Chapter 1: 6 Months

Chapter Text

Hawks walks out the room with a few other heroes, such as Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Present Mic, and more. The second Hawks gets some distance with the room he starts to bolt to leave the building. Semi-jogging since his body hurts a lot to move around. “Yo! Hawks! Where are ya going? I thought you’d agree to come back to UA with the rest of us to help out?” Mic said clearly confused. Hawks slowed down and replied. “I was gonna go with you but that damn meeting was so long, I need to visit someone right now. I'm pretty sure you know who...” Mic paused and looked at the floor, like all the enthusiasm was drained from him. “Oh, I got it. Mind telling him that his friends miss him?” The taller of two asked. Hawks grinned and lifted his hand to show him a thumbs up. He then turned around and continued to quickly leave the building. The grin leaving his face as quickly it came.

Hawks quickly threw on a black with white hood strings with some sunglasses. While walking he kept a face down. Only looking at his phone as walked down the sidewalk. After a while of fast paced walking he made it to his destination. The hospital.

He walked in and headed to the front desk. “Hey, I think you know who I’m here to see.” Hawks says while taking off his hood and glasses for a second to show the woman who he is. The woman nods and pulls a keycard from a drawer under the desk. “He’s still in the same room, but doctors and nurses might tell you to wait outside the room. I believe currently right now his heart beat was really slow so that was really worrying to everyone. That’s as much as I was told…” the woman informed. “Thanks for letting me know.” The ex-hero muttered before heading to the elevator. He scanned and clicked on a button. It was a silent ride. Not long after he made it to the floor. He walked out into the hallway walking on the pristine floor. Each step echoing out, a strange chill, and the smell of antiseptic. While walking he took off the hoodie glasses, deciding he did not need it on at the moment. Then he was in front of the room.

He heard people talking from in the room. Still not done. He thought wondering when he would be allowed in. He sat in the chair near the door. He was walking more than he should be, he needed a break. He looked at him while giving his legs a well needed rest.

“Hawks? I was getting worried, you never come so late? I thought you weren’t gonna come on your daily visit…” a nurse said while exiting the room. A girl who looks to be in her late twenties or early thirties, light blue hair with Amber eyes. To add on a pair of fox ears and a tail with white tips.

“Heh, a long meeting today. I was starting to think I wouldn’t be able to see him… that would have ruined the 6 month streak.” Hawks signed. “Can I-?” Hawks reluctantly said. “Of course.” The fox lady smiled. “Great, ummm. Thanks for everything…” murmured the blond. “No need, I want him to get better soon, and he will. We just need to have hope!” She comforted him. “Yea, alright I’m gonna go see them.” Hawks quickly replied. “Alright” the nurse comments and walks away. He reaches out to the door to open it.

He slips into the room. The smell of antiseptic still lingering in the air around him. The sound of beeping. Soft breathing coming from the bed near the wall where a window is placed. His steps echo throughout the room. He looks down at the person in the bed and takes a deep breath.

“Hey Tsukuyomi! Sorry about coming super late. There was a meeting that I needed to attend and it went for way longer than it was supposed to! I sadly can’t stay for long.” Fumikage Tokoyami laid on bed, dressed in a hospital gown that made him look too small in it. The gown slightly slipped off his shoulders. You could see the bandages from under the gown.

“Mic had let me know that your friends are missing you very much. They can’t wait for you to wake up!” Hawks continued. He stretches his arm out to drag the chair off to the side to Tokoyami’s bedside, where he sits down. “Other than that nothing new! My injuries have been healing just fine and I have been still adjusting to life without my quirk.” He pauses in hope the bird headed teen will respond. He knows he won’t respond.

Hawks let out a shaky breath. He puts his head down on the bed near Tokoyami’s hand. “I’m so sorry… I couldn’t protect you… you kids never should have been in that war… Please don’t leave me, you are the closest thing I have to family… you are like a little brother to me… please wake up Fumikage…” Hawks continues awhile like this until he sees the time.

“I guess I better go… I’ll be back tomorrow.” Hawks says as he reaches for Fumikage’s hand and closes his eyes.

“After all…” as he clenches on to the teen’s hand. “Birds of a feather-“

“always… stick together…”

Hawks quickly opens his eyes to see his beloved intern awake, gripping on Hawks’ hand, smiling, eyes clouded with sadness and relief. He lets out a soft chuckle. “I didn’t know you saw me that way… a little brother?” Tokoyami mumbles, clearly hurting his throat.

“T- Toko?” Hawks whispers before wrapping the kid into a hug. His head on top of the teen’s feathered head. “I thought I was gonna lose you…” Hawks muttered as tear drops started to roll down his cheeks and on to the head of the quiet teen. Fumikage weakly wraps his arms around his mentor, now crying his heart out, laying his head on his chest. Hawks is literally holding Tokoyami up due to his fatigued body.

“You’re finally awake…”
