Chapter Text
Peter was happy to just swing around although he’d have to cut the crime fighting short tonight. The weird miniature skull was secured in his suit and he planned on giving it up to Tony. Sure with the stuff in the lab he could probably run some scans on it and stuff but man .. he’d actually rather sleep tonight.
He swung up to the tower's balcony and entered the building. No one was sitting in the large communal area and so Peter moved on to poke his head into the kitchen and there, sitting on the counter as though it never belonged anywhere else, was a black cat who locked its yellow yet almost white looking eyes with his.
Peter cooed immediately and entered the room carefully as though not to scare the animal.
“Hey little guy, who brought you in here?”
He slowly reached out his hand and held it in front of the cat's face to let it smell him, yet it still only continued to stare at him.
“Underoos! When did you get here?”
Peter quickly turned around to face Tony and a wide smile spread across his face.
“Hey Mr Stark, just got here but who’s-“ he turned back around yet the cat- “It's gone?”
“What is?”
“The uhh, the cat.”
“You sure you got enough sleep, kid? You know I'm deathly allergic to those little beasts.”
"It's a mild allergy at best but yeah, it was sitting there just now. Jarvis?"
“My censors do not pick up any animals within the floor.”
The AI's monotone voice droned from the ceiling and Peter's head was swimming in confusion.
“See? And don't you dare bring some stray in here again, let's go to the lab kid. I've got one interesting equation for you!”
Peter reluctantly followed Tony with one last look back towards the counter before they went down the elevator. He knew he didn’t just imagine a random cat sitting there. He knew that.
Morpheus was watching the other in interest. The child definitely had the skull on his person, he had made sure of that.
„You came to him.. as a cat.“ It was more a statement than a question so Morpheus didn't bother responding to his old friend. „-you broke into the Avengers tower?“
He did scoff at that though.
„Hardly Hob. I merely followed his consciousness and projected myself into his mind.“
"Ah, of course.“ The man took a sip of his tea and shoved the long forgotten papers he had been grading to the side. „How was he?“ He asked, earning an amused smile.
“Young.“
“Come on! Even I look like a controversially young girlfriend next to you, give me some details.“
„You hardly define as young anymore Hob.“
“Ouch, way to break my delusions, love.“ He smiled expectantly at the Endless who kept his gaze fondly.
“He is athletic and has a smart and dare I say bright mind. Though I meant what I said, he was surprisingly young.“
Hob hummed in acknowledgment and paused a few seconds before continuing on.
“So what exactly is your plan here? I’m sure you could’ve taken the skull back by now.”
And Morpheus had to agree. It would have been easy to just confront the young boy and take back what was his, the creation of a new Dream, the revival of Gault. He shook his head and stood up, Hob quick to do so as well.
“I will see you soon, old friend.”
Dream leaned forwards and gave the other a soft kiss. Hob smiled brightly as he pulled back and slowly sat back down again pulling the papers of his students close to him again.
“Goodbye love!”
