Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Chapter Text

“And where do you think you’re going?”

Spinning around Joff looked at his sisters, aunt and uncle. As soon as the young prince had heard the plot against his brothers and uncles he had ran straight to the Dragonpit. He was attempting to put on his riding gear when Baela had spoken.

Launching himself at his sisters he started to babble out all he had heard. “Please, please say you believe me.”

Baela and Rhaena looked at each other then at their brother, it was Rhaena who answered him, “Of course we believe you, sweetling.”

“How can you be sure? Didn’t you say Joff has a fanciful imagination?,” asked Daeron, who when h saw Joff had shuffled behind Helaena. Daeron had no shame with doing that. Joff was a sweetheart with Helaena. He wasn’t with Daeron.

“He has his tells. When he lies he pulls at his tunic and avoids looking at the eyes.”

Helaena walked over to one of the Dragon keepers, who had been watching the young royals with curiosity, and ordered that their dragons be ready to fly as soon as possible. “It’s such a nice day out, it would be a shame to keep the dragons cooped up. My family and I have decided to spend the afternoon together. Oh, and make sure Dreamfyre has the two rider saddle. The princess Rhaena will be riding with me.” All this was said with a gracious smile. As she was walking back to the group Daeron came up beside her.

“Bu…but Helaena shouldn’t we get more help? Daemon? Cole?”

“No time Daeron. Plus Father wants the family to bond. And what better bonding experience then rescuing family.”

“But that was our brothers and nephews not us!”

“Come on Daeron!”

“And they say if you listen closely you can still hear the screams from the Dreadfort.”

Luke looked at his audience and was pleased to see that the Cargyll twins were glancing at the woods nervously, Aegon and Jace were clutching each other, fear in their eyes. Even Aemond looked unnerved.

“So you liked my story? I thought of it when Aegon mentioned his Stark werewolf story.”

“Liked it? It was bloody terrifying. Always thought those Boltons were odd.”

“Please, please Luke don’t tell that story to Joff. Lord Bolton won’t appreciate being threatened with a wooden steak and bulbs of garlic. Cregan already has a headache with them.”

Turning to Jace with narrowed eyes Aegon gritted out, “Cregan? Why are you on first name terms with Stark?”

“Um, mother thought a correspondence between the two of us would be good for me. He inherited Winterfell young and I’ll be taking over Dragonstone in the next few years, his advice would be a great thing to have. And it’s not just me. Luke has a correspondence with Dalton Greyjoy.”

Aemond who up until that moment was enjoying watching his brother’s little fit of jealousy now turned to Luke with his own jealousy building, “Why are you writing to Greyjoy?”

“Ur, well that was Grandsire Corlys’ idea. He thought it would be good for me to correspond with another young seafarer.”

“But Greyjoy? Didn’t Vaemond have sons?”

“Um, yes but they don’t like me.”

Aegon got up from the little nest he and Jace had made. Stretching and trying not to irritate his still sore skin further, he groaned out, “Well that’s decided, for my first diplomatic mission on my sister’s council I will be taking a trip north. I may also take Joff, but for now I need to pee.” And with that he jogged into the woods.

“Well that feels better. Er, can I help you gentlemen? What are you doing with that sack? Argh!”

“One down five to go.”

“Er, boss. Weren’t we supposed to kill him?”

“Not right now. It will be much more satisfying to kill them in front of each other.”

Clinging to Helaena’s waist Rhaena turned her head when she heard a loud rumble of what she believed to be thunder, odd as the sky was a clear blue, gasping at who actually made the noice she turned back to Helaena.

“Helaena look back.”

The blonde turned, her eyes widening. Behind them, following at a steady pace, was Vhagar, Arrax, Sunfyre and Vermax.

Notes:

So this was my first fic ever so forgive me if it’s rusty and rushed. The idea came the other night and wouldn’t let me go. Kudos and comments are welcome.
