Chapter Text
Once Sunny and Aubrey finished their meal together and cleaned up the plates and utensils. They both decided to stay on the couch for the time being, the pink haired girl taking the opportunity to take advantage of the TV plan that he had, settling on a music channel. Sunny himself didn’t quite like Aubrey’s music, the girl preferring more modern and loud songs while he personally enjoyed the classic stuff even despite what he experienced. Though he nonetheless listened, surprisingly tapping his foot to the beat and listening to it carefully, though it was a bit grating to him, he got used to it.
He slowly turned to his left to watch as Aubrey mimed the movements of a guitar, the pink haired girl silently following the lyrics of the song as though she was singing it herself. Her eyes closed as she got a feel for the song, causing Sunny to smile as she watched her follow along with the song. Continuing to tap his foot to the beat until the song ended, watching Aubrey raise her hand up to the air as though she finished playing the guitar. Opening her eyes and staring right at Sunny, a heavy blush on her face.
“...Uhh, how long did you..watch me?”
“...I watched..it all..did you..have fun?..”
Aubrey turned redder as Sunny smiled rather smugly. The pink haired girl immediately grabbing the remote and shut the tv off, before avoiding his eyes and trying to think of what to do.
“...D-Damn it…whatever, that song was my favorite…anyway..”
She stayed quiet for a few moments, trying to think of some way to change the topic and to get Sunny to stop smiling at her..
“Anyway! Sunny! Why don’t we head out somewhere y’know? You know a good spot or two we can stay at instead of just sitting in here?”
“..Well..We can..um..go to the library..”
The library…Aubrey thought about it a little, it was dull but it was a while since she last read a book with another person. Especially Sunny.
“Well, do they have comic books at least?...I’m not really into novels and stuff like that.”
“...I..I can ask if they do..do you want to go?”
“Sure thing, go ahead and lead the way Sunny. Besides, you can give me a lil’ tour of the city, I’m sure we’ll pass by a ton of spots that you like going to, right?”
“..Yeah..”
Sunny slowly walked towards the apartment door. Getting his wallet and apartment key, Aubrey quickly followed right behind him as the two left the apartment together to make their way to the library.
Along the way, Aubrey constantly asked questions about city life. The pink haired girl was genuinely curious about everything, seeing so many different parts of the city as they walked just sparked her child-like curiosity, asking him about the clothes that people wore. Where she could buy them and so on. The black haired boy doing his best to answer as many questions as possible
It made Sunny smile a little, it reminded him of Aubrey when she was younger. Always so curious and eager to learn or try new things whenever possible.
“..Here we are..”
Sunny spoke as they stood in front of a large building, Aubrey herself was a little shocked by the sheer size of it.
“You’re kidding me..this is a library! It’s so damn huge! It’s almost as big as the grocery in Faraway!”
Aubrey shouted, causing strangers to look at them weirdly. Causing Sunny to glance around out of nervousness, quickly walking towards the entrance and holding it open for Aubrey, gesturing for her to come in, which she quickly did so..almost immediately she was engrossed with the sight of so many books.
“..Holy shit..”
She could only mumble as she took in the sight, bookshelves stocked the entire building. Sunny however had a slight smile on his face, taking in a deep breath..the scent of papers, new and old filled the air. This was his usual go-to place whenever he walked around, it was quiet and had plenty of books on both music and fiction.
He watched as Aubrey slowly walked around, the delinquent trying to wrap her head around the amount of books in one place. She didn’t read much nowadays but she could still appreciate a good book once in a while, but to her this was insane.
“..Um, Aubrey..?”
“Huh? Oh, sorry Sunny, this is just..wow.”
“...I had the same..reaction too..”
“Well, that’s good to know..seriously, I’ve never seen a library this huge.”
She spoke, before turning to see Sunny walking towards one of the bookshelves, following close behind him and seeing what book he got…judging by the title it was one about music. Causing her to sigh.
“..What?..”
“Sunny, c’mon, choose a better one. I’m here with you. I’m not just going to get my own book and quietly read next to you, why don’t we read something together? For old time’s sake…where’s the fiction section?”
Sunny nodded and put the book back, leading her over to where the fiction section was. The two of them looked at the available books, which were full of either fictional novels or comic books, which Aubrey found to be pretty cool. A nice mix of the two things she liked.
“Alright..let’s see what we got here..shit..they even got limited run comics?!”
“...Shh, try not to be so loud…please..”
Aubrey nodded as she looked through the selection they had..it was a decent amount, but it wasn’t much compared to everything else the library might have had, grabbing a random one, surprised to find that it was about Captain Spaceboy..that was unexpected. She had no idea there was novels all about Captain Spaceboy.
“Hey, Sunny..why don’t we give this one a shot?”
“..Sure..Captain Spaceboy?..I didn’t..even know they had that..”
Sunny was just as surprised, the both of them nodding and walking off, trying to find a secluded spot for them to both read, finding a spot near the library corner that was perfect for them both to be able to read the book together, taking their seats and clearing their throats. Sunny opening up the first page.
“You take any of the guy characters and narration, I got the girls..though if I have to, I'll take some of the guys too."
Sunny nodded as she began to narrate the opening of the book. The plot was relatively simple, it was just about Captain Spaceboy going on his usual spree as a space pirate, though this time he had another rival to deal with, another pirate crew going by the Jupiter Starlighters were going against them. Both trying to find a treasure called the “Andromeda Stone.”, either way it was entertaining for both Sunny and Aubrey. And a great nostalgia trip too, it had been ages since they read together.
“Captain Spaceboy, why if it isn’t the little lout who just refuses to know his accursed place!”
“If it isn't an old Moondread, come back to get a taste of my fine raygun? Or has the cosmic stench coming from your ship already overpowered the smell of your singed beard after our last encounter?”
Both of them were having fun acting out the scenes where the characters interacted, sometimes Aubrey had to take one of the male characters and talk to Sunny, both of them doing small faux actions and getting into the groove of it.
Then they reached a particular scene where Captain Spaceboy finds a damsel in distress, a usual recurring plot in his stories.
“Oh fair damsel. Who could trap you in such a place like this? Such a cold empty cell within this meteor is no place for someone like you.”
“Oh hero..my dear hero, who comes from the deep reaches of space..I am simply a poor girl cursed by birth..born under a star that was supposed to bring doom to my people!”
Sunny and Aubrey continued to playfully narrate the story. Sunny taking the role of Spaceboy while Aubrey took the mantle of the female character in this scene, both so engrossed in playing the characters they didn’t quite realize what they were narrating.
“Who could dare to do such a thing, such a beautiful woman like yourself being subjected to such a cruel fate?”
“It was the doing of my father. The star was said to shine above the child who would bring a terrible end to my kingdom!”
“How could they do such a thing..Such a beautiful woman like you, with a face that rivals Madame Venus and eyes that glitter like the shimmering core of a star! Oh dear lady..just meeting you has my heart aflame!”
Without warning, Sunny suddenly stared into Aubrey’s eyes after saying the line. The pink haired girl looked back into his eyes and blushing heavily as they stared closely at each other quietly for a few moments. Both of their hearts beating rapidly after Sunny narrated such a passionate line
Only for Sunny to blink slowly as he realized what he did, blushing heavily and clearing his throat, looking at a wall clock and just realizing how much time had passed since they got here.
“..I..I’ll just..borrow the book..w-we can continue at the apartment..”
“Okay..”
There was a rather awkward silence as both of them sat there blushing, before Sunny got the book and went over to the librarian’s desk, Aubrey herself speed walking out the door of the library. Leaning against the nearby wall with a hand on her chest.
“..Did..why did he look at me as he said that?..”
She mumbled to herself as she smacked the sides of her face gently to try to snap out of it..why did Sunny look right into her eyes as he narrated such a passionate line..it made her heart beat rapidly.
Either way..she slowly calmed herself down as she waited for Sunny. Her mouth opened to try to ask him, but she quickly closed it. Instead walking back to his apartment quietly, both of them immediately retreating to their private spaces, for Sunny, it was his room. For Aubrey, it was the couch
Both of them sat on either their bed or couch, blushing heavily. Sunny trying to think about what he just said and being heavily embarassed..while Aubrey thought of one thing.
“..Does..Does he like me too?..Dammit Sunny..why did you have to say that?...You’re..making me fall for you all over again..”
