tails reassured, flicking his tails upwards, his hands resting against his side unless he spoke up again.

“Oh, well…” Sonic thought of some smug reply, “We just recently found out we have a lot in common that’s all.” He smiled, exaggerating his shrug as he turned his eyes from Tails.

“If you say so,” Tails smiled back, turning back to his work. The room fell silent for a few short moments, Sonic still grasping onto the disappointment of Silver leaving, it controlled his mind now. He tried to comprehend why the news upset him. He was so used to Silver leaving after he dropped by from time to time to save the present, why was this time, why would these next few times, cause small aches in his chest.

“Are you gonna go for a run like you always do or stand there looking at the pages of blueprints attached to the wall?” Tails asked to snap Sonic out of his daze. The blue blur blinked a few times, realizing his stance, his expression.

“Right right, I’m leaving now, practically out the door as we speak,” Sonic muttered, “Catch ya later pal!” He called before speeding out the door.

“What’s up with him?” Tails couldn’t help but lightly ask himself, he hardly ever saw Sonic distracted like this. He slowly thought about it before turning back to his project on the craft table.

“It’s probably something. There’s a high chance he might come back talking about it anyways.”

———

The blue blur dashed around green hills, running through loops and curves with ease. While his footing was quite fluent and movement graceful, his face was anything but peaceful.

‘Oh man, Sonic you gotta distract yourself somehow or someone’s gonna see you like… this. Whatever this is exactly.’ He thought to himself again, the corners of his muzzle lighting up ever so slightly.

Sonic quickly turned around, diverting from his usual path. The hero returned to the dandelion fields, rushing between the patches, seeds once again pulled from their stems as they whipped around the blue hedgehog as he skidded to a stop in the middle of the field. The hedgehog spun around before falling backwards, falling into the mess of dandelion flowers.

‘Yeah, good idea… Going to the place where you both hung out a few days ago.’

He held out his hand as a few dandelion seeds floated into his palm, some landed on his spines, just like last time. Sonic stared at the seeds, the warmth inside him welled up, recalling his recent memory of the telekinetic teen. The hedgehog curled his fingers, catching one seed in between his fingers. He stared at the fluffy looking strands that attached to the seed, the thought of it flying away, letting it go, just caused his face to cringe slightly in unsatisfactory.

Sonic couldn’t help but feel stuck in his own thoughts again, the ache in his chest pressed against him, his muzzle heating up, as if time had stopped around him to allow the hedgehog to fantasize.

———

Silver grabbed the hedgehog’s hand to Sonic’s surprise, pulling him up close to the other.

“What are you doing here? Tails said you hadn’t come back yet so I figured I’d go looking for you.” The white hedgehog said, grabbing the side of Sonic’s head gently and turning it again, checking again to see if the blue blur had gotten hurt.

“Huh.. uh… I’m alright,” Sonic answered, flabbergasted, “I just fell asleep. At least that’s what I think happened.”

“You don’t seem hurt anyways… I believe you.” Silver replied with a soft smile.

Sonic gave a warm smile in return, enjoying the others' presence for the moment before a thought popped into his head. He questioned how long he’d been sleeping, if he even did fall asleep in the first place. Hours? How many hours? Days? How many days?

Silver looked around after the two exchanged fixated glances, “You like this place, I can tell,” he muttered happily, “I’m glad you do. No offense to anyone else but usually the others are too busy to check out this type of stuff.” He admitted, using his free hand to scratch the back of his head.

“Silv.” Sonic started, Silver looking back up at him, the blue hedgehog continued, “Don’t sweat it bud, I love this place.” Sonic smiled.

“In fact… if you have any other places like this, I would be more than happy to see them.”Sonic finished with a nod, as Silver’s eyes widened slightly.

“Really? Are you being serious?!” Silver asked, a tint of sparkles in his eye. The expression made Sonic grin.

“I promise Maple! You have a good taste in scenery!”

“Wow…I…” Silver answered, flattered.

Sonic smiled warmly and confidently as he shut his eyes, that didn’t last long. Silver always seemed to pull something unintentionally that aroused the blue blur. This was no different.

The hedgehog's eyes opened immediately as Silver brought his hand close to Sonic’s. The white hedgehog’s fingers intertwined with the others as he finished his sentence.

“…I would love to,” Silver said softly but enthused. Sonic’s face exploded in a shade of red at that moment, his ear tips also showered in shades of pink and red. He wanted to pull away out of surprise, but his body felt stuck, as if resisting the instinct. He never got a chance to see Silver’s next move, face, or words.

———

The blue blur’s eyes snapped open, his muzzle was dashed with a red blush. A hand was on his chest. His thumb and pointer finger gently holding the dandelion seed. Sonic hoisted himself up with his free hand, seeds falling out of his spines, floating to the floor and brushing his arms.

He didn’t mutter anything to himself for a moment, recapturing his thought process. Only his actions could do the talking as of right now.

Sonic lifted his hand, staring at the seed ever so gently clasped between his fingers. Something inside him felt new, like a part of him had been dug up to make room for a new feeling.

This new feeling needed care, it needed attention. Sunlight, water, nutrients.

A few minutes later, Sonic could finally think.

‘A dream…?’ He thought.

“Oh chaos… what’s wrong with me..”
