Initial thumbnails for the illustration, trying to balance the intimacy of the shot and a dynamic air to the whole thing. I chose the first composition as it felt the most emotional, with the two of them looking at each other.
First sketch, fixing the pose and composition by moving the leg in the back and preparing some line-art to guide me in the painting process.
Flat colours and background foundation, once again fixing areas of the face.
Added lighting and started shading, most of it done by painting over the flats without using many effects.
Finished product, with added lights and darkened background to let the main figures take centre stage.
