Chapter Text
Merlin took a deep breath, realizing that his secret was no longer hidden. He couldn't deny it any longer, not to Arthur, not to himself. With a heavy heart, he nodded slowly, confirming Arthur's suspicions.
"No, Arthur, I'm not just a regular servant," Merlin finally admitted, his voice filled with a mix of fear and vulnerability. "I have magic."
Arthur's eyes widened in surprise, his initial shock quickly turning into a mixture of confusion and disbelief. "Magic? You mean...you can perform sorcery?" he asked, his voice laced with both curiosity and caution.
Merlin nodded again, his gaze fixed on the ground. "Yes, I have the gift of magic," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "I've been using it to protect Camelot, to protect you, even though it's forbidden."
Arthur's expression softened, his eyes filled with a mixture of understanding and compassion. "Merlin, why didn't you tell me before?" he asked, his voice gentle. "I've always trusted you, and I would have understood."
Merlin looked up, meeting Arthur's gaze. "I was afraid, Arthur," he admitted, his voice trembling slightly. "Afraid of how you would react, afraid of losing your trust, your friendship."
Arthur sighed, stepping closer to Merlin and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Merlin, you've been by my side through thick and thin," he said sincerely. "You've saved my life countless times, and I trust you with mine. Your magic doesn't change that."
Merlin's eyes welled up with tears, overwhelmed by Arthur's acceptance and support. "Thank you, Arthur," he whispered, his voice filled with gratitude. "I can't express how much this means to me."
Arthur gave him a small smile, squeezing his shoulder gently. "You don't have to, Merlin," he said. "Just promise me that you'll always use your magic for good, to protect Camelot and its people."
Merlin nodded, a sense of relief washing over him. "I promise, Arthur," he vowed, his voice filled with determination. "I will always use my magic to protect Camelot and those I care about."
With that, the two friends stood there in the moonlit night, their bond stronger than ever. The weight of Merlin's secret had been lifted, replaced by a newfound understanding and acceptance. From that moment on, they would face the unknown together, united in their shared destiny.
