Chapter Text
Atsumu was heartbroken when he had to go overseas for an extended amount of time, couple of months really, for training camp and games. Usually he would jump at any opportunity related to volleyball, but when his twin nieces were born and he held them in the hospital room for the first time, what he wanted more than anything was to stay. But he couldn't, not for long. The day after he got the dreaded news that he had to go overseas. With his profession, Atsumu knows he couldn't see the twins all the time. He knows that, but that doesn't make leaving any easier.
(Sakusa had the unfortunate luck to share a room with him and listen to him complain nonstop. Every thirty minutes, it was "Omi-omi, can ya believe this? Ma nieces aren't havin' Uncle Tsumu time!")
At the very least, you, Osamu's lovely wife, made sure to send him cute pictures of the twins as often as you could (seeing that you and Osamu were taking care of two babies, you were reasonably very busy and very, very tired). With each picture, Atsumu was attacked with cuteness and had to show them to his teammates ("Ain't ma nieces the cutest?"). At the same time, he realized that the twins were growing bigger. It left him with sadness in his heart, knowing that he wasn't there all the time to see them.
But now he was back and he could finally see his nieces!
" 'Tsumu, it's so good to see you!" You greet him with a smile before embracing him. He returns the hug happily.
"Good ta see ya too," the athlete gives a smile of his own.
You open the door wider to allow him to come inside your home. Upon entering, he sees his brother sitting on the couch with his girls, Miko and Mei. He perks up at the sight of them. Finally, he can have some quality time with his nieces! He's practically itching to hold them in his arms again. Osamu rises to his feet and walks towards him. The dark crescents under his eyes were telling of the countless nights he spent up caring for his girls. That, and his disheveled hair.
"Ya look like shit," Atsumu couldn't help but take a jab. He knows his brother won't take it too much to heart.
And like he predicted, Osamu merely rolls his eyes. "Ya wanna try taking care of two babies who don't want ta go to sleep?"
You release a long, dragged out sigh that feels as though came from the depths of your very soul, most likely remembering those long nights. Moving over to stand next to your husband, you rest your head against his shoulder and boop your daughters' noses. They giggle, little fingers grasping onto your bigger finger."The girls always want to be up and playing, especially with 'Samu."
Speaking of the girls, Atsumu glances down at his brother's arms and gasps. "Holy shit they've gotten bigger!" Of course he knew that from the pictures you sent, but seeing them up close really cements the fact that the girls are growing up.
"Watch yer fuckin' language," Osamu snaps back.
"Me?" Atsumu furrows his eyebrows. "Yer the one who said-"
"Both of you, enough."
The two men quit their squabble (and language) immediately. Along with the unimpressed look on your face, you shake your head at their childish antics. Atsumu feels like a child who's been scolded. He doesn't like it when you're mad or disappointed in him, you're one of his closest friends after all.
" 'M sorry," he mumbles out.
"Sorry darlin'," Osamu follows his example.
You accept their apologies, thankfully. All of you were about to head to the couch when the girls begin wiggling in Osamu's arms. He bounces them in an attempt to soothe them, but they wouldn't stop. "What is it, sweetpeas?" He asks gently. His girls don't look at him, instead focusing on what's in front of them.
"They're interested in 'Tsumu," you note.
Atsumu grins. " 'Course they are! They haven't seen their uncle in ages, give 'em ta me," he says, his arms open.
Miko and and Mei were more than happy to go over to their uncle with the way they were making grabby hands at him. The sight makes his grin widen and heart warm. Osamu passes his girls off to him and Atsumu holds them close to his chest. "Hi there angels," he coos.
The girls gaze up at him with their round, innocent eyes. It seems like they were trying to figure something out. Then they tilt their heads simultaneously and Atsumu swears his heart is going to burst from the cuteness. Miko and Mei turn their heads to look at Osamu before reaching out to him. Of course, Osamu doesn't hesitate to take them back into his arms. However, once their eyes land on Atsumu again they babble to him. Osamu arches his eyebrow as he hands his girls over to his twin brother. "What's goin' on with 'em?"
Suddenly, you start laughing. The older Miya twins shift their attention to you, questioning looks on their faces. You answer their unspoken question inbetween chuckles, finding the situation to be amusing.
" 'Tsumu, they think you're their dad."
He blinks. "Really?"
"Your cap hides your hair, so right now you look like 'Samu. The girls can't tell the difference."
Oh right, he's wearing a cap. He's completely forgotten about that. Glancing down, the girls wee staring at him yet again. Atsumu chuckles. "So 'm yer pa? Then who's that?" he asks, nodding his chin towards Osamu. The girls look back and wave their arms towards their actual father. Osamu has a smile on his face as he embraces them.
"Who's that, sweetpeas?"
The girls can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that their father and uncle are identical twins. Atsumu doesn't mind passing the girls back and forth and Osamu is fine with entertaining his girls like this.
"They're just so adorable!"
Osamu snorts. " 'Course they are, have ya seen ma wife?" he says in a matter of fact tone, his eyes softening when he gazes at you. His brother is so whipped for you, though he wouldn't be fazed if Atsumu said that. Osamu would just accept the fact that he is whipped. You two get lost in your own world so often, nothing else matters. Except, Atsumu is here and he just has to take a jab at his brother one way or another.
" 'S a good thing they got her looks instead of yer ugly ass."
"We have the same face, dumbass."
"And now your dad and uncle are in time out."
Huffing, you take Miko and Mei from Atsumu and turn around, but not before sending them a glare over your shoulders. Atsumu's shoulders drop, already missing his nieces.
"Ya just had ta open yer big mouth."
"Shaddup!"
