Chapter Text
Carol was a delight to have on the interceptor! Finally, a level-headed earthing that had common sense and thought things though unlike Hal or Guy. She had become the team "mom" of a sort, especially to Aya. Any questions Aya had about feelings, emotions or maybe just queries about Earth, Carol was there to answer. Other than Earth trivia, Aya loved asking her about her relationship with Hal Jordan. What was he like off duty? How did they meet? How did she know she was in love with him? Aya never told her why she was asking all this, but Carol could tell she liked their moody red crewmate. It was so obvious actually, sometimes she wanted to march straight up to Razer and say "Hey dummy! Aya really likes you and you should spend more time with her!" Mabe she would if neither of them confessed their after a few months. What if she subtly tried telling Aya that confessing her feelings would be a burden off her shoulders? This morning Aya had walked into the kitchen along with Razer. This was perfect, both of them were here! Aya started off with her pleasantries.
"Good morning Carol Ferris, have you gotten plenty of sleep last night?"
"Actually Aya, I went to bed pretty late last night. I was up talking with my girlfriend who is having boy troubles. See, She really likes this guy but is too scared to make a move! So I told her..."
"Girlfriend? I didn't know you had a girlfriend as well as a boyfriend? Jordan never mentioned her, does he get along with her?" Razer suddenly interrupted.
Carol didn't know if it was because he caught on to what she was trying to do or if he was genuinely asking. Then again, Razer and Aya were aliens, why would they know the difference between "girlfriend" and a "girl friend"?
"Oh! I don't mean girlfriend like we're dating! Um, Earthing women, at least where I'm from, tend to refer to their female friends as girlfriends even if they're not romantically together. Men don't refer to female friends as girlfriends unless they're dating, otherwise it can be confusing, though now that I think about it, it can get confusing for girls too."
"I see, so it's different if you're both the same gender." Razer concluded.
"Well, most of the time! But..."
Before she could get another word out, Aya's eyes glowed a bright blue, indicating that she found something. "Attention lanterns! I have found another planet with a safe food source for human consumption, my records show that we are low on supplies, shall we land and restock?"
The hiss of the doors opened to reveal Hal and Kilowog, rushing in after hearing the word "food". Both of them having a big smile on their faces.
"Haha, Yes! Finally! I was so tired of those Earth rations the guardians stocked here, like seriously, the bland same thing every day? Yuck!"
"I agree Jordan!" Kilowog boomed. "I never want to see or smell cheese again!"
Would you stop with the cheese thing? It's not as bad as you're making it out to be! Anyways, Aya, when do we land? I'm ready to stretch my legs and explore some new cultures!"
Looks like Carol would have to postpone her gossip/romance talk for a later time. Not that she was doing that good of a job anyway.
The locals on the planet we're friendly at least, glad to welcome and serve the heroic Green Lanterns. Not did the crew get many offerings of food, Hal found a lively bar to meet more of the locals. The drinks there gave Carol the same buzz as an alcoholic drink back on earth would. She sat between Aya and Hal while explaining to Aya what a "buzz" felt like.
"Would you lovely ladies like anything else to drink today?" The bartender asked. Aya saw this a an opportunity to use her newfound knowledge of Earth terms.
"I do not require any refreshments, however, my girlfriend, Carol would like another one of your toffa ales."
Carol smiled, Aya was so adorable. She loved to copy other's behaviors and put them to use. Unfortunately, that meant Hal's reckless actions as well.
"Of course!" The bartender replied, "One toffa ale coming right up!" He turned towards the boys. "What about you three gentlemen? Need a refill?" Razer, wanting to match Aya, replied before Hal could.
"We're cutting the Bolovaxian off." He gestured towards a passed out drunk Kilowog. "But my boyfriend here would like another refill of one of your Dutara root beers."
Hal spit out the last of his previous drink while Carol laughed.
She loved this team.
