Chapter Text

In the Grimlands the sounds of two squawking voices filled the Eastvale Manor. Deep in the study were Gem and Fwhip. Both were in a tense argument about the invitation to the elven ball. Fwhip slammed his hands onto the table and growled at his twin in annoyance.

“Forget it sis. I’m not going to a stupid party. You know I hate them.” Fwhip shook his head as Gem pouted quite a bit. She sighed and shook hers as she then grasped his arm. “Fwhip please! Scott really wants us to come! Besides! He’s part of the alliance!” She insisted. Gem really did want to attend the ball. She wasn’t big on dresses or dancing but to be free from the horrors of her work did it for her. Besides, Gem wanted to have the chance to be around people who weren’t so judging. So alas, she was quite happy to go.

But it would be weird without Fwhip….Gem had to convince him. Otherwise she would be awkward alone.

“Gem. No. I refuse.” Fwhip stubbornly replied.

“Please Fwhip!” Gem begged. She widened her eyes and flickered tears in her eyes as she stared into his periwinkle ones. He hesitated before speaking. Gem always knew how to get him. Even when she knew he hated whatever it was. “Gem……no….” He gritted his teeth.

“But-but-Sausage will be there!”

“No.”

“Pearl-?!”

“Not a chance.”

“Uh Katherine will be there too!”

“No! I’m not going!”

“They’re our friends! Scott would be so happy Fwhip!” Gem cried.

“Look! If I go will you stop pestering me?!” Fwhip angrily gritted his teeth at Gem. He didn’t want to go. That was for sure. But if it meant Gem leaving him alone then he supposed it was worth it.

“Yes! I promise!” Gem was willing to say anything at this point.

“….F-fine….I’ll go...I swear they better have good wine.” He then swore underneath his breath before Gem slapped him. He muttered and looked at her. “What was that for-?!” He growled. Gem narrowed her forestry eyes and sighed. “You know you can’t drink more than a cup. Remember how it affects our family. We’re not like others who can stomach alcohol. Remember? We both almost died last time we drank.” Gem sighed as she reminded Fwhip of their family’s genes. It was true, the Arescet family were known not to be able to drink more then a cup of alcohol. They mainly drank tea and the water that they could find that was clean. Fwhip was always jealous of those who could stomach the beverages. Especially red wine. The taste was so exquisite and unique. He loved it.

“Come on sis…I’m not gonna drink anything. Well maybe a glass but I’ll stick to tea.” Fwhip rolled his eyes. Gem held back the urge to slap her twin. She sighed and shook her head.

“That’s what you said last time.” She groaned.

——

The Rivendellian palace was absolutely beautiful. The quartz pillars that held it together was carved with such talent. While the roof was shaped in a vaulted way. Gold was plastered throughout the halls on the trim. The chandeliers were crystal diamond and had a since of elegance radiating off of it. The floors were the most luxurious marble the shined heavenly. Compared to the Eastvale manor it was beautiful and bright. While the latter was dark and broody.

The Rosblings arrived at the palace around nine that night unfortunately for Fwhip, in a carriage. Not by elytra but by horse. Fwhip hated it. He absolutely despised not flying. He had spent forever creating the craft of flight and not using it seemed like a crime to him. It wasn’t just that, Fwhip hated how slow the animals were. All he could do was sit around in uncomfortable clothing while the animals went ten miles per a hour.

Fwhip wore a dark suit perfect for the occasion. Gone were his goggles. In replace was simply his ruffled ginger hair. Fwhip refused to take off his scarf so alas, around his neck was still the same old maroon scarf. Instead of his leather gloves he wore white, formal ones that made his hand look relatively small. Over all Fwhip still looked quite handsome. But even so, he hated it.

Gem didn’t mind it as much but she too disliked it. She was a wizard after all, and she never wore anything fancy. But yet, here she was going against everything she knew. But she had to keep the Arescet name proud. Even if that meant breaking the code.

She wore a long maroon colored dress that’s sleeves ended just below her elbow. Golden trim surrounded the bottom creating a beautiful look. Gem’s hair was down for the first time in so long making it seem odd to everyone else who saw her. She had long, luscious curled hair that stopped way below her waist. It was shocking to say the least.

“Here we are Your excellencies.” The couch man stepped down from the driver’s seat and opened the door for them much to Fwhip’s annoyance. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” Fwhip grumble quickly getting out. Gem face palmed and looked at the couch man. “Thank you sir. Have a goodnight.” She bowed despite technically being higher ranking. As said before, wizards weren’t above anyone. Nor were they below. They were a special ranking with no class.

“Oh-uh-goodnight milady.” The couch man bowed humbly. Before Gem could respond Fwhip called her. “Coming!” She shouted quickly walking towards her twin. She tripped on her heels and almost fell to the ground. Fwhip saw his sister falling so he quickly grasped her arms to stop her. “Gem! Be more careful!” He angrily shouted his concerns. She was unable to speak for a moment as she cleared her throat.

“-Ri-Right. Sorry about that. My mistake.” She then fixed herself and walked towards the entrance. She was embarrassed by the fall but she simply wasn’t use to wearing clothing like she wore.

“Fwhip! Gem!” The twins turned to see Katherine who looked like a angel. She wore a laced, white ballgown with accents of flowers and and golden buttons and such. She looked immaculate with her hair in a half bun and had it freshly curled.

“Katherine.” Fwhip waved at the fairy. She truly looked amazing. That was for sure. The twins had just entered the ballroom when they saw her. She was with Amica, her regent.

“Ah, Count Fwhip, Wizard Gem, hope you two are well.” He bowed. Katherine couldn’t help but giggle at this. Gem quickly followed in pursuit of the caretaker of Katherine. Fwhip hesitated before he too bowed.

“Regent Amica, how are you?” He asked trying not to be rude. Amica smiled. “I am well as suspected. And you?” He asked kindly. Fwhip nodded to this. “Uh….good….It’s uh. It’s quite good to be here I suppose. How goes the ruling?” Fwhip asked feeling quite awkward. “Quite well. Now let’s not talk about boring old politics shall we? It’s a ball after all! We should enjoy ourselves!” Amica quickly said clapping is hands. Katherine nodded to this so did Gem.

“Your right! It’s not every day when someone hosts a ball!” Katherine smiled gleefully.

“Katherine is right. Let’s have a fun time. After all, ruling isn’t easy on anyone.” Gem nodded. Amica nodded as he took a sip of wine. “Here here! I’ll drink to that.”

A few moments later Gem and Amica were chatting away about who knows what leaving Fwhip and Katherine bored. They stood still unsure of what to do until finally Fwhip had a idea spark in his head. “Do you want to help me find Sausage?” He asked tilting his head in excitement. Katherine whom was sipping wine blinked and chuckled nervously. “Oh…..sure thing….I suppose it’s better than just standing here doing nothing….”

“Alright. Hey Gem!” Fwhip called his sister whom was chatting away. Gem turned and cocked a brow at her brother.

“We’re going to find Sausage and the others.”

“Alright. And remember Fwhip! No wine!” Gem place the rules down.

“Okay okay!” Fwhip shouted back. Katherine blinked unsure of what Gem meant by that. But then suddenly she was pulled along by Fwhip towards the middle of the dance floor.

With that the two quickly led to find Sausage leaving Amica and Gem alone. He smiled as he looked at the two. “Ahh…what a lovely brother. Quite….charming isn’t he?” Gem rolled her eyes and scratched her cheek. “By charming do you mean annoying?” She asked.

“Pardon?”

“You wouldn’t understand….have you seen Scott or any of the other alliances?” Gem quickly changed subjects. “We talked a bit to the King. He seemed very happy that’s for sure.”

“Really? Why?

“Perhaps because of the hall. Although I do not see him being one who would like these sort of things.” Amica said sipping more wine.

“I agree with that. How is Katherine?” Gem asked as they walked. She was rather fond of Amica. She loved to talk to him about miscellaneous subjects.
“She is….well, lonely. As we stand now we must find her a spouse before she can be crowned.”

“That’s a shame. Katherine is so young though…does she have to marry…?”

“I’m afraid so. It is Overgrownian law that the princess must be married before she is crowned queen. We cannot change it. I’ve tried. Unfortunately, it is a path we have to follow. I can only hope Katherine is alright with this.”

“That is…unfortunate. Surely she wants to marry. Don’t worry about that. Have you found anyone?”

“No, it’s surprisingly hard. No suitable prince, knight, lord or count have been found. Katherine is actually quite stubborn with men. She finds no attraction in any of them. I don’t blame her of course. I don’t want her to marry someone she doesn’t want to but it’s very frustrating.” He sighed.

“I can see that. Sounds like my brother. Most Grimlanders marry young. Especially the Counts. He simply hasn’t found the right woman I guess.”

Amica smiled as he listened to the wizard’s worries. Gem always saw him as a grandfather. Perhaps it was because he simply was a man that gave off a fatherly personality. Gem knew a certain king whom also was like him.

“What about you if you don’t mind me asking Gem? Are you planning on marrying?”

“Nah. Wizards don’t get married. We take magic as our spouse I guess.” Gem sighed unsure of how to speak of herself. Amica narrowed his eyes at the wizard.

“Really…? All wizards don’t marry?” He cocked a brow. Gem couldn’t help but blush in embarrassment. “Alright. I admit. Some marry. But I too at the moment don’t want to marry.”

“Ahh I’m sorry. This was personal, I had no right to get in your private life. Do forgive me.”

Gem blushed heavily. She didn’t have a problem sharing this with Amica. Especially since he was so kind. “Your fine Amica. I don’t mind telling.”

Fwhip and Katherine laughed as they playfully avoided people who were dancing. Katherine was a giggling mess as they ducked over a rather large woman. They were pancing together in the crowd holding hands as they made their way towards where they assumed Sausage would be.

“Fwhip! Hold on!” Katherine was laughing hardly as she panted in tiredness. The count stopped and quickly looked at his friend. “I’m…wearing high heels.” She sighed as she grasped his shoulder in support. Fwhip giggled a bit. “Sorry. Want to rest?” He asked. Katherine shook her head in response. “No….I’m good.” As she spoke a song started playing locking them in the middle of the crowd.

“Oh uh-excuse me.” Fwhip tried to get away from the crowd. He held Katherine’s hand protectively so she wouldn’t become lost in the crowd. He saw no way out and with that he let out a frustrated sigh. “Do you see a way out?” Katherine tilted her head. The count quickly shook his and shrugged. “No. There’s way to many women here with massive dresses. Other words, we literally are stuck in the middle of this. What are we suppose to do?!” He asked impatiently.

Katherine found this not frightening at all. At least they were together so no one had to suffer by themselves. “It’ll be a bit before the song ends. We’re probably be stuck in this circle for a bit. Uh maybe we should use it to our advantage?”

“I guess your right. Ugh, what are we suppose to do…?” He asked turning to the princess. She shrugged unsure of what to do. Fwhip then felt a idea spark in his mind. “Hey. Wanna dance?” He asked finding excitement.

Katherine looked at him and giggled a bit. “Dance-? That would be fun I won’t lie. Let’s take a swing at it.” Katherine said with giddy. Fwhip nodded and so they walk to the middle of the tiny circle they had.

Katherine bowed gracefully while Fwhip stood still in unsure silence as a thought came over him. Katherine blinked and tilted her head. “Fwhip….? Are you okay?”

“I uh…..” He looked down.

“I just realized something….”

“What-?”

He looked away and blushed heavily as his face turned a color that Katherine hadn’t seen him so heated in a long time.

“I-can’t dance…..”

“What?”

He felt Katherine take his hand as she gently held it. “What?” She echoed.

“I can’t dance. Like at all….it’s-a bit…confusing to me.” He shyly stated. Katherine had no idea this was something that Fwhip hadn’t known. She assumed since he was after all, a count.

“Well I can teach you.” She smiled patiently at him. Fwhip averted his eyes away from the fairy as he chuckled. “You think you could do that? I have no clue where to begin….”

“Yeah. I could….do you want to?” She looked him into the eyes as they stare for a moment. He smiled back at her and sighs happily. “…yeah….I do. I think-that is.”

Katherine giggled then and broke the stare. “Yay! Let’s get started then!” She shouted above the loud music and talking. She gently took his hands and started explaining what to do.

“You just take these….and place them between here.” She placed one of his hands onto the left side of her waist and then the right one on her other side. Fwhip turned a violent red as he did so. He held her carefully afraid that if he pressed too hard she would break.

Katherine not seeing his face placed her hands onto his shoulders and leaned gently in slightly making Fwhip uncomfortable.

“There we go. Now we dance.” Katherine giggled as she took the lead. Slowly and carefully, they turned and danced. Fwhip slowly got it as he tried to hide his embarrassment.

“Your a natural!” Katherine gasped as he attempted to twirl her around. He wasn’t the best but he also wasn’t the worse. Katherine had danced with many a men before and he was possibly one of the best. Or at least one of the ones she most enjoyed.

“I am-?” He titled his head.

“Yeah…..you are.”

Fwhip felt himself become happier and less embarrassed at her words. She was a wonderful dancer. After all, she was a princess. And the fact that she said he was doing a good job gave him confidence. He looked down and giggled a bit.

“You don’t know what that means to me-“ He never did finish as Katherine gasped as he dipped her.

“Who says I don’t?” Katherine gave him a cheeky smile as they both bursted into laughter. A few songs later they noticed a way out of the crowd but neither were in a hurry to leave.

“So uh…” Fwhip hesitated. He had a feeling Katherine didn’t want to leave either. They had been enjoying themselves. No one wanted to end the dance. They leaned in closely as he dipped her downwards. He looked into her eyes and she did too. Faces nearly touching.

Then he was caught in surprise by a unexpected voice causing him to drop her onto the ground.

“Hey Fwhip!! Fwhip over here!” He recognized it as Sausage’s. And he looked over to see the king jumping up with of course, Pearl, by his side. He quickly looked back at Katherine who was blushing as she tried to lift herself off the floor.

“Oh-I’m so sorry uh-“ Fwhip quickly helped the girl up who moaned tiredly.

“Your-fine. I’m-Go see Sausage.” She nodded to Fwhip. “Of course. Do you want to come with?” He reached his arm to her gesturing her to join him but as she grasped his arm she was shot off her feet by a unexpected arm. She screamed in fear as she fell off her heels and straight into the arms of some unknown male.

“Katherine!” Fwhip ran to her but stopped abruptly in shock by the person who held her. It was…to what he would think of….a definitely a unexpected person.

The man was short, skinny, and bald. And the most disgusting of it all, he was old. And the sight of this man catching the girl who he clearly purposely pushed, Fwhip was disgusting.

“Look who I swept off her feet.” The old man who’s mustache seemed to be half of him chuckled. He was royalty of course, judging by his clothing.

“Who are you?” Fwhip spoke ahead of Katherine who was in shock silence.

“Who am I? Well who am I! Well mister Count Flip of Finlands! I should say! You not knowing who I am! How prosperous! I am the Duke! Of Westleton!”

“It’s Fwhip- And that’s Grimlands for you’re information….and did you say “Weaseltown-?”

“Westleton! And what kind of name is Fwhip-? What are you a fake named intruder?” The duke of Westleon interrogated.

“…What….? No. I was named after my grandfather.” Fwhip blinked in utter confusion. “What do you want anyway?” He crossed his arms feeling quite annoyed.

“I came here to save the damsel in distress of course. Whom owes me for saving her life!” The Duke of Westleton shouted at the girl who was still in shock.

“Hmm….? What-? Oh uh…” Katherine blinked as she came too. She hadn’t been knocked unconscious but pure shock had gotten the best of her.

“She doesn’t owe anything to the person who pushed her.” Fwhip snatched Katherine up from the Duke’s arms. Katherine like a rag doll, came up immediately. She heard Fwhip being called and something the Duke of Westleton said.

“Fwhip! Over here gosh dang it!” That was Sausage. Who was getting impatient. Fwhip groaned in disgust. “Come on Katherine.” He turned away towards Sausage and Pearl. Katherine started but as soon as Fwhip was out of the area the dance was started back up causing Katherine to be grasped by the Duke of Westleton.

Fwhip turned and shouted out but Katherine reassured him with a sweet smile. “I’ll be fine Fwhip! Go see Sausage!” And as she said that…..She was whisked away with the Duke for a most unfortunate dance.

Meanwhile Gem and Amica were walking around the outskirts of the ballroom and were drinking some exquisite non alcoholic beverage. They had been talking about many a subjects as Gem watched her brother dance surprisingly. She was amazed that Katherine had gotten him to dance. She knew for a fact that he couldn’t dance. Amica seemed to have notice this too. As he noted something that he would discuss later.

“They appear to be having quite the fun.” He stated the obvious. Gem nodded. “Fwhip can’t dance. I am very surprise Katherine of all people would want to dance with him.”

“Really? Very interesting….” Before he could continue speaking a crowd of public officials walked up to Amica. “Oh dear….I’m afraid I must talk to these men. Gem please forgive me.” He apologized. Gem nodded at this. “Of course, go ahead. I’m going to go look for Scott.”

“Of course, tell the king it is a honor to be here.”

“Will do.” Gem walked away avoiding the crowds the best she could. She noticed in the area in which the dancers were was Scott. He seemed to be dancing with a woman oh such beauty. Her hair was so luscious, so fine that Gem thought it was the best she had ever seen. It had been the color of the finest lace and her face! Oh how fine her lips looked indeed. They were ever so full that Gem could see them a mile away. But at the same time they were thin. It was odd indeed. The woman’s eyes were a natural ruby red that seemed unreal. They were like a red azalea and that made Gem look at her even more in shock. Her skin was paler than Gem’s ever was. She looked even paler than death itself. Her outfit was far from hideous. In fact, it was the most beautiful dress Gem had ever seen. It too, like her eyes were a maroon red that stood out ever so greatly. Her gloves reached to her elbow and how her top revealed! Gem felt something in her chest that made her angry. But she was unsure of what it was.

Scott danced with the woman tremendously as if they were perfect for each other…They were made for each other…the woman had elven blood in her for sure. Her ears were sharp just like Scott’s….

As the dance ended Gem watched the smiling couple dispersed and walk away from each other. Scott seemed to light up as he saw Gem standing in the outskirts of the ballroom.

“Gem! Your here! I’m so glad you came!“ Scott humbly bowed at the wizard. Gem curtsied and frowned at Scott. “Of course I’m here. So who were you dancing with?” She asked slightly going into interrogating mode.

“Oh her? That’s Princess Anastasia of Xethen. She’s beautiful isn’t she? I haven’t seen her in years. I was surprised how she turned out. No wonder the counts and princes have been all over her.”

Gem felt like she recognized that name from somewhere. She was unsure where though. Gem looked at Scott whom was staring straight at the princess. She now was dancing with another man but the way she moved must of meant something because it was extraordinary.

Was this woman perfect?

Gem shook her head and cleared her throat.

“She is beautiful. So are you two…?” Gem needed a blunt answer from Scott. She didn’t know why she did. But she did. Scott gasp and quickly shook his head in absolute disgust. “What-?! No Gem! You got the wrong idea! She’s my cousin!” He turned a bright pink. Gem wanted to run back in her shell. She was so embarrassed. More than she ever had been in her lifetime. How could she have made such a brash statement. She immediately bowed as courteous as she could be in begging for forgiveness.

“I’m so sorry Scott! I-I didn’t mean to sound so rude!”

Scott laughed at this. Being an elf meant he couldn’t let humans’ idiotic assumptions get to him. “Your fine Gem.” He said with his accent being thickly in the words.

“But I feel bad….but wait…did you say Anastasia of Xethen….? I feel like I’ve heard my brother-mention meeting her. Like a year ago or something.”

“Aye they did meet. It was a very….interesting tale to say the least.”

“What happened?”

Scott chuckled at this as he gestured with his arm. “Come. Let’s go outside and we can talk.”

“Alright!”

—-

“Fwhip! Now you come over!” Sausage gave the count a bear hug. Fwhip gasped as he was unable to breathe in shock. He felt every bone in his body seemly try to break as he kicked Sausage in the shins. Sausage dropped the boy in shock and moaned in pain as his legs went numb.

Fwhip landed onto the ground feeling safer already until he felt another arm surround him. This time it was worse, it was Pearl. And Pearl being one of the strongest in the world, well……

“Pearl-?” Fwhip gagged as she accidentally choked him.

“Aye Fwhip! I’m so happy you came. Aye Sausage said you wouldn’t come. Saying your too introverted to come. Aye you proved him wrong didn’t you?” Pearl said with optimism surrounding her voice.

“I-can’t breathe!“ Fwhip choked.

Sausage blushed. “Hey! I was stating the truth! And oh-uh-Pearl wait your choking him!” Pearl abruptly dropped Fwhip in shock and gasped at her hands. “Oh Fwhip! I’m so sorry. I don’t know why my hugs are so…tight.”

“…More like deathly….” Fwhip muttered underneath his breath as he stood up clearly shaken from the whole experience.

“Aw come on Fwhip lighten up!” Sausage ruffled his ginger hair causing Fwhip to smack his arms playfully.

“Hey-! Cut it out!”

“Aw there’s the stubborn boy we all know and love!”

Fwhip tackled Sausage in a way and quickly was pulled off by Pearl. “Hey. You boys behave. Look who’s coming over.” They all turned to see the jaw dropping, eye staring….Anastasia. She was confidently walking towards them as she showed off her curves as she strutted towards them. Pearl blinked in shock as she watched her get closer feeling what every other woman in the world felt, jealousy. Perhaps not nearly as much as others. Sausage looked at her like any other man would but he quickly shook his head getting rid of all unimportant thoughts. Fwhip was the only one who looked at her in absolute disgust.

“Oh no. Not her. Anyone but her.”

“What’s the matter Fwhip?” Sausage asked. Anyone would be lucky to talk to the most beautiful woman in the world after all.
“I hate her! She’s a selfish bratty woman who wants nothing but power and men!” He shouted.

“That’s not nice.” Sausage started. Fwhip shook his head trying to hide behind Sausage. “You clearly have never met her. If she comes over here then I will scream.”
But she was coming over here causing Fwhip to make a run for it across the ballroom in hopes of escaping her.

He felt safer when he was in the mist of people dancing. At least it would be hard to be seen now. Fwhip really didn’t want to talk to Anastasia. He had bad memories with her. Causing him never to want to see her again.

“Poor me. Not even getting a hello from a dear friend.” A pouty but absolutely beautiful voice murmured into the air. Fwhip clenched his fist as he realized he had lost. He turned and frowned at the woman.

“Anastasia.” He said simply.

“Aren’t you going to say hello sir Fwhip? It’s the polite thing to say.”

“Wasn’t planning on it.” Fwhip turned but she grasped his hand making his brows shoot up.

“Why not…handsome boys like you should always do so.” Anastasia trailed her hand up Fwhip’s neck making him feel uncomfortable.

“Dance with me.” Anastasia smiled that same beautiful one. She lifted her hand up waiting for the count to take her gloved hand. Fwhip looked away and gritted his teeth. “I don’t dance.” He muttered quickly getting the woman off of him.

“Oh but you do. Such a charming and handsome ruler has to be able to dance.” She smiled seductively. Fwhip felt uncomfortable by her words. He blushed heavily as he tried to walk away but a crowd of dancing couples stood in his way. He heard a chuckle come from Anastasia as he turned to face her.

“Besides Sir Fwhip, wouldn’t you dream of taking my hand?” Anastasia calmly murmured into the air. She was beautiful beyond belief. That was left unsaid. Anyone were considered lucky if they were even offered a smile from her. She was after all, the most beautiful in all of the land. And besides, she was a princess. The princess of the Kingdom of Xethen. It was a somewhat faraway empire that The Grimlands occasionally traded with. They bartered gems and stones as their main trade.

He growled to himself and angrily took her hand. She chuckled at this as they walked in the crowd. Fwhip dared not dance. He felt a burning passion to walk away fill him but he couldn’t act on it. He couldn’t.

“So Count Fwhip. How goes the Kingdom of The Grimlands?” She asked as they walked. Fwhip closed his eyes in annoyance as he tried to calm down. The Grimlands were prospering greatly. Fwhip was a wonderful ruler. Even if he did occasionally cause a bit of chaos. Technology was booming. The Grimland’s was making ever so many new inventions. It was amazing.

“It’s…fine…” He sighed turning from the woman.

“Don’t lie to a princess Count Fwhip. It’s dangerous to do so.”

He closed his eyes as he tried not to snap at her. Every time he met Anastasia it always ended the same way. He hated it. Especially since she constantly flirted with him and called him out on things.

“It’s just-that I don’t like talking about it myself.” Fwhip murmured as they came to the middle of the ballroom. Anastasia giggled as she waited for him.

“Dance with me Sir Fwhip. Don’t you dare disappoint me either. That wouldn’t be polite.” She cocked a brow. Fwhip clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. If the ball hadn’t been a important social he would snap at her. But unfortunately, it was.

“Of course….your majesty…” He bowed and retook her hand. They then began to waltz with Anastasia happily doing her part and Fwhip dragging his feet trying to ignore her. “Stop dragging your feet sir Fwhip.” Anastasia frowned at him. A cheeky smile curved his mouth this time.

“Of course oh most excellent.” He then spun her around unexpectedly causing her to scream. The hand that Fwhip held her by slipped on her glove and she then fell onto a man who quickly shouted and moved out of the way from the unexpected weight and she then toppled onto the marble floor creating a scene from everyone dancing. Anastasia growled at Fwhip as she turned red in embarrassment.

He could feel the eyes of hundred on him. Fwhip chuckled and shrugged. “Oops….sorry…she was just too heavy for me to hold….She should loose a few pounds.” The entire room went wild with laughter causing Anastasia to turn so red that she looked like a parrot.

She stood up and glared at Fwhip. “You may be handsome and charming and have the most technological advanced civilization but you are nothing but a pig louse. Hah….swine of the earth.” She smiled unexpectedly. “I’ll be back for you handsome. Mark my words.” And with that she turned and walked away. Fwhip stood still as he realized what he had did. He only hoped that no one would spread this across the world. Otherwise not only would the Grimlands have drama with the kingdom of Xethen but he would have to deal with something far worse: A angry Gem.

“Oh hell.” Fwhip placed a hand over his eyes as he tilted his head up.

—-

Gem and Scott were in the garden area where large bushes of peonies grew and the little creek of water flowed gracefully. The sky was beautiful that night. The stars shined brightly down upon the palace. As the two rulers talked they heard the soft sounds of the flowers gently moving in the wind.

“So how goes the Crystal Cliffs?” Scott asked the wizard. Gem chuckled a bit at this. She turned to him and smiled. “It’s been alright. Being the Representative of the Crystal Cliffs is hard work. I have to do pretty much what the Elders vote on. Thankfully we’re peaceful so it’s not that stressful.” Gem finished with a sigh not mentioning the threats that she received. Scott nodded as he carefully listened. “That’s impressive you know.” He smiled at her.

“Thanks. But your literally a king. It’s…..kind of well you know…..” Gem started bewildered by her elven friend. Scott chuckled this time and looked at the stars. “Yes that is true, but it’s also not. I envy you. Your people are a democracy. I would love not to have to deal with the stress of ruling all my life. But unfortunately, my people come first. And I dare not change governments when my people already love the one set up.” He explained.

Gem looked at the elf and felt pity for him. She smiled sadly at him before picking a peony from a nearby bush and gifting it to him.

“One day that stress will go away. I know….it’s hard. I know your pain. Take this flower as a sign of that promise. Your a grand ruler Scott. Don’t be discouraged.”

Scott blushed a bit before gently taking the peony and placing it in his coat pocket showing it off to the world. “I didn’t mean to make this about myself.” He sighed turning away.

“Of course you didn’t. I did. Scott….we’ve known each other for years.” She sighed.

Scott was going to respond when he simply looked up at the sky. “I’m fine Gem. Now what you asked about Anastasia? Oh yes. I’ll explain it to you a bit. The Ruby Princess is spending a while with me. She wants to tour this side of the world. Meet someone hopefully for a spouse. But you wanted to know about her and Fwhip….I remember quite well what tale you mean. They both knew each other quite well. Friends even. But then Anastasia and Fwhip got into a argument that broke them in half. Not sure if you know this but Gem, your brother is very unforgiving. So is Anastasia. But she was willing to let go of her anger if it meant being friends with him. But unfortunately like I said….your brother is stubborn.”

“Oh my….Fwhip never even told me about her….I only knew from Sausage.” Gem said looking down. “Yes. As far as I know no one else knew about them but me and Sausage…..” Scott said.

Silence filled the garden as neither spoke. Gem then was reminded of something she wanted to ask about. “Scott?”

“Hmm?”

“You uhm. Are you quite sure about where you stand with the Cod war at the moment?” She asked.

“Cod war?”

“Yes…With Jimmy. Are you sure you cannot help?”

Scott stopped for a moment before nodding. “Gem I told you. I’m landlocked. I cannot do anything. What about the Crystal Cliffs? Did the Elders vote?”

Gem winced as she was reminded of the vote that had just took place. She looked away as pain filled her. She was still angry at the elders’ decision. She was trying to hold off not saying anything to Fwhip. But the news of the neutrally would seem be forced out in the open.

“Don’t ask. It would make the Codfather’s day if I said what they voted on.” Gem sighed. Scott frowned then and tilted his head.

“They declined?”

“They declined.”

…..

Before either of them spoke a scream was sounded from the ballroom. Scott looked worried as it sounded like Anastasia. Gem was worried because she knew Fwhip or Sausage did something.

“What was that-?” Scott shouted in worry. Gem looked down and shook her head.

“Fwhip…”

—-

When Gem and Scott arrived back in the ballroom everyone was dancing as if nothing had happened. But something surely had. Was someone hurt? Murdered? By who? A elf? Fwhip? Gem was worried of course. She ran towards the only ginger she saw who was sitting in a chair before tripping on her dress once more. As she arrived at him she noticed that it was Fwhip who was drinking red wine…. Sausage and Pearl were trying to retrieve the beverage out of his hands but unfortunately, Fwhip had a strong grasp.

“Fwhip-?! What are you doing?” Gem shouted quietly at her twin who had seemed to have forgotten the rules. She couldn’t help but notice that he seemed to have drunk more then one glass for he was getting a bit….rambunctious. Gem knew exactly how Fwhip reacted to alcohol. After a glass he would become happy and mischievous and very loud compared to his quiet, cool self. He would giggle up a storm before suddenly getting sick and being out cold for a week.

“Fwhip-?! I told you no alcohol!” Gem tried to snatch the glass out of his hand but he was too strong. He giggled some more as he took another sip. “Sausage sis is being mean. She’s trying to take my drink.” He pouted as Sausage held back a giggle. A drunk Fwhip was something that almost no one saw. It was all behind doors. He had seen it quite a lot. Pearl had too.

“Fwhip let’s not drink that anymore. You’re gonna get sick.” Sausage said caring about his friend. Fwhip whined and turned away from them. “No….! This is….my drink….not yours…..” He took another sip.

“Fwhip that’s not nice.” Pearl said with concern in her voice. She tried to reach for it but Fwhip held it like it was precious to him.

“Fwhip. Drop the wine. Now.” Gem sternly said. Fwhip simply laughed.

“Sis your a meanie….that’s a pretty dress you know…..heheh….” He tried to get up but Sausage pinned him down. “Stop it!!” He moaned in sadness. Gem looked at the two and furrowed her brow.

“What did he do?”

“He was dancing with princess Anastasia when she fell and got laughed at by Fwhip’s rude comment. He felt bad but didn’t know what to say so he went to get wine and everything just happened from then when one of the dancers fell and me and Pearl went to help them. When we came back he was like this.” Sausage explained in short detail. Pearl nodded at this.

“It’s true. Fwhip is very….rule breaking….”

Gem facepalmed as Fwhip made another giggly comment. This time Gem growled and snatched the glass away.

Fwhip caught off guard shouted in grief as his drink was taken away. He wanted to cry at that but he didn’t. He may become emotional when drunk but not that emotional.

“Give it back!” He whimpered.

“No Fwhip! This is for your own good!” Gem shouted holding the drink out of his arm’s reach. He tried to get up so he playfully smacked Sausage out of the way and so he fell onto Pearl. Fwhip drunkenly grasped Gem’s torso since he couldn’t stand up straight. Gem seeing that she was about to fall and potentially either hurt herself on a broken glass or Fwhip getting more drunk. Alas there was nothing she could do, besides of course, drink the wine herself.

She drank it all in one sip. Gem gagged as the sweet and sour taste filled her mouth. Her pupils went black as she already felt the alcohol taking a toll on her. She swallowed as best she could so she wouldn’t spill the blood red drink all over herself.

Fwhip meanwhile was being pulled back onto the chair by Sausage and Pearl. “Gem! Are you okay-?” Sausage hastily went to the gagging wizard. She quickly nodded. “Yeah…..we’re…fine…” She whimpered a bit as she begun to feel drunk. “Oh no….” She muttered to herself. She always was affected before Fwhip. Always.

“Gem how much did you drink?” Sausage worriedly asked. She looked up at him in the eyes and whimpered as her mind became slightly fuzzy. “A full cup….” She. Murmured into the air.

“Hell.” Sausage groaned as he then tried to get her to sit down. Suddenly Gem saw Scott who had been bombarded with public officials. He ran to the wizard and grasp her underneath the shoulder so she wouldn’t fall.

“Gem! What happened-?” He asked.

Fwhip who was now giggling said into the air. “She stole my drink Scottie! My drink!”

Scott blinked as he realized what happened but before he could speak Gem kicked Sausage to the side and grasped Scott’s coat. “Scott listen. I am about to become drunk. I can feel the-affects-getting…..to me. I need you to help get Fwhip home….” As she spoke.

“What! Gem what about you?”

“Sausage can get me home. Listen….Fwhip is about to get sick any second. Then he should pass out. Just someone get him home!” She then ran from them as she felt her insides turn. She ran outside to the balcony where there she lost her insides and became sick. Scott was by her side and so was Sausage. She was whimpering to herself as she couldn’t focus anymore. Everything was a blur to her as she soon lost conscious.
Scott blinked as he held the sleeping wizard while Sausage giggled.

“Oh my gosh Scott. A glass of alcohol did that to her.” He laughed. Scott shook his head. “It amazes me every time.” As they spoke they heard Pearl shouting.

“Oh great. I know Gem said for me to get her home but Scott can you? I got Fwhip to handle.” Scott nodded. “Of course. Uh well. I’ll get her home don’t worry.” Scott promised.

Sausage nodded as he ran back inside to help find the other drunk twin.

Meanwhile Katherine was trying to get the Duke of Westleton to leave her alone. He was a old, small man wearing heels and wore a toupee.
Katherine’s feet ached from him stepping onto her tiny feet multiple times.

“Please- uh Sir Weasel-ton-? Uh-I’m afraid I’m rather getting nauseous.” She stumbled over her words as she swallowed trying to control her stomach. The old man danced wildly not hearing her until he heard how she pronounced his name.

“Westleton! The Duke of Westleton!” He snapped at her before dancing around her. Katherine felt extremely uncomfortable from the man’s looked as his pointed nose seemed to to stab into her shoulder. Katherine held back the urge to runaway back to her regent.

“R-right….uh-“ She was again interrupted as the duke spoke once more. “So what is the story of the Overgrown anyway my princess. Why did it choose you as the heir to the throne…?” He asked cocking a thick brow. Katherine shrunk back as he stood on her sensitive feet.

“Oh uh-I have no idea-! I guess….the flowers-chose me-?”

“Hah. Flowers hmm….? Those pesky little plants do nothing but take up room. Why would they let a little servant girl rule over such a grand empire…..unless…” The Duke of Westleton cocked his brow once more. Katherine feeling overwhelmed and embarrassed not to mention uncomfortable, shook her head.

“They thought I was the best fit for my people…” She mumbled unsure of what to say. She tried to move away from him but he was quick and was at her face once more causing her to shout. All around them were dancers. So it wasn’t like she could easily call for help. Besides, Amica probably couldn’t see her from this point. No, she would have to suck it up and deal with the uncomfortableness.

“Really…? How can you rule. Your not fitted. A servant girl at the age of sixteen. There has never been a case. Tell me….are you planning to marry….perhaps you need someone stronger to rule over such a kingdom.”

Katherine bit her tongue as she wanted ever so badly to lie. But, Amica told her never to. It was a shameful way to live anyhow. But she didn’t want to tell this old man anything. Especially after what he said about her.

“Uh….of course I plan to marry.” Katherine answers honestly.

“Really…? Are you betrothed?”

“Uh-no s-sir?”

“You know….I have a nephew who is looking for a bride himself. Thirty six years old. He needs a heir too…. Perhaps you could give him one.”

Katherine immediately felt alarmed by what he said and tried to pull away. She needed protection right now and she didn’t want to talk to this man. In fact, she wanted nothing to do with him. She didn’t want to see his nephew that was twenty years older than her, much less be in the same room with the Duke of Westleton.

“Forgive me….I have to go.” Katherine gave herself a hug with her arms before he could continue. Before she could walk away he grasped her hand causing fear in her soul.

“Wait! Milady! I forgot to tell you something.” Something in his voice sounded like slyness to Katherine as she pulled away. “I really-have to go.” She said stumbling towards the closest people she knew.

“Amica-“ She started.

“I told you I had to tell you something.” The Duke of Westleton then frowned.

“I really have to go though-“

He leaned her closely and smiled at her. Showing his teeth.

“Your kingdom is wonderful. But their ruler is weak. You need someone stronger than a pathetic servant girl who can’t take even a dance with a man. You really do need a husband. Someone who will be strong enough to handle it.”

“Someone…like my nephew…..” He grasped her arm. Katherine was unsure how to react so her arm did first. She felt it go upwards and slap the Duke away making him drop her arm and her being able to slip away in the dense crowd.

“Ow! Hey! Come back here slave girl!” He shouted as she disappeared into the the distance. Thankfully, she was short. And so was he, so she was able to escape rather easily and soon found where Amica was. He seemed to be talking to Scott about something. Katherine was unsure of what, but she was getting overwhelmed. She needed to go home right now.

Amic who had been laughing turned and gasped in shock as he saw Katherine’s face. Knowing her for almost forever, meant of course that he knew when she was in pain. And he knew for sure that she was.

“Forgive me Scott, but, I just saw Wizard Gem and Count Fwhip fall or something. Perhaps you should go check on them.” Amica quickly said.

Scott cocked a brow and turned around to see Fwhip and Gem go down. He quickly threw his drink to the side onto the nearby drink station and with long strides, walked as fast as he could towards Gem and Fwhip. Leaving Amica alone with Katherine.

“Katherine! Are you okay-?” He gently grasped the poor girl’s staggered shoulders. He saw tears forming her in the eyes and knew good and well that she wanted to go home.

“Mica-please….can we go home-?” She begged as she fell into the old man’s arm desperate for a hug. All the joys from earlier when she was dancing with Fwhip and the others was gone. Not only did that wicked Duke of Weaseltown-or whatever it was- try setting her up but he made her confidence go down tremendously. Sure she was a young girl without a royal past. But that shouldn’t had matter should it? After all, the flowers had chose her.

“Shh dear…what happened?” Amica asked as he looked her into the eyes and ran his hands through her hair as comfort. Katherine was sensitive. He knew that. After everything she had been through, he didn’t blame her. The image of her in his arms reminded him of when he had first met her and she had first hugged him. He truly felt the need to protect his beloved ruler. And even if she wasn’t, he always saw her as his daughter. And always would.

Katherine told him about the terrors of the duke and how it made her feel and suddenly the regent felt anger fill his soul. If he could he would personally take care of the duke himself. But he couldn’t. Especially a man his age, he wouldn’t last five minutes.

“Shh my dear. I know it hurts. Don’t listen to him. That old man knows nothing. Especially how effective of a ruler you are. You make your people proud and, don’t worry, I promise I won’t let that nephew of his get even close to you. If he did I would finish him once and for all.

Katherine whimpered a bit as she sniffled into Amica’s shirt.

“Can we go home Mica? Please?” She felt herself feeling overstimulated from everything. All she wanted to do was sleep away the feeling.

“Shh…dear. We will go as soon as we can. Let’s go say goodbye to the others.” He gestured at Katherine to walk towards Fwhip, Sausage and Pearl. Fwhip seemed rather….odd to say the least. He appeared to be laughing up a giggling storm as his hand made strange movements in the air. He seemed to have noticed the two heading his way as he threw Sausage and Pearl who were holding him down onto the ground.

Fwhip appeared to have super strength when drunk….

“Katherine!” He waved as his body stumbled.

Katherine and Amica looked at each other and blinked. “Fwhip…? Are you okay?” She asked tilting her head. Sausage was on him again trying to get him to relax. “He’s drunk Katherine.”

Katherine had never seen Fwhip drunk. Neither had Amica. They were concerned. Very concerned.

“Oh uh…is he okay-?” Katherine asked unsure how drunk people acted. The Overgrown wasn’t a kingdom known for drunk people. She herself had never been around intoxicated individuals. Nor had Amica.

“Uh…”

….

Sausage gave a glance at Pearl who shrugged unsure how to answer. They both didn’t know that Katherine had no clue Fwhip and Gem were drunk. How could she not have seen this in the past? Then it came clear, maybe Fwhip and Gem didn’t want her to know what they looked like drunk. After all, it wasn’t very attractive to say the least.

“Uh-well…..” Sausage started. Thankfully Pearl helped him out with this. “I’m afraid both Fwhip and Gem have a weak tolerance to….such substances. Don’t worry they will be fine.” She quickly cleared up.

Katherine tilted her head while Amica blinked dumbstruck. He was unsure if he wanted his beloved princess and friend near intoxicated people.

We’re gonna go boom!!“ Fwhip giggled drunk as he could be. Sausage and Pearl both could tell that he was about to be sick and both knew they needed to get him home before he embarrassed himself anymore.

“We gotta go get him home.” Sausage sighed. He wished he could laugh at the twin but he couldn’t. Not when Gem had entrusted him and Pearl to handle this. He had to be responsible. He had to.

“Oh my….do you need my help?” Katherine asked from out of nowhere. She had forgotten about her feeling of pain and overstimulation and only wanted to help Fwhip. It was all she wanted to do. He was her friend, she had to help. She had to.

“Katherine.” Amica started. She looked at him and he shook his head. “I won’t stop you but don’t you think you should rest?” He cocked a gray brow. He of course knew what she was going to say. Knowing her for years meant this.

“I-uh-…” She started.

“Katherine, you don’t have to help us. We got this. But it would nice to be able to catch up on you. And….to help deal with getting this guy home.” Sausage ruffled the ginger’s hair making Fwhip shout at him in giggles.

Katherine thought for a moment before turning to Amica. “I will be fine Mica. I got this.” She smiled. Amica nodded. As long as your sure. Then I trust you.” He smiled gently at his friend. Katherine gave her regent a hug before going to Sausage and Pearl.

“Be careful you two. Don’t let anything happen to my princess.” Amica narrowed his eyes. Sausage and Pearl shrunk back as Katherine giggled a bit.

“Don’t worry Amica. Nothing will happen.” She smiled as a drunk Fwhip climbed playfully of Sausage.

“Ahh-we gotta get him home. He’s about to crash and burn.”

“What about Gem?” Katherine asked concerned.

“She uh….she’s also drunk. I know I know, she doesn’t seem like the girl to get drunk….It’s a long story. Don’t worry about her. Scott is taking her home.” Sausage quickly explained.

“Oh…”

Amica then turned silently. He seemed. To have either heard something. “Forgive me Kathy. I have business to attend to. Be careful, and you two better make sure she makes it home. Goodbye.” He quickly walked off in long strides. Sausage blinked as he couldn’t help but notice how Amica was going to talk to the Duke of Westleton.

“Alright…..?” Sausage cocked a brow. Suddenly Fwhip gave a whimper as he seemed to be feeling the affects Gem warned them about.

“We better get him home.” Pearl sighed. Katherine silently gave the sickly drunk a hug. “Your gonna be fine Fwhip, don’t worry.” She smiled.

“….hmmm….” He moaned in pain.

“He’s about to be sick. We better get him away.” Sausage quickly led the four away from the crowds of people. They arrived at the Grimlands’ carriage where the coachman looked confused at the four.

“Uhm….” Sausage, seeing how it must look quickly shook his head. “Don’t worry. Wizard Gem is going to be arrive home a different way.” He explained.

“Of course….?” The coachman blinked. With Fwhip passed out in their arms they quickly lifted him in the carriage where his head fell onto Katherine’s shoulder and moaned in his sleep.

“I’ll go tell our coaches to head home.” Pearl quickly left the carriage leaving Katherine and Sausage alone with the intoxicated count.

“So did you have a good time?” Sausage asked the flower princess. Katherine thought for a minute before answering. True, she had a good time dancing with Fwhip and the others. But she clearly hadn’t with that gosh forsaken duke. But she clearly couldn’t tell Sausage that. So she just nodded. “Of course! It was truly amazing!” She smiled.

“That’s good. I’m glad you had a good time. I had fun too. Gotta admit, wasn’t expecting that one woman to be there. What’s her name?” Sausage asked.

“Oh Princess Anastasia of Xethen? She’s beautiful isn’t she? They say she’s the most beautiful in all the lands….I must admit. I wish I was at her level of beauty.” Katherine admired the woman. She was so much older and so much more elegant. Oh how she wished she could be like the woman.

“She really thinks she’s all that? Man what a-forgive me I can’t say that with you in the room. Or this little guy.” Sausage patted the whimpering red head. Katherine held back a giggle as he did so.

“Apparently he and Anastasia danced. It was very interesting to watch.” Sausage laughed. Katherine tilted her head and widened her eyes. They danced? Had this happened when she was dancing with that horrid man? Katherine felt something in the pit of her chest but she was unsure of what it was. She assumed it was nerves.

“Oh uh-“ She tilted her head down.

“They danced?”

“Yeah! You should’ve seen it! Fwhip’s little face was so red!”

Katherine blinked.

“I see. I hope they had a good time.” She sighed quickly looking out the window. Pearl came back seconds later and was sitting by Sausage once again.

“There we go! All ready!” She cheerfully chatted on. Fwhip moaned once more in pain as he slept. The carriage started to move as the long way home started.

“You know he looks so sweet when he’s asleep.” Pearl smiled at the opposite side of the carriage where Katherine and Fwhip were. She giggled a bit while Sausage outright laughed.

“You guys should’ve seen him when he was born. His fat little cheeks. Good thing he never lost them.”

“I vaguely remember him as a child. Didn’t he have a head full of hair when he was born? I know Gem did.”

Sausage nodded. “He did. I remember when I got to hold him for the first time. He was so cute!”

Katherine listened admiring the fact that the two clearly loved Fwhip. As she did so his head gently fell and so did his body. Unconsciously, he laid down and rested his head down on Katherine’s lap. There he looked even more innocent.

“Awwww!!!” Pearl cooed. Sausage giggled as he wished he could have this memory forever.

“Katherine if only you could see what we are seeing. You both look so sweet and cute.” Pearl gleamed happily.

Katherine felt her cheeks turn red as she heard her allies and friends say this all.

Soon they arrived at the Eastvale Manor and was carrying Fwhip to his bed. The boy was whimpering in pain as Sausage carried him towards his room.

“Does he always act this way when he’s….intoxicated?” Katherine tilted her head. Pearl opened the door as they arrived in the messy room. It had papers all over the floor and even a unmade bed. Fwhip didn’t like maids and servants cleaning his personal space so there were webs and dust everywhere. Katherine sneezed at the clutter and blinked in shock.

“Yeah he does. First he gets all happy and then he’ll get sick and tired. Unfortunately, he has a low tolerance. And he also loves red wine too.” Pearl explained as Sausage laid Fwhip down.

“But why did he drink wine if he knew it would cause him so much pain?” Katherine worriedly pointed out. Pearl swallowed unsure of telling the flower princess. So instead she allowed the question to hang.

“Come on, let’s check on Fwhip.” She quickly gestured Katherine to walk over towards the boys. Sausage was removing his laced up boots to make him more comfortable.

“He’s gonna be so angry at us.” Pearl sighed as she removed his scarf to hang it up. “True. He will. But I don’t want his clothing to get messed up. Gem would kill us if we did.”

“That’s true. Katherine could you help remove Fwhip’s jacket? We can let the others stay.”

“Of course!” Katherine quickly undid Fwhip’s jacket and removed it with little difficulty. Then she pulled the covers up as he whimpered a bit in his sleep. “Aw. What a cute guy.” Sausage patted the boy’s head. “He’s going to have a major hangover tomorrow morning.”

“I hope he’ll be okay.” Katherine worriedly murmured. Pearl patted the shorter girl’s head. “Relax Katherine. He’s dealt with this before. He’ll probably just be embarrassed at the most.”

“And angry don’t forget.” Sausage held back a laugh. “We should get home-.” As he spoke a strangled sound came from the count’s mouth as Sausage turned to see the poor boy vomit everywhere. There was nothing but a liquid mess plastered all over the him and the covers. Fwhip said something unintelligible as Sausage quickly shooed Pearl and Katherine out of the room.

“Whoops! Uh Pearl get Katherine home while I care for Fwhip.” Sausage quickly stated.

“Are you sure Sausage?” Pearl asked with her accent thickly on display. Katherine tried to reach for Fwhip again but the king blocked the doorway. “Maybe I should stay with him.” Katherine murmured.

“Nope. This is my problem. Pearl get her home.” The Smallholding queen nodded and quickly took the young fairy’s hand. “Understood. Let’s go Kathy.”

“What! No! I wanna stay!” Katherine protested. “He’s my friend too.” Sausage and Pearl looked at each other and almost laughed. They didn’t say a word though. Katherine’s cheeks turned red in eagerness of wanting to stay.

“Fwhip’s doesn’t need your help Katherine. Come on.” With that Pearl dragged Katherine away from the boys as she protested.
