Chapter Text
He starts to remember.
Part of him wishes he didn't, but the rest of him knows he deserves to. Bits and pieces come back to him, but his siblings, of course, are the most important.
He remembers the sounds of their laughter. How it felt to hold each of them close, the way they had once looked at him with such love in their eyes.
That long before he had lost his memories he had forbidden them from trying to wrest him from Vaati's grasp (lest they come to harm), but also that they had never liked obeying rules.
And so he remembers the feel of their blood, warm and sticky, on his skin. Remembers their cries, their screams, as their beloved big brother betrayed everything he stood for as he slayed those who he swore to protect.
When the weight of his sins shatters him, not even his duties as Zelda's guardian can keep Vaati alive.
"Does it bother you, Sunsun," Vaati goads, even as his former pet's hands tighten further around his throat, "that you'll never completely remember them?"
It did. But at least he would never forget their final moments together.
He hopes they hate him.
He knows they'll forgive him.
