FAQs (or: an extended author's note/self-indulgent rambling where I try to explicate some of the decisions that got made en route for anybody who's interested, this is mostly me vibing, because this has lived rent-free in my head for long enough that I occasionally have fever-dreams of population counts in requisite Districts and/or their production outputs relative to their size and/or provisioning requirements ahahahahahah)

Names

The names! All names given to OCs were derived from the canonical naming habits that each District has in canon, as best I could; most Hunger Games canon names are 'loosely inspired by the District's produce' or - for Capitol especially - are classical Roman/Latin names. That said, try finding names for the 'Transportation District' or 'Power District'. Attempts were made, not always well, but I did my level best.

The wacky one is District Four. Mainly because 'Finnick Odair' does not have anything to do with fish, as best I could establish - plus, Killian was an obvious District Four-er, in initially sketching this; between 'Odair', 'Flanagan' (for Mags), 'Killian', 'Jim Moriarty' and "how in the name of all things unholy do I fix the fact that these canon characters have very defined accents in their requisite canons", District Four became Irish when I wasn't paying attention. So there's that. Which is probably good, as I would've run out of fish-related puns very quickly otherwise.

Language & Accent

Speaking of Irish-District-Four: Raoul Silva is canonically Spanish, and written as such. Regina is mixed-race Latin American.

Obviously, this is fairly heavily suppressed in a dictatorial nation; that said, language has a funky lil habit of surviving anyway. I'll note now that my Spanish and/or Irish Gaelic is non-existent and mostly the product of improvised Googling and allowances being made for language-degradation-in-a-longstanding-dictatorship; if you find an error or egregious problem, let me know, I love to learn.

Crossover-y Stuff

As a general rule, I am endeavouring to keep the series fandom-agnostic (in the sense that knowing canon is not required in order to follow the characters and/or plot and/or event chain). A few relevant notes en route, though:

• If you think it's a reference, it's probably a reference. Possibly including to fandoms-not-otherwise-specified.
• I've generally endeavoured to keep character arcs - or at least, story beats - reflected within the wider story, though only insofar as canon allows; in some cases, this is lots. In some cases, not very much at all. Particularly given that in most instances, the characters are very young at the point of introduction, with corresponding lack of maturity. And then a fuckton of trauma. The endpoint is, realistically, 'honouring the character(s) home canons inasmuch as that is viable but we're also moving a fair whack beyond that by now'.
  • Please see Killian for perhaps the most aggressive example of 'the earliest canon version we see of Killian Jones in OUAT is definitely not one who would've done well in this canon'. And then promptly didn't. Plus his entire character arc is so heavily attached to specific canon events (where Regina, for example, is more shaped by demonstrable trauma - which can be repatriated fairly easily) that he's an interesting example of 'if you took that canon version and put him here, I think this is what falls out, but damn could that've gone a fair number of ways'.
• Knowing canon will sometimes help you, it will sometimes be Very Misleading. I'm gonna say this to avoid future expectations/predictions that may or may not come true. C'est la vie.
