    Birthdays were never something Sanemi ever enjoyed. As a kid, his family was too poor to really do individual celebrations, and now it just felt like a sore subject. However, Giyuu looked unusually excited to celebrate his damn birthday. There was no way he could object. He just couldn’t say no.

    “Alright,” he sighed, “Let’s go, you obviously have something planned.”

    To Sanemi, something about witnessing the other side of Giyuu always felt wrong. Like he was intruding into a life he was not meant to see, so staying out of it as much as he could was his only solution. He wasn't anywhere near embarrassed by his scaly boyfriend, it felt more like a beautiful secret he wasn't supposed to know. Giyuu wasn’t exactly open about his past or his life as a mermaid, a merman? Whatever the fuck the correct term was. It didn’t matter, Giyuu was sitting snug in his bathtub and Sanemi still had to make sure he was okay.

    Or the sequel to Blue Scales Blue Sea that no one asked for.
