Chapter Text

Hawks slowly opened his eyes, feeling a sense of daze. As he struggled to gather his bearings, he realized he was lying on a couch, with his leg wrapped in a bandage. The voice of a familiar villain, Dabi, echoed through the room, bringing Hawks back to reality.

"You're awake, birdie," Dabi remarked, casually sitting down beside him. "I told the League what went down this morning, would you believe that they did not believe?"

Confusion filled Hawks' mind as he tried to recall the events leading up to his current situation. "Morning? What time is it? How long was I out?" he asked, readjusting himself to a sitting position.

"It's now 3 am, so you were out for... around 16 hours? Yeah, about that," Dabi replied nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders.

Hawks widened his eyes, realizing the repercussions he might face for being absent for such a long period. "Wow, I'm going to have a hard time explaining this to Madam President. If they don't kill me, that is," he mused, looking at Dabi. "Are you going to kill me?"

Dabi scoffed at the notion. "Really? Do you think we would let you sleep and bleed all over this couch just to kill you? Come on now," he retorted.

Hawks fell silent, his mind racing with uncertainty about what fate awaited him. "What are you all going to do to me, then?" he finally voiced his concerns.

Dabi leaned back in his chair, adopting a relaxed posture. "I don't know. The boss and the rest of the members are looking through the Dive," he explained.

"Dive?" Hawks questioned, puzzled by the term.

"Yeah, the one you said you were going to 'throw in the sea'," Dabi replied, making air quotes.

Realization washed over Hawks as he realized the implications of his previous statement. "Oh, shit," he thought, a sinking feeling settling in.

Dabi noticed Hawks' unease, "Don't worry, your pretty little head. You saved me, so the other members are going to repay you by not killing or hurting you." he reassured him

Just then, a lady entered the room, “ The boss will like to see you.” announced. Dabi rose from his seat, motioning for Hawks to follow. Feeling numb and uncertain, Hawks followed closely behind.

They arrived in a dimly lit room, and Hawks couldn't help but think, 'Yep, I'm gonna die.' He was made to sit on a stool, and as the light flickered on, he mustered his trademark smile. “What a lovely welcome.” Hawks said

One by one, Shigaraki, Toga, Twice, Mr. Compress, and Spinner emerged, taking their seats on the couch. Hawks prepared himself to speak, “So-”

Hawks was stopped by a hand. “Drop the act.” Shigaraki said out of the blue. “we watched the footage from the dive.” Shigaraki explained.

“We just want an explanation, of what we just watched.” Mr. Compress continued.

“On what exactly?” Hawks looked at them well composed.

Toga couldn't contain her impatience, jumping up "Where did the two ladies take Haruki?" she demanded,

Hawks remained silent for a moment, and then he felt a hand on his shoulder. "Don't feed us bullshit, tell us the truth. The guy said that you were sending him off to his death. I don't think he's fine," Dabi said, stepping in front of Hawks.

“Sent off to his death?” Spinner's eyes widen. “What do you mean by that?

Hawks let out a sigh, his mask dropping. 'I might die anyway,' he thought. "The Commission sent me to get information out of him. When he wouldn't comply, I had to give him up to them so they could try to extract the information themselves."

Mr. Compress's expression darkened. "And what are they doing to him now?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Hawks looked down, his hair obscuring his face. There was no need for him to answer. They already knew.

"You work for the Commission?" Spinner added, his tone laced with disbelief.

“I don’t work for the commission, I work with them.” Hawks corrected.

Compres stood up, his expression grave. "Could you expand on that?"

"I'm a member of the organization," Hawks calmly stated. "So is this just an interrogation?"

"Why are you so calm about this?" Dabi asked, puzzled.

"If I had a dollar for every time I found myself in a situation like this, where I'm sitting in a dimly lit room being questioned, you'd all be small millionaires," Hawks replied, getting up from the couch and taking a seat.

And then it finally dawned on him.

"My wings," Hawks said.

Dabi held up a syringe, a smirk playing on his lips. "Oh yeah, after seeing what you can do with those, we decided to use this."

Hawks nodded, "'They used the drug on me, smart."

"Your quirk is sure to come back any time now," Dabi continued.

"So why am I here?" Hawks stood up, his expression unreadable.

"Okay, we have a proposition for you," Shigaraki announced, rising from his seat.

"I'm not joining the League of Villains if that's what you're offering," Hawks responded without hesitation.

"Let us finish," Shigaraki insisted.

Hawks sat back down, listening attentively.

"Because of you, one of our own is alive. So we won't kill you, but under one condition: you provide us with a proper explanation. We're interested," Shigaraki explained.

"I can't do that. The information is classified, and if it gets out, it will create chaos," Hawks looked up at Shigaraki, his tone firm.

"I'm not asking you to reveal classified information. I understand your situation," Shigaraki responded, sensing Hawks' hesitation. "But you must understand ours as well. We need to know what the HSPC is up to, and we believe you're our best chance at finding out."

"We have footage we can release to the public," Shigaraki added, his voice resolute.

"So, we're not asking you; we're telling you. You're lucky we're not killing you. The least you can do is explain more to us. It's just between us and no one else," Spinner stepped forward, his gaze piercing.

"So, you're blackmailing me," Hawks sighed, more of a statement than a question. 'It would be better if they killed me,' he thought. He got up, ready to leave. "You know what, fine." Hawks began walking away, his frustration evident.

Dabi quickly stepped in front of him, blocking his path. "Hold up, birdie. This isn't a blackmail situation. We're not like that. We just want to learn more. That's all."

"I can see you're feeling overwhelmed, so we'll give you three days. Come back with the regular information you've been giving us, and also answer all of our questions," Dabi added.

"Yeah, we're just curious," Twice chimed in, reminding Hawks of his presence.

"Okay, you know what they say: curiosity killed the cat," Hawks quipped before finally leaving the room.

"What have I gotten myself into?" Hawks pondered as he flew through the sky.
