Chapter Text
15 months later…
"Rose petals, check! Cabernet Sauvignon, check! Kimchi jjigae, che-Sarang, no!" Yoongi very quickly picked Sarang up from the coffee table and set her down on the floor before covering the pot so she couldn't get into it again. "I know your appa lets you eat off his plate when he shouldn't, but that is not for you." He went through his checklist one more time and slid his hand into his pocket to make sure the ring was still in there before breathing out a sigh of relief. "It'll be perfect." He whispered to himself.
Familiar cries filled the apartment, prompting Yoongi to pad to the kitchen where Minji was sitting by the food bowls, meowing at the top of his lungs. "Dinner's coming, babies." Yoongi assured all three of them, as even Chingu had crawled out from under the couch to go wait for his food.
As Yoongi finished pouring food into their individual bowls, he heard the familiar beeping sounds of their keypad, meaning Jimin was home. He quickly put the food back in the pantry and nearly tripped over his feet getting back to the living room. Settling in front of the dinner set up, Yoongi sank down to one knee just as Jimin burst into the apartment, kicking his shoes off with no care for if they actually ended up in their designated spot by the door. "Jagiya, you're never gonna believe what I-" Jimin stopped short, eyes widening as he took in Yoongi and what was waiting for him. Meanwhile, Yoongi's focus on proposing to Jimin shifted as he spotted the dark brown fluffball currently in his boyfriend's hands. "What-"
"Is that a kitten?"
Jimin's surprise dissipated for a moment, a bright smile spreading across his face as he held the kitten up slightly so Yoongi could see it better. "She--at least I'm pretty sure it's a girl--was in a puddle near the studio and her eomma wasn't anywhere around and I couldn't just leave her, especially not when she's this little…" He trailed off, eyebrows furrowing once again as he took in the dinner and rose petals once more. "What is…" He gasped quietly as his gaze landed on the ring Yoongi was still holding up, panic flashing in his eyes. "You're proposing?" He practically squeaked.
"Yeah, I-" Yoongi was cut off by Jimin rapidly shaking his head.
"No, no, no." Jimin began to ramble. "You can't be proposing right now. The time isn't right. I'm all gross from dancing all day and I'm drenched from rain and I'm wearing my oldest sweats and I have a huge pimple on my forehead-"
While Yoongi highly disagreed with the reasons Jimin was providing, he agreed that it obviously wasn't the right time to propose. After all it was supposed to be a happy memory, not one of his boyfriend having a panic attack. "Baby, breathe." Yoongi said with the same soft tone he used anytime Jimin's anxiety made an appearance, slipping the ring back into his pocket as he stood up. "Ring's gone, no proposal." Jimin gave a tiny nod, taking a few deep breaths. "Let's just focus on this kitten." Yoongi then suggested as Jimin gradually calmed down. "Why don’t you go clean her up while I run to the store to get some kitten supplies." Jimin nodded again, turning to head to their bedroom only to be stopped by the realization that Chingu, Sarang, and Minji were all crowding around them, sniffing in curiosity.
"What do you think, babies-" Sarang interrupted by hissing, swatting her paw in the air even though she was nowhere near close enough to even do anything. "Sarang, no, be nice to your new little sister." Yoongi didn't even bother to point out that they hadn't discussed if they were going to keep the kitten or take her to the café or another shelter as he went to put his shoes on, seeing as there was no point since Jimin had obviously already laid his claim on her.
After getting some kitten food, kitten litter, a new litter box, new food and water bowls, and a new cat bed since he knew Jimin would scold him for leaving him out even though, as Yoongi had pointed out multiple times, none of their cats had ever used their cat beds, Yoongi returned home to find Minji and Chingu sniffing at the closed bedroom door while Sarang was attempting to push the lid off the kimchi jjigae. With a sigh, Yoongi set his shopping bag down on the counter and grabbed the pot, moving it into the fridge so Sarang couldn't get to it. Then he opened one of the cans of wet food, scooping a small amount of it into a spoon and placing the rest in the refrigerator to preserve it. He carried the spoon over to their bedroom and carefully opened the door just enough to slip inside without letting Minji and Chingu into the room.
Jimin was sitting on the bed, smiling at the now clean and dry kitten sniffing around the blanket. He didn't even look up at Yoongi as he announced, "I named her Dalkomhan."
"Because she's sweet?" Yoongi guessed, earning a quiet giggle from Jimin as he carefully climbed onto the bed without disturbing Dalkomhan. Then he held the spoon out towards the kitten, letting her sniff at the food until she felt secure enough to start licking it. "So we know she likes the salmon flavor, just like Sarang." Yoongi said, gently petting the tiny kitten as she ate.
"She's gonna fit right in." Jimin giggled before falling quiet, his bottom lip going between his teeth. In the past, Yoongi would have immediately asked him what was wrong, but now he knew that it was better to let Jimin sort through his thoughts and speak on his own time. Sure enough, by the time Dalkomhan was finished with her food, Jimin was saying, "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to-"
"But I am." Jimin pouted, gesturing towards the door and the living room beyond it. "You'd obviously planned that out for a while, and I ruined it by freaking out."
Yoongi shook his head, taking Jimin's hand in his and squeezing it. "You didn't ruin anything."
Jimin continued to pout for a few seconds but eventually sighed. "Even still…I feel like I need to assure you that I wasn't freaking out because of the proposal itself." Jimin said. "It was because…I just…I've always had this image of when I would get engaged. Like, what outfit I would be wearing, how I'd fix my hair, what I would say…and this…" He gestured to himself. "This wasn't what I'd imagined."
"I get that." Yoongi hummed, squeezing Jimin's hand again. "I've imagined what it would be like when I got engaged too. And you know how I pictured it?" Jimin tilted his head. "That it would be to you, regardless of what either of us were wearing or how our hair looked, hell I didn't even have any speech or anything planned out." A smile slowly spread across Jimin's face. "I can propose to you at any time because I know that we're going to spend the rest of our lives together. So just tell me when, and I'll drop to my knees right then."
A giggle escaped Jimin again, his eyes growing teary. He dabbed at his eyes to keep the tears from coming out before speaking. "Do it now."
"Are you sure?" Jimin nodded, so Yoongi used his free hand to reach into his pocket and pull the ring back out, holding it out towards Jimin. "Will you marry me?"
"No." Jimin said before laughing, making Yoongi roll his eyes and sigh in exasperation. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. Yes, I'll marry you." He held his left hand out so Yoongi could slide the ring onto his fourth finger before cupping Yoongi's face and pulling him into a sweet, loving kiss.
The kiss lasted until Yoongi felt tiny claws and teeth attacking his toes, causing him to pull out of the kiss so he could gently move Dalkomhan away from his feet. "Not my toes, little one."
Jimin giggled and gave the kitten a few head scritches. "I'm gonna go shower and then we can have the dinner that my fiance so lovingly cooked for me." He climbed off the bed and, after leaning down to kiss Yoongi one more time, skipped off to the bathroom.
