Chapter Text
Mizuki was having second thoughts about this afterparty ordeal.
They didn’t go to many parties back home. I mean- they weren’t exactly a social butterfly, were they?
However, Ena was going like there was no tomorrow. She had been rushing in and out of sight, talking to strangers and fetching drinks for Mizuki she insited was on her.
Mafuyu and Kanade had disappeared some time along the way, leaving Mizuki with a colorful cocktail and a tipsy Ena to keep track of.
After almost three hours of attempting to mingle at the stuffy pub, Mizuki grabbed Ena’s sleeve and pretty much dragged her outside.
“It’s getting late, we don’t want to miss the last-“
As Mizuki started to scold Ena about not missing the last bus, she tipped forward into their arms in what could graciously be called a hug.
“You’re sweet.” She said.
Mizuki sighed. “And you’re drunk.”
They wrapped an arm around her waist and started walking towards the closest bus stop.
“I hope you’ve still got your wallet on you.” Mizuki muttered as they walked. Instead of replying, Ena just leaned further into their side and snaked her own arm around Mizuki’s waist.
If it wasn’t for the fact that they were responsible for getting the two of them home safe, Mizuki might have died on the spot.
A few more minutes of silence passed. As they sat down side by side to wait for their bus, Ena spoke up.
“Was tonight a date?”
Mizuki stiffened. There were a lot of things that could mean.
“..Did you want it to be?”
Their heart was about to fly across the street. It’d save them a lot of trouble, actually.
Ena flung at them sideways dramatically, groaning as she did so.
“Yeeeeeees.” She said, clearly exasperated.
Mizuki was silent. What do you even say when someone you’ve liked for years says that to you? And not even in a fully concious state?
“..Oh”
More silence.
The bus’ engine saves the awkward moment. At least slightly.
Grabbing Ena’s arm, Mizuki stands up to guide her to the door.
———
Twenty minutes later of a bus ride full of drunks, and another fifteen just trying to get Ena in bed, Mizuki is thoroughly exhausted.
Obviously they can’t do anything about what Ena told them right now. That’d be disgusting. It’d have to wait until the morning.
They laid down underneath the thick duvet, knowing damn well sleep wouldn’t be an option.
⁃ approximately 9 hours later
Ena woke up with a horrible headache.
What the fuck was she up to last night?
Oh. Right.
She sat up, rubbing at her temples as she did so. Checking herself over she saw that she wasn’t in the clothes from yesterdays concert, nor was she in a dingy bathroom covered in puke.
She was in the hotel room she and Mizuki shared.
Just as she had that realization the bathroom door opened.
Out stepped a tired looking Mizuki. As they saw Ena was awake their face lit up.
Ena saw they weren’t sure what to say, so she started instead.
“I’m so sorry for dragging you along to that party- I should’ve thought more before forcing you to take me back here I was probably a mess too- I’m so sorry-“
Mizuki sat down at the edge of her side of the bed. They looked conflicted. Had she done something?
“It’s fine, really. I’m just glad you’re not lying passed out in a ditch somewhere, super hungover.”
Ena didn’t know what to say to that, so she just sat quietly. There must be something more Mizuki wanted to tell her, why else would they be looking so serious?
“Do you remember anything you said last night?” They asked.
Her breathing hitched. What had she said this time?
“..No”
“Oh.”
Her mind started spiraling even before the last syllable was uttered. Had this, whatever she had said, ruined everything?
She didn’t think she could handle another friendship slowly decline.
“I-“
“I’m sorry- Whatever I said can we please just.. forget it?”
Mizuki looked surprised at first. Then a bit sad. No, not sad. What was that expression?
“No.”
No? What did that even mean?
“I don’t-“
Mizuki interrupted her.
“You told me you wanted yesterday to be a date. And I want that too, and I don’t want to pass up on that just because I’m feeling unsure.”
Oh.
Once again, Ena didn’t know what to say.
“You’re- you’re not weirded out?”
Mizuki actually laughed at that.
“Ena, have you seen me? I’m not exactly the most normal person you’ve seen.”
“Still-“
“Don’t worry about it. Ena, I’ve liked you for years now. Nothing you tell me will change that.”
Heat rose to her cheeks. It was honestly a wonder it hadn’t happened earlier in the conversation.
“You’re sweet.”
“You said that last night, too.”
She took a deep breath.
“Then did I tell you this?“ She scooched forward on the bed so that she was sitting right next to Mizuki, close enough to cup their face in her hands.
“I love you, Mizuki.”
This time it was Mizuki’s face that went bright pink.
They leaned forward just a bit, and their lips connected.
The kiss was short. Little more than a peck, but it was everything Ena had hoped for the past couple of years.
“You didn’t tell me that, no.”
“Then I’ll tell you again. This time so we both remember it.”
Mizuki smiled and looked so very soft, and it made Ena fall even more in love with them.
This time when their lips met it was longer, and impossibly sweeter. Ena tilted her face and felt her bottom lip align with the small dent on Mizuki’s own and sighed in pure bliss. She had wondered about how it would feel to the touch.
Their lips were smooth, and as their tongue pushed against her already parted mouth and she let them in without question.
She had never kissed anyone like this before. Sure, she’d kissed drunk girls at parties who just wanted to “see what it felt like,” but never like this. Never with actual feelings.
Their mouth tasted of mint, probably from brushing their teeth. It made her stop for just a second to consider how badly her own breath must be smelling. Tasting?
———
An indiscernible amount of time later they pulled apart for longer than to just breathe.
“I love you too.”
Ena let out a breathy laugh.
“I got that impression, yeah.”
