Notes:

Here we are, at the end, was a wild ride from the beginning of the original fic, to the end of this one. I’m not done with this au, I have a few more things planned for this au.

Chapter Text

Scar ended up not seeing Grian for the entirety of his shift, and to say Scar was worried would be an understatement. Normally Grian would be causing mischief at the bookstore, well, as much mischief as someone who can’t touch stuff or talk to people could. Scar’s co-workers were convinced he was insane because of Grian’s antics. So the bookstore just felt bland without Grian trying to make Scar laugh.

So Scar was surprised to see Grian, just, sitting on his chair.

“Grian!” Scar said happily, running over to his ghostly friend, “Where were you!? I was so worried!”

“Y’know, around,” Grian said with a grin, but Scar knew his friend well enough to know when Grian wasn’t really feeling it.

“Alright we’re talking feelings, what’s up?” Scar asked, sitting down on the floor.

“I talked to Zombie,” Grian said after a minute, “And uh, she offered to revive me, since apparently she can do that.”

“Oh yeah! Zombie is rumored to have powers like that! Though the Hero Tower hasn’t confirmed or denied it.”

“Well she offered to do it, and I said yes, but,” Grian paused, “but part of me is scared, like what if I don’t remember how to walk? What if I don’t remember how to fly!? How will me being alive impact our whole vigilante duo thing?”

Scar was quiet for a few minutes, simply listening as Grian let loose all of the anxieties that had been building up since his conversation with Zombie.

“I think you should do it,” Scar said finally, “you’ve always felt alone, even after we met, I think you should go through with it, I can take time off work to help you adjust, I’ve been saving up some money so you can also get a phone, might not be the best phone on the market, but It’ll work.”

Scar could tell that if Grian could cry he probably would at this moment from the look on his face.

“I wish I could hug you,” he said after a few beats of silence.

“You will soon enough,” Scar said, “now when and where is this whole reviving stuff going on?”

“Saturday, midnight at the old graveyard.”

“Alright, sounds like a plan!”

Saturday at midnight. That left three days to plan the cover story for why an avian would suddenly be appearing around town.

Finally, after three long days of waiting and planning a cover story, and worrying, and all that nonsense, but finally the day had arrived and the two were at the graveyard, waiting for Zombie. And they didn’t have to wait long, as a portal opened and Zombie and Void walked out into the graveyard.

“Hey, so we’re here to play god, correct?” Scar asked, causing Grian to laugh.

“Is it playing god when the gods gave you your powers?” Zombie asked in response.

“I guess it’s not,” Scar replied, “so what do we do?”

Cleo didn’t reply, pulling out a literal bag of salt, and drew a circle with it around Grian.

“You know the whole salt thing doesn’t work, right?”  Grian asked

“I’m aware, it's just we need a circle and I thought salt was on theme?” Cleo replied.

“Fair enough.”

“Hotguy, Void, stand in a circle with me,” Zombie said, holding out her hands, Scar and Void took them, holding each other's hands and suddenly the salt began to glow, and then a burning pain brought Grian to the floor, and that was the last thing he knew.

In what was possibly the worst timing known to man, Stars and Moon crashed into the graveyard right as Grian’s body had hit the floor.

Stars got to her feet, stared at the situation, two heroes and some vigilante standing in a circle around some random guy? That was pretty sus.

“Cult?” Stars asked.

“Cult,” Moon agreed.

And with that the two left without a word.

When Grian came too he was laying on a bed, it didn’t take long for Grian to recognize it as Scar’s bedroom, he rubbed his head, getting up as memories cam flooding back, he looked down at his hand, holy shit. Grian used to be able to see right through them, but now, they were actually tangible.

Zombie had actually revived him!

“Grian? You awake?” Scar asked, walking in with a plate of food, which probably smelled mediocre in reality, but to Grian it smelled amazing, due to it being the first thing Grian had smelled in centuries.

“Yeah, I’m awake,” Grian said, tears coming to his eyes. He was no longer a ghost, at long last, he was alive once more.

It had been about a year since Grian was revived, and he was ready to make his entrance as the vigilante known as Cuteguy, the lovable sidekick of Hotguy. Grian was the lookout, using his wings to get a view of the crime scene, and Scar would use his mastery of the bow to take down the bad guys. Grian did have an axe for self defense.

His debut would mark history, as he was the first, and only, avian to be tangled up in this world of heroes, villains, and of course, Vigilantes.
