Chapter Text
“Are you sure you’ll be fine on your own?” Jake said for what felt like the millionth time, which honestly offended Neteyam as he all but pushed his dad out of the door.
“Dadddd, trust me I got this, it’s just one evening and you and mum deserve a break and time to yourselves” Neteyam assured. “We’ll just watch a movie and call it a night” he promised, pointing to Lo’ak, Tuk and Kiri who waved back whilst sitting quietly on the sofa.
“Now gooooo, mum is waiting for you, you know she has been waiting for this all week”, that was the final push that convinced Jake to finally sigh and leave, giving Neteyam one last warning that if something did happen, he should immediately call them.
Neteyam made sure that his parents were well past their road now and he kept looking until their car disappeared around the corner before sighing in relief.
He turned around coming face to face with all his siblings who were looking expectantly at him, “Well, have they gone?” Lo’ak asked dropping the whole good boy reading on the couch act.
Neteyam nodded before breaking into a mischievous smile “They’re gone, we have the entire night to ourselves!”.
“Yayyyyyyy so what are we doing?” Tuk interjected enthusiastically, she wasn’t sitting on the sofa anymore and had instead migrated to the carpet.
“You are going to your room with Kiri while we invite over some people” Lo’ak replied matter of fact, he would have brought up the argument that Tuk was just a kid, but that argument didn’t hold much when he was the one that stuck his tongue out at Tuk.
“But why?” Tuk interjected, “The only friends you have are Tsireya and Ao’nung and they like me better than the two of you combined”.
At this Kiri snorted out loud before standing from the sofa, she gave a bored look at her brothers before taking Tuk’s hand “Tuk let’s go to my room and watch a movie while we let the losers hang out here, it’s going to be boring anyways”.
Kiri had her back to Lo’ak, but she could still sense that he was secretly mocking her from behind her back, oh two could play at that game she thought mischievously before helping Tuk up the stairs. She was about to make his life hell.
“Okay now that that’s taken care of let me send a message that they could leave”, truth be told Lo’ak had the message already typed out on his phone eager to have Tsireya come over as it would be the first time after all.
As he sent the message Lo’ak could feel his brother’s intense stare on him making him sigh before looking up “What now? Why are you waving your braids at me like that?”.
Crossing his arms Neteyam shook his head before going to their kitchen to prepare some snacks for their guests. Even though this was behind his parent’s backs, he still held his parent’s standards of being a good host.
And that was part of the problem wasn’t it? Doing this while their parents were out on their anniversary date when really if they had asked them they would have agreed to have the others over. But also their parents were freaking nosy and Neteyam had no doubt that both his dad and mum would be extra embarrassing with them.
Fuck it, the message was sent so the least he could do was follow his mum’s example and prepare Doritos, popcorn, and drinks for the guests.
After he was done, he placed the refreshments on their coffee table waiting for the guests to arrive. And really, Neteyam felt highly entertained while he waited as he watched his brother getting all worked up and nervous at the thought of Tsireya coming over. His baby brother was just so hopeless sometimes he mused.
“For the last time, will you stop looking at me” Lo’ak whined, he had begun to pace around their living room at that moment, a text from Tsireya saying they were close making him restless “You’re making me nervous” he confessed at last.
“I think you are doing a marvellous job all on your own” Neteyam fought back and really it was so damn easy to rile his brother up and cause him to lash out. It was a talent at this point.
He sat on the sofa figuring that contrary to his brother, panicking would solve nothing and instead Neteyam decided to find a good movie for them to watch. He had barely skimmed the first few titles being recommended before someone was knocking at their door.
He heard Lo’ak mutter shit under his breath before taking a deep breath in, for a moment they both stood staring at each other daring one another to go open the door before Lo’ak finally sighed muttering that damn he should grow a pair of balls because this was just getting embarrassing at this point.
Opening the door Lo’ak found both Tsireya and Ao’nung waiting for them and damn, he had forgotten just how beautiful Tsireya was. Facetime didn’t do her enough justice as Lo’ak felt himself gasp, especially when her eyes had lit up and gotten bigger as if smiling when he looked at her.
“Damn didn’t your parents teach you that it’s rude to keep guests waiting” Ao’nung snickered, and there it was, the moment was broken. Eywa help him Lo’ak thought internally as he made way for the both of them to come in, did they really have to invite her annoying brother too?
“Welcome to the Sully household” Neteyam greeted, he gave his best smile and waved the others over to join him on the sofa. Damn, why was his brother so much cooler than him when under pressure Lo’ak thought miserably.
They all finally settled and sat down, Ao’nung sitting on Neteyam’s side while Tsireya sat near Lo’ak causing the latter’s ears to tuck in like a cat’s, shit he couldn’t believe he was blushing right now just from Tsireya sitting next to him.
“You have a lovely home,” Tsireya said taking a quick look around and in the process, her black curly hair effortlessly twirled around her like she had her own personal wind ready at her disposal.
“Thank you for inviting us” she finished, giving Lo’ak what he had categorised as Tsireya’s heart smile.
(Cause the loser obviously had different names for Tsireya’s different smiles)
“So uhm, want to watch a movie?” Neteyam had decided to take control of the situation seeing as his brother had no rizz and was just making things more awkward, Neteyam chose the first movie he could find and put it on.
He tried to hide his smile as Lo’ak handed Tsireya the bowl of popcorn like it was a peace offering, before looking ahead to watch the film. But really who was he kidding? There was no way he was actually paying attention to what the movie was about.
An hour into the movie, Lo’ak found himself unable to break the slight awkwardness that had enveloped the room and maybe only he was the one that could feel it as Tsireya looked to be enjoying the movie.
His brother was no help anymore as he had dozed off after the first twenty minutes resting his head on Ao’nung’s shoulder, the latter’s eyes had almost popped out of his sockets, and he was ready to violently shove Neteyam off. But that’s before Neteyam had the audacity to let out the cutest snore in existence, like damn Ao’nung thought it should be illegal, how can you punch someone off when they snored like a kitten?
Sighing and accepting defeat Ao’nung let Neteyam sleep but not before giving a look at Lo’ak to mouth what the fuck is happening under his breath to which Lo’ak simply shrugged.
This wasn’t exactly how Lo’ak had imagined Tsireya’s first visit to be and really his dad taught him better dammit, gathering a bit of courage especially since Neteyam was fast asleep and wasn’t there to judge him Lo’ak nudged Tsireya’s shoulder gently before pointing upstairs “Hey do you want to see my room?”.
And Eywa help him, if Tsireya refused, Lo’ak knew he would be crushed and would never leave the house again but instead to his surprise Tsireya smiled before nodding enthusiastically. Quietly they left making sure to not wake up Neteyam all the while Ao’nung complained for them not to leave him alone but at the first hint of Neteyam waking up he quickly shut up and accepted his fate.
Climbing up the stairs Lo’ak took Tsireya around the corner to where his room was, already thinking about whether to show Tsireya his game console (lmao this sounds wrong ) or his collection of hot wheels cars (because they were cool).
They had almost made it and Lo’ak had just about taken hold of the door knob before the opposite door burst open revealing Kiri who had casually leaned against her door.
“Hello Kiri, I thought you weren’t home” Tsireya answered honestly, she liked Kiri especially since she always had knowledge of anything concerning animals or nature.
Kiri merely raised her eyebrow at Lo’ak before giving Tsireya a genuine smile “Oh you know, Tuk and I are quite busy here” she said cryptically.
“Oh and I wouldn’t enter his room if I were you, it’s a biohazard in there,” she said at last which caused Tsireya to laugh, Lo’ak would have told his sister to fuck off weren’t for Kiri’s next words “Do you want to join us? we are looking at old baby photos my parents had”.
Tsireya immediately smiled before looking at Lo’ak and shit this was Kiri’s revenge wasn’t it Lo’ak thought horrified but shit he couldn’t deny Tsireya not when she was smiling at him like that.
He nodded much to Tsireya’s delight when she asked to see them and that’s how they ended up in Kiri’s room looking at their old photo albums while Tuk and Tsireya giggled between themselves, and Kiri looked at Lo’ak as if to say, “see bitch this is how payback is done”.
“Lo’ak you look so cute in all of these!” Tsireya let out, she already had her hands full with different polaroids and it was at that moment that she envied not having five fingers like Lo’ak and Kiri to carry more photos.
“Awwww look at your cheeks in this one, they look so soft and squishy ah where are your mochi cheeks now Lo’ak”. And really this kept going on for too much time and Lo’ak could do nothing except smile whenever Tsireya looked at him and mutter fuck you to Kiri whenever Tsireya looked away.
“Lo’ak look what I found,” Tuk said excitedly as she hopped from Kiri’s green bean bag before skipping to where Lo’ak and Kiri were on the bed.
“Remember, this photo of when dad had to fight you for the pacifier because you didn’t want to let it go---" Tuk didn’t manage to let the last few words out before she screamed as Lo’ak took the polaroid from her, she was this close to shrieking again before Kiri manage to wrestle the photo from Lo’ak.
“Kiri, this isn’t funny anymore give it back to me” Lo’ak pleaded and damn come on guys Tsireya was right here witnessing all this. It looked like Kiri was thinking it over and she did hand it over to Lo’ak for a second before snatching it right back, she stuck her tongue out before dashing out of her room her words carrying with her “Come and get it then bitch”.
Oh, it was on.
He could be mature and just let it go, let Kiri have a bit of a laugh cause at the end of the day he knew that Tsireya at least liked him a little. That would be the responsible thing to do but that was not the Lo’ak way. So instead he gave one last look at Tsireya who looked confused before dashing straight out of the room to get even.
Following Lo’ak as he went down the stairs, Tuk and Tsireya found themselves in the weirdest situation as Lo’ak and Kiri were on the ground mid-fight as Ao’nung had shushed the entire room to remain quiet and not wake Neteyam up.
Time seemed to stop and freeze as they saw Neteyam fidgeting in his sleep before opening his eyes slowly, his face confused as everything started to clear up and he could see everyone staring at him.
Well fuck It since he was awake now Lo’ak thought, he threw the first punch at Kiri aiming to surprise her to drop the photo but that only resulted in Kiri giving him a hiss before tackling him to the ground.
Seeing her siblings fighting Tuk hissed herself before grabbing the closest thing she could find on the table, the bowl of popcorn which she threw right in Lo’ak’s face to give Kiri time to escape.
Kiri using the new opportunity grabbed one of the couch pillows, the long horizontal one to be exact you know the ones that are hard as a freaking brick before she proceeded to hit Lo’ak square in the face with it.
And then it was war.
Tuk grabbed a pillow herself and so did Lo’ak, seeing the others all with a weapon, Tsireya, Ao’nung and Neteyam even though he had just woken up didn’t want to be left out, so they grabbed a pillow themselves.
At that point everyone had forgotten why they had been fighting and instead, it turned into a big competition to see who could outlast the others. The pillows were the main weapon but as more time passed, Neteyam was throwing the empty cups and Tsireya herself was throwing Doritos (the sharp pointy end of course) towards anyone that had come in her path.
They stopped only because they had run out of ammunition as the pillows went flat and the entire living room was covered in loose white feathers, bits of popcorn and empty plastic cups.
They all stopped to look at each other for a moment before each of them burst into laughter at the absurdity of what had just happened thinking Damn this was actually a lot of fun.
And then their worst nightmare came true as they heard the front door open causing them to stare comically at each other for a moment, all with the same thought raging in their mind.
Shit, their parents had arrived.
Panic erupted in everyone before the Sully siblings that is Neteyam, Kiri and Tuk all gave each other a very significant look- if their parents asked, they would blame it all on Lo’ak.
