Liam rolled over with a grunt, sweat beading at his forehead as he coughed. Theo held him close, his worried eyes observing the beta. “I’m here” Theo said softly, although he wasn’t sure if that was soothing to Liam or not.
He was sure Liam would probably be with anyone else right now, wherever they were. Theo was tired, his eyes were fighting top stay open. But he couldn’t sleep, not while Liam was like this…
Not while he was dying in his arms.
“Theo...” Liam whispered, turning his head to look up at the chimera. Still in the same position with Liam laying in between Theo’s legs and the chimera holding him. “I’m here” Theo said offering him a faint smile.
His heart ached at the sight of the usual energetic beta, his pale skin and blood shot eyes. “You’re okay” Theo said, his hand wrapped around Liam’s chest as he pulled him closer. Liam leaned forward and with the help of Theo he was able to sit up.
Immediately coughing Liam’s hand was covered in blood and black ink, “I’m dying” Liam said as he saw the liquids coating his hand. Theo’s eyes widened, “No, we’ll figure it out. You’re not dying on me Liam” he said, the urgency clear in his voice.
Liam let out a half-heartened laugh, “It’s okay” he said, looking to the side before grabbing Theo’s hand. Intertwining their fingers, he looked up at Theo, “Just tell” Liam began but Theo cut him off, “no, you’re not dying” he said.
“I never thought I’d die in your arms…” Liam trailed off, his eyes darting between the rusty ceiling and Theo’s green eyes. Theo had to fight the tears away, I never thought I’d cry for you…
“Liam, stop talking like that” Theo said, using his free hand he pushed Liam’s sweaty hair off his face. Liam’s eyes met his and he felt spaced out, those blue orbs practically captivated him.
“Don’t tell my mum the truth please...” Liam said softly, Theo nodded. “I’ll think of something, stop worrying little wolf” Theo replied making Liam’s eyes light up. “You call me little wolf a lot” he said, followed by a cough.
Theo nodded, “I do” he said. Gently caressing Liam’s face giving the beta a sense of comfort given the horrible circumstances. “I’m glad I brought you back…” Liam whispered, his eyes rolling back as he fought consciousness.
“I’m glad too” Theo replied, before daring to ask the question he was dying to know. “Why did you really bring me back…?” Theo asked, his voice trailing off into a whisper as he spoke. Liam avoided his gaze, “I didn’t like what we did to you..” Liam said.
Turning back to face the chimera, “I knew it was wrong, I also knew that Scott was leaving and I needed to take over. I wanted you with me… in my pack I mean” Liam said with a shrug. “I could have killed you” Theo said.
Liam snorted, “You wouldn’t have, I’ve seen the way you look at me Theo… you wouldn’t hurt me” Liam said with such confidence it even had the chimera confused, “what do you mean?” Theo asked.
Liam coughed again, the blood dripping from his mouth down his chin as he winced in pain. “Fuck, this sucks” Liam said quietly, his hand wiped the blood from his chin as he leaned back against Theo’s chest. “Li, what did you mean?” Theo asked again.
“I know that you like me” Liam said, Theo felt his heart drop at the beta’s words. He knew? Of course, he fucking knew, I wasn’t exactly subtle about it. I can hardly keep my eyes off the little brat, let alone control my chemo signals.
“You knew…” Theo whispered, then why haven’t you initiated anything? You don’t feel the same way about me… “I’m sorry” Theo said feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. Liam shook his head and squeezed Theo’s hand “don’t be sorry” he said.
“I know you don’t feel the same way and that’s okay” Theo replied, feeling like a fool. Of course, he had to go and fall for Scott’s beta. He killed Scott, he manipulated Liam and egged him on. He was a fool to fall for him and an even bigger fool to think Liam would ever feel the same way.
“I think if we have of met differently...” Liam trailed off, Theo felt his heart flutter and twist at the same time. The rich smell of blood infiltrating his nostrils as Liam continued to speak, “maybe we’d be having a different discussion…”
“You mean if we have of met and I didn’t try to kill you all” Theo said wanting to kick himself, he regrated that. It haunted him; it was easily his biggest regret. “I mean if I wasn’t dying” Liam said, what? “Wait, are you saying-” Theo said but Liam cut him off.“I like you too Theo” Liam said. His blue eyes darting down as Theo leaned closer, was this the right time? With a weak and shaky hand Liam pulled Theo closer, their lips meeting for a desperate and overdue kiss, “I just wish it wasn’t going to end like this…” Liam whispered. Theo’s frantic eyes darted around the room, he heard Liam’s heartbeat begin to slow down. “No, no no” Theo said pulling Liam closer to him. Feeling his little wolf’s breathing slow down until it stopped.
His hand caressed Liam’s cheek, a singular tear slid down the beta’s face as his neck turned. His face was pale and stained with blood, “I love you” Theo sobbed, he had never felt loss like this before. He didn’t know how to cope, he didn’t have anyone else.
But he knew if Liam had of lived, they would have been doomed. They weren’t meant to be together, they weren’t destined for their happy ending. This wasn’t airplanes, they were star crossed lovers…
